Eh yeah, they're gonna raise prices, innit? What a world, where the cheapest time to buy a console is at launch.

Assuming it is a price hike, I'm bemused it's the US paying the piper this time tho. The competition did pretty much everyone except the US.

That said, I have little illusion about the rest of the world not following suit.

Nintendo price rises announced August 1, 2025:
  • Nintendo Switch: $339.99 (up from $299.99)
  • Nintendo Switch OLED: $399.99 (up from $349.99)
  • Nintendo Switch Lite: $229.99 (up from from $199.99)
  • Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo: $110 (up from $99.99)
  • Joy-Con 2 controllers: $100 (up from $94.99)
The hilarious/worst part is, Nintendo shill will go out of their ways to defend this price change (something-something-Trump), and would die on that hill

$100 price increase for a 8 year old system? They just never wanna sell another one of those things i guess.
Fuck off Nintendo. I don't blame anyone for buying the OG Switches used or refurbished. What kind of fucking scheme are they even doing and why? Nintendo, you never lost any money on the console! Go fuck yourselves!

Let's try that again with real prices;
  • Nintendo Switch: $340 (up from $300)
  • Nintendo Switch OLED: $400 (up from $350)
  • Nintendo Switch Lite: $230 (up from from $200)
  • Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo: $110 (up from $100)
  • Joy-Con 2 controllers: $100 (up from $95)

Still a bit of a piss take for older systems. The Switch Lite is the one I feel least put off by but I still don’t understand the logic. I’d keep them where they are or drop the price to just shift the fuckers.

I am not shocked in the slightest. Understandable, coming from EA, but this is not the first time them and Nintendo had troubles with each other because of either console limitations, or EA themselves not giving any effort.

Those destruction physics will probably eat the console alive. I don't find it worth getting upset about. If I ever do get BF6, I will either wait on a sale or borrow from my older brother. Though I would play the game for the single player. Assuming it will be good. Waiting for reviews on this one so much right now.

I dunno why but I am mildly interested in bf6, never played a single one of those, but I felt like trying something different and it actually looked pretty fun. It's the first time I haven't heard everyone complaining about the new entry to this series in a long while. There always seemed to be something that pissed people off but this one seems to have hit the ground running.

Probably because it's going through a "back to the roots" phase (Bad Company, BE3, & BF4 specifically), and ditching all of the other bullshit that didn't work. Nor just be a live-service, wannabe OverWatch clone with lootboxes like 2042 is.

The destruction is basically scripted (controlled) anyways.

"Don't be sad, this is just how it works out sometimes."

I once had a Battlefield player tell me that it would be "so cool" to have an entire map leveled to the ground by destruction. Yeah, right up until you're looking for cover from that team of 32 snipers hiding at the edge of the map.

Deconstruct what? EA, it's not the 360 era anymore. 1: You had a chance, and never took it. 2: Spec-Ops already did this, and even think they did not do a great job with it. I imagine you all fucking up worse.

I imagine he was thinking of being some ultimate bad ass, but realistically, this would be the outcome:

GOG offers 13 free NSFW games as it launches anti-censorship campaign, FreedomToBuy.Games

UPDATE: One million people opted to make the most of GOG's FreedomToBuy.Games initiative within 24 hours of its debut.

Censorship is quietly deciding which games you can buy. We are fighting back.

Updated on Aug. 4, 2025

UPDATE 4/8/2025: GOG has announced that one million people opted to make the most of its FreedomToBuy.Games initiative within 24 hours of its debut.

"The response is so much beyond our expectations that our team needs to work around the clock to maintain the stability of the platform," GOG said in a new post, adding "remember: any DRM-free game you get and download from GOG can never be taken away from you".

The original story continues below.
ORIGINAL 2/8/25: GOG has launched an all-new project to raise awareness of censorship in gaming: FreedomToBuy.Games.

The digital games platform, which has long been campaigning for the better preservation of DRM-free games, said it believes that "if a game is legal and responsibly made, players should be able to enjoy it today – and decades from now".

Consequently, for the next 28-ish hours or so at the time of writing, it is offering up 13 games for free – including Postal 2, Agony, and House Party – "because if a game is legal, you should be free to buy it".

"Thanks to the dedication of developers and publishers, we are launching FreedomToBuy.games," the company said in a statement. "To raise awareness on censorship in gaming, 13 games are now available for free for 48h as a part of stand for creative freedom and preservation.

"We believe that if a game is legal and responsibly made, players should be able to enjoy it today – and decades from now. It’s our statement: when games are delisted today because of discomfort, reviving them tomorrow becomes exponentially harder."

