With monitors it's hard to find some of the fancier features or combinations in non-"gamer" models. I have one expected to arrive today. I had to pay a premium for one that doesn't have that look, and will "only" have 120 Hz.I think there’s still plenty of good hardware without the gamer aesthetic.
Spoiler, gamer is a word, we have many newer words and gamer is one of them.Spoiler
We already have "player." "Gamer" is cringey. Made up by players.Spoiler, gamer is a word, we have many newer words and gamer is one of them.
I get where you're coming from but when video games are so prevalent as a medium that almost everyone plays them to some extent it's useful to have a distinction between people who occasionally play games the way they occasionally listen to music or occasionally watch movies and those who are actually invested in it and the culture around it as a hobby. We already have "player." Huh, "gamer" passes spell check just fine. You know what word doesn't? "Cringey."We already have "player." "Gamer" is cringey. Made up by players.
Ducky would be a brand worth looking at. As well as Cherry if you want quality mechanical keyboards that don’t really follow the aesthetic. Though bear in mind even on the most obnoxious unicorn vomit enabled devices, the lighting can be user controlled.Been a while since I bought new hardware. I do remember being kind of frustrated when I bought my keyboard that I had trouble finding a mechanical one without those tacky LED lights.
Because that combination of features typically don't matter outside the gaming use cases. Sorry friend, but thems the breaks. With monitors it's hard to find some of the fancier features or combinations in non-"gamer" models. I have one expected to arrive today. I use quotation marks because "gamer" is not a word.
I enjoy lots of games. Last year, I finished and enjoyed (with asterisk for replayed)...Huh, "gamer" passes spell check just fine. You know what word doesn't? "Cringey."
The term gamer is fine and has established itself well enough in the culture with a very specific intent and without negative connotation. You seem to continually find things to be dissatisfied with; you seem to hate the games you play, now you hate the hardware you play them on, and further, you hate the term that suggests you play games at all. Maybe gaming, sorry, maybe "engaging with video games as a player" isn't for you?
Fair enough, but we don't have words for enjoyers (Now I'm making up words, probably.) of anything. A person who enjoys making miniature ships? Miniaturist is vague. I'd rather say "player" most of the time and "game enthusiast" when really needed. Also wouldn't call myself a cinephile, in spite of the crazy number of movies I watch. Pretentious, somehow.I get where you're coming from but when video games are so prevalent as a medium that almost everyone plays them to some extent it's useful to have a distinction between people who occasionally play games the way they occasionally listen to music or occasionally watch movies and those who are actually invested in it and the culture around it as a hobby.
Gamer isn't a great term but it's the established one and trying to come up with another one would be a waste of effort, I reckon.
Calling someone a gamer is like calling them a metalhead, or a gym rat, or a goth, or a gearhead. Its a simple, one or two word umbrella term that covers many different facets of a hobby or interest.Fair enough, but we don't have words for enjoyers (Now I'm making up words, probably.) of anything.
