There's a major controversy in PC gaming right now with the upcoming release of Nvidia's 5000 series graphics cards that they are so reliant on DLSS that what they're selling you isn't hardware it's AI generated fake frames.

To me the problem isn't so much "fake frames" but the fact that they're artificially limiting the capability of the 4000 series cards to make them look significantly worse than the 5000 series by locking dlss 4 to 5000 series cards.

The reality is that the 5000 series cards are not significantly enough better than the 4000 series to be considered a new generation of cards. Their performance is similar to when Ti cards come out in the middle of a generation with a performance boost to the same architecture. The main performance boost here is software enabled, and this same software could and SHOULD be available on the 4000 series cards, but isn't because very few people would bother with this generation of cards if they were being compared to the 4000 series straight up.
Mayhaps aside from just being stupid and greedy, they were banking on the not insignificant amount of people who didn’t bother upgrading from the 30 series or, God help them, the 20 series cards. Because against those, the uplift is probably more noticeable.

Idk about that, if I had a 3000 series card I wouldn't upgrade to the 5000 series. The 4000 series wasn't much of an uplift from the 3000, and the 5000 isn't much of an uplift from the 4000 (not counting the new version of DLSS). I predict that the 3000 series cards are going to be sticking around for a while, especially the 3080 and 3090, like the people still running 1080s 4 generations later. The 3090 still has significantly more vram than even the 5080.

Just catching up on some reviews and responses to Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 reminds me of some of the positive reception of Dragon's Dogma 2 and how basically it seems like some folks are defending jank, and when a game wipes hours of play time or wacky things happen because of bugs or incomplete design but it's actually good because that's how games were on the PS2 or whatever.

So my hot take it: jank is bad, polish is good, and it's actually ok for games that come out today to feel and play well, have clear objectives for the player, actually work, save your progress, and feel like it's recent.

I usually don't mind jenk as long as it's not too in the way nor messes with the save file. But yeah, this has always been a problem with certain gamers, or those in the youtube space reviewing older games since the mid 2000s. Even the ones that defend is usually have no other option but to concede or say just wait for the patch update, because not everybody will be playing this until it's fully completed. It's why I refuse to get Slitherhead, Even though it feels like a "janky PS2 game". Wanted: Dead sucked because it was janky and difficult for a lot of the wrong reasons. Some people praise it for being a 7th generation throwback game, but that honor deserves better and goes to Evil West. The game that is popular and has almost no jank at all.

Call of Duty and Assassins Creed games should be treated like sports games by video game criticism: ignored.
Everybody knows what they are. The folks who are going to play them are going to play them, and everybody else will not.

If you are into video games and follow the discussions and that is your only video game consumption than you might not even know that Madden and MLB the Show and NBA2K and the-franchise-formely-known as FIFA even exist, yet they're maybe the biggest non-mobile games (at least in the US)?

They are not reviewed by games critics because what would be the point? I'm glad I don't come across them because I don't care.
Well, same should be true for Call of Duty and AssCreed and I'm sure y'all can think of other franchises like this, where we all already know exactly what the review cycle will be like.

"Oh look another AssCreed, same old Ubisoft lol Ubisoft sucks, something something woke, handholding dumb game."

Yeah, we know... and some folks like it.

I never touch CoD and I knew what all the reviews were before the latest one came out. I guess it was a bit more positive because of the low expectations going in for the single story campaign but that's it.

It just seems silly to critically analyze these games at this point.

I am going to go with no, even though I am completely apathetic to both of these franchises. People have the right to review these games and be treated as such. Some are going to like them. Some are going to hate them. And some are going to think they're ok or average.

something something woke
Now those fools in particular don't count as reviewers. They're raging grifters/fake fans and they can be happily ignored. I can agree on that.

Not really. Especially when depending on the installment, they either barely trying, not trying at all, or just throwing a bunch of weird ideas that should have been for a completely different game not under the franchise name. The reviewers who point out the problems and bullshit honestly are always needed or appreciated. There also YMMV, but I can tell what reviewer is being honest or not, or when they find something good about the games or enjoy them.

I finally listened to some impressions and two channels I normally like were like this:
InsideGames- one dude only like playing as the big samurai warrior dude, not the ninja chick
SkillUp- bored with the samurai dude, interested in the ninja chick

In a game where you mostly get to choose which to play as. And while both acknowledging that they could choose, they were disappointed that the one they didn't choose wasn't fun.
Which is like... *sigh*... ok, then... wtf do you want at this point? And I know what they want- they want to not have to cover AssCreed games 'cause they're bored by them. And I say- fair enough! Don't cover them!

They are different people with different opinions. Not much you can do to change their minds already. IG Is somewhat known to have a flippant opinion, even though I don't know him that much. SU I actually used to dislike up until the mid 2010s.

If it makes you feel any better, ACG and Easy Allies like playing as both of the characters. Though one of the guys from Easy finds the stealth option pointless and takes too long, when Yasuke can clear rooms much faster. It's pretty clear that this game is gonna be love or hate it territory when it finally releases and review comes out.

That is definitely true, but they are clearly slaves to their audience and echo chambers. The honestly at least with SU, most of f his fans wouldn't be upset if he stopped covering AC. The best thing you can do is just ignore them or not even bother with their review.

