God, I'm still getting Times Radio video recommendations from three days ago in my feed with titles like 'Trump has already lost, and this is what cost him'. It's so fucking embarressing how many of these channels were counting their chickens.

I think the "missing votes" thing is actually easy to explain. So Biden sucks, but then the unexpected happens: he drops out for a newer, younger, more energetic candidate. Couch fucker memes are flying. Walz gets brought in. "Wow, has anybody body noticed these guys are fucking weird? These assholes are a threat to our democracy in an intensely lame way" Holy shit, Dems with a spine! Dems willing to drop the "they go low, we go high" bullshit and start throwing punches. And the GOP is *melting* over being call lame and weird. They can't stand it. Voter registration soars. Optimism is in the air

And then they muzzle Walz. Messaging turns to "the GOP is a serious threat to the existence of the nation, by the way bipartisanship is super important, I'm gonna have republicans in my cabinet and by the way here's my new best friend Liz Cheney. And no, I won't do anything different than Biden, no matter how many more bombs we send to a guy who wants him to lose"

And all that enthusiasm just fucking dies. Millions upon millions of new voter registrations and zero of them were in the mythical "center undecided" column

Makes you wonder if it's intentional, you know? Same happened in 2016. If they try to lift up people's spirit and instill some hope in them that normalcy will prevail only to make it all the more demoralizing when they pull the rug out under you.

It's hard not to see all of this as an attack on the collective mental well-being of people.

It's just clicks.

Even the left leaning channels who spent months warning people of Project 2025 are now mining what clicks they can from this descent into fascism. Can't blame 'm too much, I guess. Get what you can while you can, right? Seems like that'll be the new motto for the Earth under fascism.

So this mysterious 15 million missing voters Democrats are blaming right now...
Just haven't been counted yet. The full results aren't in for a while yet.

Lost of states ae still counting. The deficit from last election is already down to 12.5 million. California in specific has approximately 7.2 million left to go. The ways they've allowed voting to be done mean they have to wait for ballots to get in until Friday after the election and then cross compare mail-ins to provisionals cast the day of, it takes a while to do that for like 20 million people.

Let's pretend you didnt

Trump is here. It doesn't matter what you voted. This is what you got. You're national representative

You should be happy. It's what you advocated for
This was a weird way for you to tell me you lied about me saying Trump was the lesser evil

And now that lesser evil will continue unimpeded under an even greater evil. Enjoy watching the critical voices for the Palestinian genocide evaporate now that they're scrambling to look after their own safety.
Maybe if Harris didn't try to convince everyone that The Lesser Evil included a fucking Genocide, she'd be the next president of The United States

Take it up with your shitty candidate. There's a reason she got absolutely curb stomped by Trump and it's not because a few hundred thousand of us voted third party...

This is just an example using games of course, the same will also apply anything to else imported, or manufactured using imported resources. Cuz that's how import tariffs work, as has already been said in this thread. But even if they did somehow did work as a tax paid by another country, anyone actually think they're just gonna sit there and eat that cost? No, they'd pass it on to the consumer i.e. you and me.

But the woke will be gone, so it'll all be worth it, right? Assuming the Project 2025 fundies don't convince Trump to just ban games altogether.

Can we give it a rest now? Yes, I believe it would have been better for the US/world if more people voted for Harris, but it's a bit late arguing that now. Over and done with, maybe in 4 years time there's another election where it matters, maybe not. Can drop it for the moment.

I don't think she would. The numbers would be a little higher, but marginally so. The minuscule numbers attracted by the Greens show that those who rejected the Dems, by and large, weren't motivated by principle on Gaza or ecology or left-wing ideals.

Obviously, they'd still be the right principles to embrace, because they're the moral and just things to do; Dems should absolutely pursue them, make the case they were too chickenshit or compromised to make before. But I have a very hard time believing the American electorate would give a shit. They've just overwhelmingly rewarded hate & despair mode is active.

Do you really think that would've been the tipping point?
I don't think she would. It wouldn't have changed it. The minuscule numbers attracted by the Greens show that those who rejected the Dems, by and large, weren't motivated by principle on Gaza or ecology or left-wing ideals.

