A while back I saw in the warehouse I work at an RGB headset. Think about that. The player wants flashing lights on his head. He can't see them.
Huh, "gamer" passes spell check just fine. You know what word doesn't? "Cringey."
The term gamer is fine and has established itself well enough in the culture with a very specific intent and without negative connotation. You seem to continually find things to be dissatisfied with; you seem to hate the games you play, now you hate the hardware you play them on, and further, you hate the term that suggests you play games at all. Maybe gaming, sorry, maybe "engaging with video games as a player" isn't for you?
I enjoy lots of games. Last year, I finished and enjoyed (with asterisk for replayed)...
Metal Gear (1987)
Streets of Rage 2
Spyro the Dragon (1998)
Resident Evil 2 (1998)
Sonic Tripe Trouble 16-bit (2022)
Sonic Robo Blast 2
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Tomb Raider (1996)
The Last Guardian*
Banjo Kazooie*
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild*
Crazy Taxi**************************
Eerything or Nothing (00 Agent mode)*

My monitor didn't come today. Yesterday night, I thought to myself that it's gonna be hard to power 5K at 120 Hz, but then I remembered how few new games I play and how often I am displeased with them. The indie scene is as shitty as the AAA slop, in different but also some similar ways, and with few exceptions. Not ready to drop modern gaming entirely, though.