Max Dood and YoVideoGames have a admitted that they don't like AC and that they would never cover the games. Multiple times for over a decade. They both only played them the one or two times and that was it. Both prefer Ghost of Tsushima. The entire crew prefers that game over AC. None of them received backlash over their opinions and not bothering to cover the games.

Yeah that's pretty much gonna be me (I did listen to that review). It has already been the case with since they started this style of "not-an-RPG" with Origins, where you can stealth or mass murder but combat is so easy that the more efficient approach is usually the latter (except sometimes in Odessey the stupie mercenary system would collapse and ruin everything with an army of enemies lol), so this is par for the course.
Except the wrinkle of the two characters would likely mean that instead of the pattern of:
1- Attempt stealth
2- fail
3- fight everyone

we will have
1- Attempt stealth with ninja chick
2- fail
3- Repeat 1 & 2
4- give up, switch to samurai dude, kill everyone

So maybe that will just make things more annoying. Still I look forward to the variety because Valhalla's stealth was a joke (and yes I know old-school AC fans complain that stealth is a joke in every game, but Valhalla really made that true. I mean the stealth mechanic was basically putting on a hood and getting noticed anyway lol).

It also helps me that I decided on this game a long time ago- play it after a bunch of patches.

I think given how commercially successful that last few AC games were (except for Mirage, which kind of doesn't count), it's just the reality that there is actually a big market for these big open world "checklist handhold points on a map" games and this is... well, just another one.

Nothing wrong with that.

Max Dood calls out how stupid the console wars are. Quick to the point: he does not yell nor put on angry face. Enjoy the consoles and games you do enjoy, but don't be an obnoxious asshole about it. Nor make being a console owner of whatever corporation, your defining personality. This applies to PC gaming as well. No console is perfect and nor is PC for that matter either. Especially if you don't know if the the high end power game will work or not on PC, despite having top of the line hardware. It's okay to criticize the thing you love, because you want to see these consoles do better.

People like Max and me care about the games and whats on offer. If I am interested in the game or games, then I am interested in the console. Though I admit, that I am sick of MS's shit personally, and just sticking with PlayStation 5, PC (mainly for smaller games), and Switch (Switch 2 later down the line), because they give me the games I want. Ignore the people who throw accusations and call you an "Xbot, Nintendard, Sony Soy Boy, PC Whore," or whatever. These are people who don't have a personality and just want to be angry about something. Hating others, because no one else is miserable like them.

It's only been 2.5 years and I have to upgrade my computer with a fucking 3080ti because it only has a 11700K vs a 12700K.

I'll get DOOM: The Dark Ages after I get around to finishing DOOM Eternal. So probably around half past never.
I recommend Shadow Warrior 3. It's the better version of Eternal.Platforming is much more simplified, fun, And integrated with the combat so much better. The big help is that there's no purple goo to slow you down, and they try to put too much emphasis on it. Another help is that the platforming is pretty simplified.

The "GAMING IS DEAD/GAMES ARE DYING/REMAKES ARE KILLING THE INDUSTRY" grifters are full of shit, and they need to shut the fuck up.
Adding to this one: of these said grifters (Electric underground) that hated on the RE4 Remake and claiming how is the culmination of a bankrupt industry and ruining gaming is getting excited and wants to play Ninja Gaiden II Black. I have nothing against this game, but I find it funny that a person that's been crusading against remakes. All sudden is excited for a remake.l that's literally the same game, but with the gore added back in and slightly less features than Sigma 2. It just really shows how hypocritical and full of shit these type of people are and they're just jumping on band wagons to sound smart but the moment it's something they like or hope, and nobody notices, they'll go the opposite direction.

Here is his comment by the way, on someone else's video:

Amazing timing lol, I was just playing chapter 1 on Master Ninja minutes ago. The Master Ninja Version of this game is interesting because since the enemy spawns are pretty much the same as Sigma 2, a lot of the stage is relatively chill. And then you enter combat arenas and one hit basically kills. I'm having a ton of fun with it, but it certainly is a different beast than OG2. I'm honestly a bit surprised TN didn't do more to change this version from Sigma 2 (graphics aside) because I went through and counted the additional enemies in stage one (took forever) and they just added the 3 one-armed ninjas in the thousand lives room, a random stray ninja in the fire nimpo room, and 4 claw guys to the area where you get the staff. That's it. The delimb rate is def much more near the original release (it's insane how claw guys hardly ever delimb in sigma 2) but I'm really curious to see if there is a difference in damage taken in NG2Black. I'm gonna check on that before I finish my review of this game. Honestly this is a complicated beast to judge because in some ways the graphics additions and increased de-limb are worth it for me personally (NG2 is an all-time fav of mine as well) but on the other hand it's a shame the release isn't beefier, even outside of not preserving the OG version's enemy spawns more. But then again even a nerfed NG2 is still way more fun than the other stuff coming out right now, so I think in my review I am mostly gonna present hard data and my thoughts, but here's to hoping the game gets more support from TN. An OG enemy spawn option would be incredible, but TN probably won't go that far.

I never knew Jaffe felt this way this intensely but 🤷‍♂️ -

I'm not shocked in the slightest and this is an asshole who never grew out of his "Alpha male frat boy" phase. His is not even really a new hot take. A lot of the other fan boys that are Greek era only fans beat you to it, Jaffe. He's a has been that don't know a goddamn thing. Nobody gives a fuck about you anymore.