The campaign comes after itch.io creators began reporting their NSFW games were no longer being displayed in search results on the platform in June. Shortly thereafter, we learned itch.io had "deindexed" all NSFW content following discussions with payment processors contacted by the same Australian pressure group that recently targeted Steam, which similarly "retired" unspecified NSFW titles and introduced vague new rules banning "certain kinds of adult content" from its own PC storefront.

GOG announced its Preservation Program last November, when 100 games were part of the line-up. That list has continued to expand since then with a regular influx of new additions - including Monolith Production's much-loved horror shooter FEAR, which was added to "honour [the studio's] legacy" in February, following Monolith's shock closure.

well isn't that nice, at least I'm not the only one baffled by the new, uh, system?

Weren't the destructions always player-triggered? I swear BF4 levolution events always happened because something was done by the players.

What I want is for these destructions to actually have an impact on the map; Like the players now needing to climb the rubbles, cave-ins blocking tunnels, or maybe even something crazy like a toppled tree becoming a makeshift bridge to cross a ravine or a valley. Or maybe they can roll down a hill, and block a path for a jeep?

Also, it looks like the game is going back to 64 players per match. I think this works rather well. Because holy shit, BF2042's 128 players absolutely made the experience miserable.

Raven Software Workers Secure First Contract at Microsoft

August 4, 2025

Middleton, Wis. – Today, workers at Raven Software, a video game studio and subsidiary under Microsoft/Activision Blizzard, unanimously voted to ratify their first union contract between Game Workers Alliance-CWA (GWA-CWA) members and Microsoft. The contract builds on the recent organizing momentum by Microsoft video game workers organizing with CWA to raise standards across the video game industry, coming on the heels of ZeniMax Workers United-CWA members securing a contract with the tech giant in June.
After nearly three years of bargaining, the collective-bargaining agreement ensures lasting protections in the workplace, including:
  • A guaranteed 10-percent wage increase over two years with additional raises through merit and promotions, after going 18 months without wage increases and 45 months without promotions;
  • The elimination of crunch time, with seven days’ notice required for mandatory overtime, no excessive overtime on back-to-back weeks, flexible scheduling of overtime, and no mandatory overtime of any duration for the majority of weeks in a quarter;
  • Bridging of time worked as a temporary or contract employee, defined job descriptions and a fair promotions process, expanded disability accommodations, and layoff protections including severance, recall rights, generous COBRA subsidies, and career transition services.
“After more than three years of organizing and bargaining, seeing it finally pay off feels incredible,” said Erin Hall, QA tester at Raven Software and member of the bargaining committee. “From day one, we made it a priority to include every voice in the room, and the contract we came out with reflects what we need—better pay, real career paths, and protection from burnout. It’s a contract that actually values the work QA does. I’m proud of what we accomplished, and I hope it shows other game workers that organizing works—and it’s worth it.”
“Going from organizing to sitting across the table from one of the largest tech corporations in the world was a huge learning curve, but we never lost sight of why we were there,” said Autumn Prazuch, QA tester at Raven Software and bargaining committee member. “We fought hard for raises and job structures that will finally make QA a sustainable career path, and we were able to negotiate limitations on mandatory crunch. Ratifying this contract is a win for game workers everywhere who are ready to take the first step toward a better future.”
“This contract between CWA members and Microsoft is proof that when video game workers organize, they can win lasting changes in the workplace,” said CWA District 4 Vice President Linda L. Hinton. “By reaching an agreement with Microsoft that puts limits on excessive sustained overtime, also known as crunch, these members are tackling one of the most exploitative practices in the industry and setting new standards for quality assurance testers and video game workers overall. We are pleased to welcome these members into the CWA District 4 family.”
In January 2022, GWA-CWA became the first unit within Activision Blizzard to form a union, shortly before Microsoft announced plans to acquire the company. Since its founding in 1990, Raven Software has become one of the most exclusive video game companies. The studio, which was acquired by Activision Blizzard in 1997, is responsible for the Call of Duty series, which the Raven QA team predominantly works on.

They’re triggered, but it’s all predetermined by the devs as to the what, where and how it happens. More like “events” that can change how the match plays out.

Lies of P just came out on PS+ Essentials today. Amazed this far into the gen, still no PS5 exclussives on +. I'm downloading the PS4 version to an 8 TB external as I don't think I'd note that big a difference. Dunno why they're still doing this. PS4 exclussives seemed to be part of + year one of the PS4. Been a weird console gen.
