Instead of research deforestation, perhaps can we spend that money on the people

Research can come later
Actually no, research cannot come later. Waiting until conflict has abated would be too late for countless habitats, and the value/quality of in-process research is incomparable.

Besides which, long term sustainability of human life in the area-- not to mention shorter-term livelihoods-- are absolutely reliant on that plant life.

And finally: there is no dichotomy between saving people and researching deforestation. There are more than enough resources for both and both are absolutely essential.

Not to mention, waiting until something more important that isn't going to happen means the second thing doesn't happen either.

It's why people say their country shouldn't help refugees until it helps the poor people in their own country, while not helping the poor people in their own country. Not saying that's what Trunkage meant, but the end result of such thinking ends up the same.

The sickness of patriotism, state-sponsored pride in hatred, greed and destruction. Knighted cowardice adorned with fervent rancid hypocrisy.

Maybe they should stick to the suicidal vibe seeing as the anti-war stance ain't holding up to basic scrutiny.

Can say it now because his friends will be out of power in six weeks, the giant douche. Before, his language was always wishy-washy, "right to defend itself" meaning, let them do whatever they want.

Yeah, if anyone ever wants EXHIBIT A for why I say Fuck the Democrats, Bernie is the poster child

Dude gets rat fucked to death in the primary and goes right back to being the DNC lapdog, towing the line and funneling people back to The Democrats and only gets real brave to step out of line when there's no risk or chance to influence anything.

Tippy #FeltTheBern and will never support that disgrace of a party ever again

Well, he also introduced votes to cut military aid to Israel in February. It's not as if he just started post-election. It just didn't receive as much coverage.

Bernie is probably the closest thing to a good Democrat but that's like saying that crabs is the closest thing to a good STD

He doesn't make a stink or step out of line. He'll introduce things, which is commendable (and more than someone like AOC does) but has no desire to make any kind of a push for it or make Democrats even sweat the slightest as they know that when it comes time to campaign, Grandpa Bernie will be there ready and willing to whip all dozens of fans he still has somehow to get out there and vote for Genocide Joe and Holocaust Harris.

He's allowed to baby step walk the walk but when the chips are down and it's time to actually try to exert some pressure or considerations or anything, he folds like every other Democrat. Now that the election is over is when he goes on his press tours and is putting out videos about how The Democrats have abandoned the left and that's the problem, something he should have been saying...this entire time but at the very least these last six months or so.

Good

It's likely not going to matter cause The US is going to protect him but at least it is on record now. There are plenty of US Leaders who should be next on this list but baby steps...

Didn't they do this last year to a resounding fuck all result because they'd need to be handed over to the ICC by their own government and neither are going to do that? Like ever?

I didn't think an actual warrant was done but you're not wrong, this likely isn't going to matter from a practical standpoint. There are many countries that have stated though that they will hand him over if he goes there (like Canada, Spain, France, and a number of other countries). It probably still wouldn't matter but much of the world seems to finally be turning against Israel.

I mean, he's also been speaking out about Israel's crimes since 2016. That includes in interviews and media appearances as well as Congress (though he did equivocate a bit more earlier on).

What pressure do you think he could have brought to bear that he didn't? Is this just about him supporting the Dems over the Republicans during the election?

Bernie Sanders has repeatedly said "Israel has a right to defend itself". It has no such right.

Hasn’t Bernie been outspoken about the crimes against humanity in Gaza for like, most of the year though? It seems every time I read something it was him criticizing Israel, not the other way around.

For Bernie, my dislike of him is basically how 2016 went down. The DNC absolutely rallied around to make sure he went down (eventually elevating the person who would lose to Trump and thereby at the very least indirectly gave us this shitshow of a decade). If anyone ever needed any proof that The Democrats would rather lose elections than they would disrupt Capitalism and their precious donors, it was 2016.

How did Bernie respond?

Put his hat in his hand, bowed down, and said "Sorry sir, it'll never happen again". He became Hillary's #1 soldier in rallies (and continues to do the same thing with people like Biden and Harris, who are quite literally funding the genocide that he claims he is so very much against). Obama sold everyone on HoPe AnD cHaNgE and then sold us all out but Bernie didn't even get that far before he sold us all out.

One could argue "Well that's politics baabaaaay!!!!" and I would just say to that...yes...that's the problem

(Also as Seanchaidh stated, Bernie is also still all over giving Israel's balls a tickling when he does talk about how we need to stop their genocide with the horseshit of "Israel has the right to defend itself!!!" shit)

Bernie's stance on Israel tbf is better than about 99% of the politicians so I do give him credit for that but the dude is dead to me in terms of who I would even consider supporting in the two big parties (which admittedly likely makes me far harsher on him than he probably deserves given he's one of the few politicians with the spine to somewhat stand up to Israel).

What the fuck? Why doesn't Israel have a right to defend itself?

The manner in which and with whoms support are debatable, sure, but to flatout say they have no right to self defense...

The state was founded on terrorism and ethnic cleansing, crimes which have only been aggravated by their further actions. They have a right to submit themselves to judgment.

Readers added context they think people might want to know:
Seanchaidh is a communist who does not believe any state has the right to defend itself or even exist, and affords that privilege selectively to America's enemies.
