I hope it has an open world, crafting, and RPG mechanics now. That's what I've always felt Silent Hill needed.

It would be nice to have a classic cam option, since there’s a lot of nostalgia here, but not gonna fuss if there isn’t one. The remake camera makes sense here like with the RE Remakes because it helps tie the cinematics and gameplay together better.

Same here. I stopped caring about camera angles the moment over the shoulder got started. If you all want classic camera angles that badly then either to keep playing the old games you already own, or Start playing all of the indie survival horror games that uses them. Stop automatically expecting and assuming larger gaming companies or AAA Companies to use them as if were the old days again.

I know that it's sarcasm, but that's what Evil Within 2 does, minus the RPG mechanics and having a much smaller semi-open world. With lots of detail, good content, and rewarding side quests that not only give you bonuses for taking bigger risk, but also has extra story details, expand lore, and gives out extra character moments or development.

You're saying that, but I'd love a Silent Hill that plays a bit like Deadly Premonition, if it had actual production values. Like, you know, one set in Silent Hill as regular people see it, a sleepy lakeside town that you can explore freely, and only occasionally slips into its spooky alternate versions.

I do know for certain the SH2 Remake has no crafting and more or less plays like the og where you explore the town. The game is still linear, but open ended and certain things are changed around to make the exploration engaging and unique according to people who have played the game or are finishing up for their review.

Yeah, I know, not this one in particular, just, like, a hypothetical future Silent Hill game.

Only had to play that twice. Once if I used a guide. Sh2 is SIX playthroughs. Six!
TLOUS2 was 28 hours of torture and misery porn. SH2 can be depressing, but it at least comes from the heart. I actually care about the characters and story. You should already know Silent Hill 2 is about those multiple endings. I do not know what you were expecting.

I have never played an SH game.

Really? I learned something new about you today. You do whatever you like, but getting the 6 endings isn't too difficult. I will admit some of them are obtuse or aren't obvious on how you're supposed to get them in SH2. I still recommend a guide, if you ever decide to Platinum or change your mind.

I've played and beaten SH1-SH3. SH4 I played at a friend's once, and didn't like it. The early YouTube review scene was not helping matters either.

Said by you, who has a problem with a woman being a main protag to a sequel of a samurai/ronin/ninja open world game, where you didn't have much investment in the first game to begin with. Then got your panties in a bunch, because the director of the sequel dare to be a gay man, and the voice actor of the new protag, Atsu, having left wing politics. Even though most voice actors working in this industry (or in the anime and animation) have left wing politics. Someone is projecting more than they realize, and has 0 fucking room to talk.

We were talking about game criticism. The developers of Ghosts of Yotei want to talk about politics. You're deflecting. I didn't criticize the director because he's gay, I criticized him for being so outspoken politically on his gaming-related social media. Representing the company. Well, it's what Sony wants, which makes them look bad too. Stop trying to educate and convert me, stop virtue-signalling. You're an entertainment company. The voice actress is even worse than I thought. On top of publicly supporting the genocide and status quo-protecting tool of the establishment and military industrial complex, the ghoulish fucking Harris and her partner in child/women slaughter Walz with some other voice actors in a gaming-related podcast thing, she talked more cringe identity bullshit and called for the abolishment of the police. She's crazy. I left that discussion because I read the room and saw no good would come from continuing.

I don't have a problem with a woman protagonist. I have a problem with the modern "strong woman" protagonist. With the skinny Furiosa who has no problem lifting a 300 pound motorcycle and can't even scream or react at all as her arm is shredded, because that would imply weakness (unlike the one played by Theron nine years before, who cried out when pierced), who goes undetected as a girl and then a young woman living with men for years. With the Prey protagonist who can successfully wrestle down the young men of her tribe, fight off the slavers and has an easier time physically handling the predator than Arnold Schwarzenegger, after getting herself into the mess by wanting to be treated like one of the boys (since the predator only hunts warriors) and seeking the creature out herself (unlike the original cast of characters who tried to get away from it). These women are nearly always so unsatisfying as characters.

I'll make a presumption about you too. You simply don't like these YouTubers because they don't accept the slop that makes up the majority of modern games. I don't either.

You say I'm miserable, that I don't enjoy anything, but what is there to be happy about in an industry that's become so bloated that studios would rather make "modernized" (meaning standardized) remakes than new games and have to get backing from DEI groups like BlackRock, who with their limitless money don't care how many projects sell worse or fail thanks to their divisive poison so long as they change culture and the brains of consumers? Budgets so obscene that every other game has to be some version of The Last of Us, force an open world or handle like Dark Souls, to limit the great risk. Games that now take up to eight years to make, leaving the players with so little to play in between (and most of it so samey anyway). Look at Sony...

Spider-Man 2 - 315 million dollars
Last of Us 2 - 220 million dollars
Horizon: Forbidden West - 212 million
God of War: Ragnarok - 200 million
Concord - At least 200 million

Clowns!

Just like you told me Gaming Brit loves DMC5, you also told me that the RE4 purist criticized the respectable, fun Streets 4 in a kind of "by the way" statement, like that's supposed to make me dislike the guy. Can't remember his name. Will sub when I find the video again.

Whatever else you have to say @Ezekiel; I don't give a shit, not worth my time, I already said this conversation is over, and screw off. I'll hear nothing else otherwise.

Here are other reviews for those interested.

Skill Up has a long video that is 2 hours long.

Video should start at 6:26. Shows the old cinematic cam and the new over-the-shoulder, side by side. What do you think? The only criticism that I have with Until Dawn's original cam is that forward on the stick is no longer forward when entering a new shot.

The new OTS cam only makes more sense in RE2 and 3 because the combat is built for it. How does it tie the cinematics and gameplay together better? I don't know what that means. Ironically, I call those old cameras cinematic because they are scripted by the creators rather than controlled by the player.

Lol, if they didn't have it labeled as too which was the remake you would barely be able to tell, other than the guy in the thumbnail looks about 10 years older. The remake apparently needs to be much brighter so that you can see all that additional detail they've added. And you are 100% correct. For a game that wants to be a movie the cinematic cam is definitely the way to go. Doesn't stop the game from kind of sucking because all the characters are unlikeable doofuses, as is the Supermassive way, but it looks better anyway.

No idea why this game needed a remake in the first place, but neither camera works all that well here IMO. I only played the original but faintly recall it as being disorienting whenever entering/leaving a new screen (even worse was the follow-up game The Quarry) and the other is too close, obscuring the surroundings too much. SH2R looks like it has a good distance. James no longer looks like a disoriented mental patient wandering in circles off in the distant fog, but also the camera doesn’t appear to be breathing down his neck. It gives him room to whack away at enemies while still giving the player a decent level of spatial awareness, although most places in the game are somewhat claustrophobic anyways.

The camera is the bridge between player and character, so in these atmospheric, cinematic feeling games with a big focus on what that character is experiencing it makes sense to frame them in a way where the player feels like they’re more or less shadowing them. Some games do it better than others, but IMO it feels more appropriate here. Some games also give more freedom for the player to control camera distance. RDR2 for example has like three or four settings, with one of them being first person. This is important given how varied the gameplay aspects can be, and yet it still manages to retain the cinematic feel during missions.

As an aside that reminds me, I wonder why don’t more games have a crouch run for stealth. It makes sense in certain situations.

Evil Within 2 has a crouch run for stealth, but it has to be upgraded in the stealth section of the skill tree to be unlocked. You can unlock it even further to crouch into running stealth kill.
