Another Steam Nextfest so you know what that means, DEMOS!
Anyway, so far I've tried 4. Painted in Blood(fps horror), Marvel Cosmic Invasion(brawler), Menace (turn based strategy), and 40k Mechanicus 2 (turn based strategy).
Painted in Blood seemed fine, I found the fov kinda weird, but its horror so that might be on purpose. The setup seems to be you play as an artist in a big mansion and are going insane or something and monsters show up. Combat feels fine, you get magic powers to deal with some enemies, some platforming too. Worth keeping an eye on, but not mind blowing. Good art direction though.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a brawer by the devs behind TNMNT Shredders Revenge and its very good. Only played a couple levels but they are balanced nicely, 9 characters to choose from and each plays pretty different, much more then they did in TNMNT. Sound and voices could use work, but the gameplay is top notch.
Menace is a turn based strategy game. I'm not really sure what other game to liken it to, its got a bit of xcom in it but not as much as most that I enjoy. You have a few squads and a vehicle you send down to do missions. You manage your squads gear/vehicle weapons and go do objectives. Cover system works by just running next to a rock or building, but you can also hunker down to reduce chance to be hit, also use some heavy weapons. Firing at enemies will kill them, but can also suppress them which can knock out their turn. You have a missile strike and strafing run you can call in to. Its pretty cool, but something about it feels like its still lacking in something, not really sure right now. Could certainly use more direction for where enemies are, the maps are kinda big, and until you spot someone you are just wandering blind, unless you paid attention during the briefing which will show you were enemies are, but no in game map that does that as far as I could tell.
40k Mechanicus 2. This one was also really cool, I enjoyed the first game even though the difficulty was super wonky, but I get the feeling this one won't have the same issue. You also play both the techpriests and Necrons and they are mostly fully voiced (the floating servo skull says things but its all in mechanical language). Gameplay is actually decently different from the first game, you still get cognition points but they aren't a win button like they were in the first game and your main tehcpriest is powerful, but much more fragile, at least in the demo. Another one I am now quite looking forward too.
