Bought a lot more stuff to hang on the wall; bought 7 more Displates, bought 3 movie canvases from Scene Haus, and bought a canvas from Canvas Cultures. I bought a dresser for my bedroom finally, I was just using the massive closet for that (which was only meant to be temporary but it's been like 2 years of that).

AI art has really ruined a lot of the "original art" displates for me. I just don't want to pay $70 for something that was probably made by chatgpt where all the "artist" did was make up a prompt and made sure the art didn't have any visible hands. Unfortunately this also ruins the livelihoods of some real artists whose art looks like AI art because the AI was trained on their art.

Unfortunate because some of those look really cool.

A lot of the animal ones have that really hyper-realistic CGI look that just makes me think of AI art now regardless of whether they are AI art or not (as obviously the AI has to pull the content from somewhere). Outside of that look, I don't think I'm too good at identifying it though because I don't really know much of the telltale signs; though like any food I see on Facebook, I assume it's AI generated now. With the sales they were having all holiday season it seems, they probably came out to like $35/per with tax and shipping added in.

Debating purchasing a new watch. All of my watches are kind of bulky automatic pilot style watches,, and I'd like something that fits a little better under a button up shirt to wear with suits, or to wear more comfortably with other closer fitting long sleeve jackets.

Saw a watch that I think looks pretty cool and interesting.

It's a 1980s soviet era watch from a company called "Raketa" (Rocket). They have a connection to the Russian space program, and I think this particular one is cool because the hour and minute "hands" are meant to represent celestial bodies.

It's not very expensive (as far as vintage watches go), and Raketa watches have a pretty decent reputation (though not on par with anything Swiss), however I'm still a little distrustful of Soviet era quality control.

Rage of Honor (Blu-Ray) came in today. Glad they did a re-release of this that is not overpriced and I got it on sale. I got all of the leading Sho Kusogi films I want now.

Instead of buying a new watch I decided to build my own custom watch. It seemed like fun, and it'll be cool to tell people I built my own unique 1 of 1 watch.

Will I actually be able to do it though? We'll see if it works out. Just picked out and ordered all the necessary parts and tools.

Have been using a Zidoo Z9X to play movies from my NAS since October 2022. It gets choppy with UHD rips when the bitrate goes very low, like during credits and fades to black. Most discs are not encoded that way, but enough are that it really bothers me. Also is choppy when I rewind UHD movie rips too many times, forcing me to reboot. Not half hour TV shows, just longer UHD videos. I ordered a Zidoo Z9X 8K. I figure that with three times as much RAM (from 2 GB to 6), a newer 1.9 GHz processor (from this 1.3 GHz CPU) and moving from Android 9 to 11, I will never experience choppiness again.

Also purchased Miyazaki and Takahata's 1978 Future Boy Conan TV show. Watched it in 2016, liked it a lot. All the Anime somehow has the complete 4K collectors edition for 66 pounds. Even with 25 pounds in shipping, it's much cheaper than if I had gotten it on Amazon UK. The grain management looks lovely in the screenshots I've seen. Applied with more care than in so many other 35 mm anime.

I bought Ninja Gaiden II Black last week. The MvC Collection on Switch is on sale at Amazon, and I got that delivered to me yesterday. It and PS4 version are on sale at Amazon only for $30.

This was 85% off on Steam. Immortals of Aveum and its a really good looking game. Unreal Engine 5. Didn't do well sales wise. Reviews were meh on them but for cheap? I think worth getting.

Built the watch I planned back in January.

I have a Fortis automatic pilot watch that I normally wear that's a black steal case with a black face, white and red hands, white numerals, and a date and day of the week complication. I decided I wanted something that's similar but with exactly the opposite styling so that I have a watch to go with virtually every outfit.

Here's the two watches side by side. On the left is the watch I normally wear, and on the right is what I built.

It’s an automatic with a date complication, white face with blue numerals and hands, and a titanium case with a screw down crown. In theory if I put it together right it should be water proof to 200m but I’m not testing that.

I'm pretty happy with the way it looks, the hands and hour indicators are extremely shiny and also have pretty good lume, and the watch is extremely lightweight because of its titanium case and slightly smaller size. I'm not loving the strap, it looks a little cheap (because it was), but that's also the easiest thing to replace.

Those belt loops look like they'd break in a few months. I have a similar strap, but the belt hoops are hella thick for some reason. Both in terms of the loop itself and the leather it's made of. Quite annoyed they don't sell that style anymore in the store I bought it from.

The fuck are you doing with your watches that the loops in the strap break? There's no strain on those, they just retain the excess strap material. They don't need to be thick.

The watch on the left was a graduation gift from my dad when I finished college. I've had it for almost 13 years, and it's the watch I generally wear on a daily basis. The strap has never been replaced and the loops are thinner than the ones on the new watch and have always been fine.
