Oh its far more frustrating now. Just look at the US where everyone warned them about Trump being a far right extremist at best and a fascist at worst. The response was that even people outside the deranged cult, the supposedly reasonable center went ''Yeah we know and we know its bad but we just don't WANT to stop him from coming to power''.

But there's also Poland where the voters deliberately voted for a far right criminal president who they knew would deadlock parliament for years. Or Britain where everyone agreed Brexit failed but the voters still think trusting mister Brexit will work out THIS time.

The dangers are far clearer now yet the public is about trice as unwilling to listen to reason. There's always some excuse why voting for, or at least allowing the far right extremist to win is preferable to voters just doing their duty.

Stop Trump coming to power how, exactly? He won a democratic vote. Twice, even if the first time by a quirk of the electoral system despite being narrowly behind on the popular vote.

What does anyone think should be done? Media and plenty of the "centre" were not exactly shy about pointing out Trump was a liar, fraudster; that he was temperamentally unsound, authoritarian and corrupt. Not only did this fail to move Trump supporters against Trump, if anything it decreased the credibility of those entities with Trump supporters. (If they even noticed, because plenty were probably not even accessing non-right media to see Trump called that.) The same goes for all those far right guys in Europe. I'm not sure it matters what the left or centre say about those candidates. Their supporters aren't listening or don't care.

There's lots of finger wagging and blame, but the reality is that no-one has an answer. Otherwise someone would have put that answer into effect.

I think you possibly underestimate how little huge numbers of voters know about politics. They're voting on vibes, and generalisations, and vague, woolly concepts. Project 2025 means nothing to them. They don't hold that level of detail, and they'll switch off if you try to tell them. This represents a vast quantity of voters all all types: Some of them are deeply committed political fanatics, because their fanaticism obviates their need to know stuff.

Just a quibble. Trump 1 took a while to get started. The position of the economy in Jan 2020 as we are now; teetering on recession. Covid saved Trump's political career and, in a weird way, benefitted the economy
