There had been Russian anticipation of a possible Kursk incursion and attack on Sudzha, months in advance.

This is embarrassing in different ways for both Russia and Ukraine. For Ukraine, it shows their informational security may not have been as tight as they thought. For Russia, it shows that they were unable/unwilling to defend their own border even with months of notice.

Not necessarily.

To an extent, some of this may represent standard military planning: assess potential risks and plan for what the enemy may do and how they do it. Undoubtedly similar reports exist for sectors which were never attacked. And a commander could reasonably predict a lot of this sort of thing, whilst at the same time not necessarily be able to do much about it with the resources on hand.

The June report of a specific attack is possibly a concern for Ukrainian intelligence. However, we also don't know the bigger picture. Imagine that Ukraine may have deliberately let Russia "find" a dozen attack plans. Russia then has to decide whether to divert resources from their Donbas Offensive to reinforce sectors, or to ignore the threats. In the former case, it relieves pressure on Ukraine's eastern frontline, in the latter, Ukraine gets to exploit the vulnerability.

I don't expect it will push the needle much. They don't have modern war experience. Just more bodies to throw in the meat grinder
And it's not like they're staying....

I wonder what went through those soldiers' heads when they heard they were picked to go fight in a war on the other side of the world for a foreign nation.

Living in an isolated county all your life only to suddenly get pushed out like that, to fight for a country and a cause that isn't yours.

Perhaps one way for North Korean troops to get modern war experience, in the same way that fighting in Spain was pre WW2.

Moldova voted yesterday to join the EU, 50.46% to 49.54%. Moldova has worked to diversify its energy supply away from Russian fossil fuels since the invasion of Ukraine, and the referendum saw record foreign interference from Russia, including an illegal vote-buying campaign targeting over 100,000 people.

Moldova is also, of course, another country that has a strip of its territory occupied by Russian-proxy forces (Transnistria). It has also been repeatedly threatened by Russia in the last few years.

There was also a Presidential election, in which the incumbent centre-right party won a plurality (but not a majority) over the centre-left party. But both leading parties are pro-European.

So the North Korean artillery the Russians are receiving is shit. Who could have predicted that 80 year old artillery shells wouldn't work?

For those who don't speak Russian, a translation:

This is how we prepare the shells. We have to scrub off the rust, clean them, then store them again. This is the kind of shit the Koreans are sending us, only 1 in 5 rounds even fires.
Curious to know if North Korea is just sending their worst equipment to Russia and keeping the better stuff for themselves, or if this is the condition of their equipment overall.

shoddy military equipment is a possible side effect of not doing wars all the time

Reading through that, a lot of it also applies to other emergencies, so there's that. But yeah, it's something a lot of people should be thinking about.

As well they should, US/UK seem determined to make NATO countries a target.
not really. It’s all on Russia as it always is. No one forced them to start a genocidal war, and no one forces them to escalate against countries that object to this war.

But yes Finland should prepare since terrorizing it’s neighbors is just what Russia does.

Also I didn’t hear this prattle about Russia “making itself a target” when it went around murdering Dutch and British citizens.

Biden has reportedly given permission for Atacms missiles (range of 190miles) to be used against targets in Kursk. With two months left on his Presidency. I suppose, an effort to discourage ending Ukraine aid.

Of course, Russia has been threatening Sweden with military attack long before it joined NATO.

Military preparedness is essential to survive as a sovereign country anywhere near modern Russia, because it frequently invades its neighbours, seizes territory, or sponsors insurgencies. These were the reasons for Finland and Sweden to seek membership in the first place, because it's non-NATO members that Russia feels confident in carving up.
