I can only see good things coming from the new ownership based on other saudi owned companies. SNK is my main point of focus. Outside of arguably adding some random middle eastern inspired char here and there, nothing was really ruined or censored and all the cool or provocative content is still in SNK games, the new Fatal Fury is the best fighting game to come out this year by a huge margin.

It's strange that saudi ownership would better represent the average gamer than weird "current era" devs from California seem to in a lot of cases, but with EA in particular I don't think they could do any worse. At least now there's a chance at improvement. Going back to the aesthetic and cultural movement that gave us games like DA:Origins is still possible, so I'm a glass half-full guy here.
While I am happy that the games did well. Most people don't like the new characters that are from real life celebrities. The soccer guy, known for domestic issues and paying people off not to charge him for it. That's a big warning sign and something that should never be ignored. The d j people love a bit more, but still nobody's asking for these real life, people to be in fighting games. And that only just makes it age worse. Nobody even bothers picking the soccer guy. Especially since he's in the base roster and not a returning character from the past.

Looking at one game, does it automatically make it better, and i'm looking with caution, just like anybody else. To not do so or least consider, it is foolhardy and being selectively oblivious.

Yeah, that did actually happen. Granted, the game was done before the buy out, but I completely understand.
At launch, it might not be so bad, but I am kinda worried about future roadmap.

Apparently the buyout also involved some massive loan as well. My fear is that to make up for this loan, somewhere down the line BF6 and other EA games are gonna charge playerbase for everything.

IDK, maybe I am looking way too much into this

I think it really depends on the Saudi's involvement with the company. They might have just bought it as a holding firm to generate passive income from the billions that Ultimate Team boosters make every year. The real question is what they'll do in terms of game development, what they'll greenlight versus not, and how they'll affect the games that devs can make. Last I check the Saudi's aren't super keen on women or gays so those things might start to vanish from EA games as an example.

There was some drama initially but then people actually used the guest chars and both are actually exceedingly thoughtfully crafted chars, Ronaldo kinda pingpongs the soccer ball back at you and can hit it multiple times with his normals setting up a lot of situations, and the DJ guy has a lot of really weird fun moves like flying or unblockables or a flick counter like Beerus.

SNK wasn't only recently purchased by the Saudis, that happened years ago. Games like KoFXV and the recent Samurai Showdown game also came out after their acquisition and outside of chars like Najd
(she's cool too btw, she's not sexy but more stylish) they didn't seem to somehow affect anything. The sexy ladies are still sexy, the guys with long hair still have long hair, music and dancing and alcohol is included etc., no cultural shift transpired.

Basically SNK was dying but after they bought them and funded them as they deserved they made a miraculous comeback from the brink and I can't shake the feeling that it's not just capitalistic greed at work but on some level you had some prince be a fighter fan and instead of buying another 20 diamond yachts for orcas to sink or whatever he funded SNK games, and I'm all for that.

I was kinda thinking of getting BF6 but realistically I know I'd not spend much time in the multiplayer so I just ended up getting the new Doom which is more single player focused, it's a great game, maybe give it a chance if you haven't yet. It has a dragon you can ride! :p

There was some drama
It was more than just some. Let's not downplay it here. It did bite them in the butt a little bit, because almost nobody wants to play the soccer guy.

As for the rest, i'm already well aware of SNK's backstory and why they got bought out. I don't need another rundown, and then a bunch of excuses again. Pat and Woolie already briefly covered that.

I'm not giving in to wilful ignorance and just claiming how "everything will be fine". That's stupid and dangerous, and I'm not surprised that it's coming from you.

There was more drama about the DJ than Ronaldo actually so I dunno where you're getting your data from. And most people seldom play the technical difficult chars who have a unique minigame for you to learn on top of the rest of the game. I doubt if you made his playstyle into like a Prince of Tennis char guest instead but kept the complexity that he'd be that much more used. Also btw Mai is just as lowly used and she's like the face of the franchise cause she's kinda low tier and tricky too.

And there's no excuse, SNK is doing better now and it's been years, if the saudi influence was harmful they would be doing worse. Basic logic. They benefited from it significantly and made 3 good games (and the ps4/stream port of XIII with rollback) under their influence. It's just all good.

And that's a straight up lie. I'll hear nothing otherwise. People definitely didn't like the dj, but he actually got people to like the character due to his personality and crazy move sets.

This conversation is done.

More on the Game Pass story.
I just found out about twenty minutes ago on the other forum.

They couldn't stand that the xbox console was the only thing failing, they had to make gamepass bomb too!

It just suck cause in a year or two they'll have to start killing the studio they brought cause "gaming is losing revenue", I just hope obsidian makes it out okay.

I expect almost no survivors at this point. Ninja Theory might be going too. All microsoft picked him up for was their motion capture technology. I've had my dislikes with that developer, but I never wanted anything bad to happen to them like this.

Maybe they wouldn’t need a loan if they compromised on making all their palaces out of solid gold.

$15 a month always seemed too good to be true, because it was. It was a loss leader strategy. Microsoft's big problem is that Game Pass didn't grow at the pace they would like. Hiking prices is finally an acknowledgment that they lost the battle and now they are going into turtle/save money mode.

Unfortunately, this comes after having conditioned people to see that $15 as the "correct" price (best deal in gaming), a pandemic bubble, their console business flailing to where major retailers plain don't carry their products anymore, and about a dozen years of pissing away the customer goodwill built up over the preceding dozen years.

That's an absolutely unrealistic goal, even at the ridiculously low price it started off with.

Well, they've been so honest the past years, so I completely believe them now.
I get the distinct feeling it’s gonna be stadia 2.0, with the actual hardware being a controller. Because “cloud gaming is the future of the landscape”

Oh and stopping production on all regular controllers because of that, and only selling elite controllers other than stadia 2.0
