I find the suit so ugly. Too much realism in a cartoon character. The Arkham problem of too much detail.

From stealth to action, single button "awesome" (meaning mechanically lame) kills all over the place, with floaty Arkham magnetism. Another character that snaps to far enemies without any acceleration, practically flying at them. Once again, the player does not control the foot movement; it's skipped with a single press. The dancing of martial arts, absent. You will not feel engaged as you are when you watch Jackie Chan and Benny "The Jet" Urquidez circle and taunt each other and dart in for quick attacks before pulling back in Meals on Wheels. But the camerawork is worse than Arkham, always staying cramped over the shoulder rather than pulling out for good visibility. Should be better on a mouse and keyboard (although it may never be ported, if Sony wasn't lying to get more double-buyers), but not excusable.

Opened the video randomly at the point where Faye says "There has to be a way out of here". Wish they'd gone with a personality that wasn't Reboot Lara Croft, who spent her whole tenure stating out loud that X has to bend to her immediate needs. Obviously this is merely the game telling the player to keep trying to find the one contextual prompt, but boy did it get on my nerves.
Isn't that bog standard for any (voiced) videogame character? Even with reboot Lara I can't say this stood out to me more than with any other protagonist. It's like them saying 'What that over there?'

Also bare in mind that this gameplay reveal is probably cobbled together, and a lot of dialoge that we hear might not even end up in the finished release. It's unlikely that we meet two companions and the two seemingly main baddies within 10 minutes of starting the game either. It's trying to throw as much vague information as it can within a short time for the sake of this reveal.

Why'd they put Jean Grey in a black coat?! I like Insomniac, I really do, but why can't they help but put this bland aesthestic in their realistic games? I mean, Wolverine's suit looks like Wolverine's suit... and yet, why does it feel like something he bought in a store somewhere? The Spider-Man games had the same problem, where most of the outfits looked like foam rubber.

I dig the Dan Hedaya shoulders, but for the love of god Insomniac, get someone on the team to get the hero suits to look atleast somewhat interesting.

My point exactly, they're giving her a bog standard personality, that spouts bog standard dialogue. Feels like a wasted opportunity to make Kratos' wife into a distinct character with her own idiosyncrasies. You couldn't pick her apart in a lineup with Reboot Lara, Aloy or any of the main Resi ladies. Maybe Grace because she has a stutter.

Reboot Lara behaving and talking in a bland, generically beleaguered voice is something that Yahtzee brought up in every ZP review of the new trilogy and also whenever he finds a new bland, generically beleaguered protagonist to compare to. Yes, yes, Yahtzee also once mentioned [insert horrible take]. I'm not suggesting that proves anything, just that it's been noted before.

Hopefully there's more to her. I know it's just a trailer, but like I mentioned I clicked on the video randomly ahead (as you do when looking for gameplay in a gameplay trailer) and it was disheartening that the first thing I hear is "generically beleaguered protagonist looking for button prompt". It's a nothing burger peeve and I only bring it up because Kratos himself is one of the most idiosyncratic characters in gaming, even after the Norse saga dulled him out a bit.

Dude, you're being asinine over nothing and just judging it off of twenty minutes. Get over yourself and stop worrying over nothing. How about wait until there's an actual reveal of more of what's going on, or when the game comes out. Man the fuck up.

I guess, but on paper most game protagonists couldn't be picked out of a line-up. Leon S. Kennedy is now pretty much defined by his 80's one-liners, and Joel in TLoU was stoic man with a tragic past. It's the execution that generally makes all the difference. There's not much to make yet out of Faye from this demo, other than what we already know about her from the previous games; being a good fighter and being caring. Which gets highlighted in this demo. I can't say I'd compare her to reboot Lara, since even the side characters in Santa Monica's last two games have more personality than her.

And beleaguered voice... I mean, she sounds beleaguered when she's straining herself and being subdued, but again that's videogame characters for ya. Kratos has a tons of grunts, and args, and mffs in his repetoire too.

The scene where she's thrown into the cage and is all 'arg, let me out' felt a bit redundant, and I am getting a bit tired of the gasping wake-up we see a lot in games now. But other than that there wasn't anything that rubbed me the wrong way about her. She has a good voice, they spruced up her design from Ragnarok, and her fighting style looks exciting enough.

Really I was able to download just fine. Check the more info/details tab of the Way of the Sword game page. It should be underneath those. That is where I found it.

Gotta admit though it does sound like *cinematic formula #1* for a protagonist we’ve seen so often the last couple gens, especially from Sony. Nothing wrong with calling it out.

Which you already know they're going to change up or alter. Nobody is anything worth crying about, nor a "genius" for pointing it out.

I guess I'm mostly reacting to this trend of ironing out the personality out of things. Joel was always fairly generic as a leading man, and so was Leon until he got a personality in RE4 - which in turn was immediately sanded down, even in the remake. I guess 2018 Kratos gets a pass because if feels like an evolution of his character rather than a corporate retooling. Which it was, obviously, but it also serviced the story they wanted to tell, so whatever.

I'm sure there's more to Faye's character than this first impression, I just didn't much care for this first impression. These games become more and more about the cinematic storytelling rather than the gameplay (I mainly just remember the cutscenes in Ragnarok) so I don't think it's in bad faith to pull focus on the writing.

Why do i feel like the only person who still likes the Sony hollywood story games?
Good news: you are never the "only one". Don't let the dislike ratio on the video fool you. Mainly angry biatch chuds and bots. They don't represent the entire population of Earth. I am excited for this game, and glad they brought back the jump button and air combos.