Throwing you both in here since it's the same answer

100% I do think Genocide was a tipping point

We'll never actually know but Trump didn't gain votes, Harris lost a ton of votes. She fucked up something fierce SOMEWHERE and telling voters that if Democrats don't get to do a little genocide because The Other Guy will do a genocide instead feels like the kind of thing that would be frowned upon by many voters (especially given how fucking smug Kamala "I'm Speaking" Harris was about it).

Many mistakes were made by Democrats in this process so I can't objectively say for certain that this issue alone would have saved them but personally, yes, I think more Americans have a conscious than Democrats expected.

The plural of anecdote is not data, but there did seem to be a lot of people angry at Israel and the US, in the US and elsewhere.

I think it made a significant difference in Michigan. The demographic info seems to support that, with a corresponding increase for the Greens, and a large Muslim population.

Elsewhere, I'm seeing it much less. A conscience could lead someone to put a principled vote towards a different candidate, as I said before. A conscience isn't what convinced people to sit on their ass at home. Apathy towards hate did.

For 2024 there's no use in playing the blame game but it sure as hell will help in 2028 if The Democrats don't figure out that getting more right wing is when they get their teeth kicked in. They couldn't wait even a week before they started lashing out and blaming everything and everyone on their loss EXCEPT for their own campaign and sliding right.

If this is going to continue to be the lesson they get from their teeth getting kicked in, short of another Covid showing up and bailing Democrats out like it did for 2020, we're gonna be getting Republicans in office until they either implode for good or they figure their own shit out.

Trump is currently less than 1 million votes under his 2020 total with about 10 million more votes to count. Chances are good he beats his 2020 total by like 4 million.

Oh, the Democrat leadership should be figuring out who is to blame, but on this forum, where none of us have any real power, blaming each other isn't productive.

Last time I looked, things were going terribly economically for Milei. Has it gotten any better
Yes and no.

When Milei was elected we were at 250% of (inter)annual inflation and a monthly 20-25%. Today it's closer to 100% annual, and last month we had 3.5%, lowest in 3 years.

This is a direct result of axing public spending by a third, removing tons of state subsidies and stopping the rampant emission of currency. Since 1960 Argentina has operated at a fiscal deficit but for six years, and for the first time in a while the country finally has a fiscal surplus.

This was largely achieved by a brutal devaluation of the peso though, as well as the removal of subsidies and price regulations, which means public consumption has plummeted and poverty has shot the hell up (from 40% to 52% since Milei was elected).

Meanwhile the most annoying taxes remain untouched. Buying dollars remains the best way to actually save your money, and that's still something only a few are allowed and only so many per month. There's still a 60% overcharge whether you buy a dollar at your bank or spend it online.

So it's hard to gauge. On paper the country is supposedly economically on the up and up, but climbing out of 250% of inflation right now doesn't feel much different than living with it. The consensus is that it'll take time and it was always going to take time.

Kamala Harris had way more extensive policy written out than the Trump campaign did, and she talked about policy in interviews way more than Trump did. No one cared or saw it.

Trump's crazy raving gets clicks, Kamala's policy discussions don't. Trump sitting in a dump truck or pretending to work at a McDonalds gets thousands of memes, but there's nothing fun about discussing actual policy so people don't see it.

Trump won because talking about Trump was fun for people, it became a hobby, a part of people's personalities. Liking or hating Trump is a pass time for people. In 2 years people will barely remember that Harris existed, in the same way that I bet most Americans can't name the candidates who lost against Obama and Bush.

Whether you like him or not Trump is an American icon, and you can't topple an icon in 3 months. That's why he won.
The problem is she couldn’t even get through an Oprah interview without her looking like wanted to crawl under a table to hide from it all (and she was her biggest advocate!), or a basic CBS interview without it being edited to make her sound better, which is why there’s no way in hell she was going to do 3 hour unedited podcasts with Rogan like both Trump and Vance did. She can’t have a normal conversation to save her life without having it take place in a controlled environment or mentioning how evil Trump is every other sentence, and getting every rich and famous person to back her up on it.

That’s what most people saw through and why she lost.
