That seems pretty clear now, because he's being actively stupid in the things he says. Claiming "nobody wants this" is already a dumb thing to say (about almost any piece of entertainment, really), but saying that it's just Fantasy now and there's zero mythology... I know you're not that stupid Dave, I know your eyes can recognize clear Egyptian motifs. And saying that if 'God of War' wasn't in the title nobody would be looking at this...
And the very first game that he came up with and directed is still my favourite game in the franchise. To see him have become this horrible little creature of a man is just tarnishing his own legacy.
Seriously. The dude should feel really lucky the IP that he created is still getting attention, for the right reasons no less.
It's not slowly being forgotten, like Jak and Daxter, inFamous, or Perfect Dark
It's also not getting shitty entries to the franchise, like Dragon Age Veilguard.
Does he have any idea how rare it is for a franchise to remain relevant while maintaining the consistency of games being well-received? Outside of a few Nintendo IPs, I sure haven't seen them.
I would've glazed the crap out of Santa Monica if I was him. Maybe reflect on the character growth of Kratos from where it all began to where he is right now.
Jaffe left Santa Monica after GoW2 because he wanted to strike it big on his own and buy himself a villa, or something like that.
And that didn't work out, because the most relevant he's been in almost 20 years was a middling Twisted Metal reboot in 2012.
Meanwhile, Santa Monica Studio's success only grew after his departure, God of War becoming more popular than it ever was under his tenure.
In short. Santa Monica without Jaffe? Prestigious top tier studio. Jaffe without Santa Monica? Loud mouth has-been.
And the bloke just reeks of ego, so I'm pretty sure that's eating him up inside.

Not really relevant, but I just remembered that there was a twisted metal show (movie?) that came out like last year and I never even heard of what it was like, so it probably didn't exactly do well...
Its second season aired last summer and it has been renewed for a third season apparently.
I haven't seen it.
It's a show that acknowledgesTwisted Metal is conceptually really goofy and dumb, and it rolls with it. I wouldn't call it great tv, but I enjoyed it for what it is.
