Does the "gamer" aesthetic repulse you too?

So much that it prevents you from making otherwise good hardware purchases?

The aesthetic is merely tasteless. It's the people into it that make it so obnoxious.

No, it doesn't distract that much. If i can get an item with "gamer" flavour cheaper than the same thing without, i will buy the gamer thing. Particularly with costly purhcases, that are more sport those designs.

I think there’s still plenty of good hardware without the gamer aesthetic.
With monitors it's hard to find some of the fancier features or combinations in non-"gamer" models. I have one expected to arrive today. I had to pay a premium for one that doesn't have that look, and will "only" have 120 Hz.

I use quotation marks because "gamer" is not a word.

Nowadays not at all. I used to have a MSI GT72 Dominator Pro (gaming laptop) that shows off the aesthetic boldly, but the trend has relaxed much.

Been a while since I bought new hardware. I do remember being kind of frustrated when I bought my keyboard that I had trouble finding a mechanical one without those tacky LED lights.

We already have "player." "Gamer" is cringey. Made up by players.
I get where you're coming from but when video games are so prevalent as a medium that almost everyone plays them to some extent it's useful to have a distinction between people who occasionally play games the way they occasionally listen to music or occasionally watch movies and those who are actually invested in it and the culture around it as a hobby.

Gamer isn't a great term but it's the established one and trying to come up with another one would be a waste of effort, I reckon.

Huh, "gamer" passes spell check just fine. You know what word doesn't? "Cringey."

The term gamer is fine and has established itself well enough in the culture with a very specific intent and without negative connotation. You seem to continually find things to be dissatisfied with; you seem to hate the games you play, now you hate the hardware you play them on, and further, you hate the term that suggests you play games at all. Maybe gaming, sorry, maybe "engaging with video games as a player" isn't for you?

I really don't give a damn. I'm a long time gamer, and i'm not afraid to admit that. A gamer doesn't automatically mean you're a bad person nor an asshole. I don't know what got your pennies in a bunch again this time, but I don't care.

The term gamer exist. Live with it, and game on.

Ducky would be a brand worth looking at. As well as Cherry if you want quality mechanical keyboards that don’t really follow the aesthetic. Though bear in mind even on the most obnoxious unicorn vomit enabled devices, the lighting can be user controlled.

As for me, I don't hate it any more. I used to be really resistant against it but I grew up in its heyday where it had the unfortunate luck of intersecting with the first few Fast and Furious movies and the equally obnoxious aesthetic that brought (or at least really gave a big boost) to the tuner car market. Until recently my only vice in that regard was I wanted to have a cool looking case.

Because that combination of features typically don't matter outside the gaming use cases. Sorry friend, but thems the breaks.
