It's still gonna be cheaper than gaming PCs in 2026.
Yeah, without the crazy PC price, this would be terrible, but considering any reasonable amount of RAM is close to that price, I guess its pretty good?

Not beating console at that price thought, so kinda of a weird niche product.

There are signs that Gamestop is closing hundreds of its stores, as well as its EB Games subsidiary in New Zealand.

Terrible CEO and overall shitbag Ryan Cohen has been promised a $35 million payout if he gets Gamestop up to a market cap of $100 billion. For comparison, in the era of "gamestonks" when the company's stock was trading at $480 a share, their market cap was $33.7 billion; it's at $9.5 billion now. All I can say is: Good luck.

Hopefully, none of my local ones left get hit. I lost two of them already. One back in 2014, and the other in 2022. I only got one left that's 5-10 minutes away from me.

Even with digital sales I still think it’s weird to bankrupt and close a game store. Games are one of the few items reliably bought by kids and adults alike. So where is that money going?

Grrrr. Steam stopped even asking if I wanted a short cut on my desktop before installing a game.

Man, I miss the vibe that I was getting at GS; Somewhere around late 2000s to mid 2010s. Yea the whole store credit system sucked major balls, but I miss the people that shared the same frustration.

Especially the midnight releases. Call me crazy, but I actually didn't mind going to them; I met so many interesting people while waiting in line, shared our thoughts about what they are excited the most about the new game they are about to get, and just talking about everything else in-between.

Hell, one time Buffalo Wild Wings handed out free wings for the people waiting! Now that was an amazing midnight snack!

But afterwards, that charm begin to disappear; Midnight release not happening was probably a good thing, but I began to see fewer people waiting in line for the new releases, stores shifting into more of a merch store than a game store, and staff becoming even more of a douche. And let's not forget about all those demos that disappeared as well, although granted that was on Sony/MS for not making free demos available.

Is the CEO terrible? Oh absolutely.
Did GS brought this on themselves? Arguable, but yes.

Kinda like Xbox Live, I am gonna try to miss and remember GS for all those good times I spent there.

Yeah, midnight releases for stuff you were really anticipating are a fond memory. Makes me nostalgic for the time when I was far less cynical about the industry and actually had excitement for new stuff beyond "how broken will it be, and how much am I going to be expected to spend over the initial price tag before I have a complete experience."

An anecdote: way back in 2013, I was living in Ft. Worth, TX, and I pre-ordered my Xbox One at a local GameStop. At some point between making the pre-order and the November launch, I moved to Plano, TX, about ~40 miles east. I tried to see if I could transfer my pre-order to a GameStop here, and they said I couldn't. It was fine; my plan was to make the drive back to Ft. Worth late afternoon, have a couple of drinks at the watering hole I frequented when I lived there, then grab my Xbox at midnight. Welp, I picked a grand night to go to the old bar; all of my friends were there and VERY excited to see me again. Drinks were flowing, shots kept coming, I played probably a dozen games of pool, etc. Anyway, around 11:30pm, I bid my buddies adieu, covered one eye, and drove to the GameStop down the street. I still had about 15-20 minutes to wait when I got there, so I decided to just close my eyes for a minute. What I heard next was the sound of storefront security gates being closed. I looked at my clock, it was 12:13am; I'd missed the midnight launch and the only people around were me and the guy locking the store down for the night. I panicked and jumped out of my car with my receipt and begged the guy to let me have my Xbox. He laughed and said "we wondered where you were!" He re-opened the gates, gave me my Xbox and all the freebie swag that belonged to me. That was my last midnight launch experience, and I basically missed it.

OMG I was so pissed at Geoff for this. They must have given him an INCREDIBLE blowjob to be the final reveal at his show.
Tell me about it; If it was revealed in the middle of the show and/or pass off as a simple "upcoming game", I wouldn't have minded so much. But Geoff hyped it up like he was about to announce half-life 3.

BTW, this was the audience reaction:

That has to be the least enthusiastic round of applause that I've ever heard.

In comparison, here's how crowd reacted to Fate Of The Old Republic And Divinity:

I dont know how many stupid ass hero shooters need to crash and burn before these people will stop wasting time and money in nonsense.

I understand the big gamble that if just ONE hits it'll make billions, but the problem is you are never going to be able to make a hit like that until the current monster on the market (fortnite) starts to dewindle and die. Or maybe when Valorant, Apex, Overwatch 2, Tarkov, Pubg, CS:GO, start to fall away. But the market is already saturated with this shit.

You have to make a different live shit soul sucking piece of shit in order to have a chance. You can't just come in and copy the homework because people already did the homework and don't want to relearn math again.

The same shit happened with countless MMO's trying to compete with WoW, every single one of them fucking died or floats around with minimal life support until WoW shot it's own dick off for a while. And guess that FF14 took the crown for a while but managed to shoot itself in the dick even faster and now WoW's got the bloody crown again.

Same thing with COD Clones/Gears clones (still the worst), 90s mascot platformers, beat'em ups that tried copying Final Fight, fighting games in the 90s, GTA clones/open world games, and now the Souls games.

I figure it's one of two possibilities: They're either saving up for the most epic of launch-day blitzes, or they're completely shellshocked by the reaction to the reveal and have no idea what to do.
