Understandable. when I buy a game I know I'm going to enjoy, I do get my money's worth. Regardless if I paid at full price or not. It does not always work out that way, but when it does, I freaking love it. Especially when I'm playing a stylish action game. I don't have time for 25 to 40+hour games. I'm more of us 6 to the 15-hour person. Even when I had spare time back then, I would usually avoid the overly-long games anyway.
Yeah I tend to avoid JRPGs for that reason, as they are FAR too long for their own good and I share Yahtzee's criticisms of them "separating gameplay and story with a wrought-iron fence", western RPGs like the Fallout and Mass Effect games I find far more interesting.

Japan also likes a lot of REALLY creepy shit, so forgive me for not giving two shits what they think about this game.

*Looks at some of the stuff that happens with Furries in the west*
*Looks at the 'clopping' fans *

And you're saying people in the West aren't into some weird shit?

Hell there's Session Wrestling which is a fetish for strong / muscular woman beating the shit out of men.............I'll leave that knowledge with you and let you determine the relevance to the game in question and the creative directors history.

that's the thing, what worked for you is not working for a lot of people right now. It is even worse with a Japanese, and they love the first last of us game. I know someone mentioned in on the form earlier, and I was shocked that happened. They love the new God of War more than this game.

I know the game is still making sales, but I'm worried about the long-term after effects. global corporate circle jerking, anti-sjw fans, most of the game critics care more about tearing at each other's throats than having fun orplaying the actual game. All of this and most of these people will learn nothing from it. Only for the dumb process to start all over again.
A return to the glory days of companies not giving a fuck about offending people?

Stop trying to make 1 game for everyone and start making multiple different games for different audiences?

I mean can you imagine food companies trying to do this?

Make a Perfect Past Sauce for everyone?

Spare me the transphobia.
Um that's not Transphobia. That's pointing out a recurring criticism from pop culture critics can be applied here. The literal "Man with boobs" concept.
Abby is apparently built like a man, is fairly violent / brutal and based on the sex scene she's not really one for passion / Romance and even much foreplay.

It does kinda speak to on our own social issues, and reflects it back in a way. Not sure how much of it is passion or just an outlet for other personal misery. The game seemed like it was designed to be a shit magnet though. Pretty unfortunate since it is made exceptionally well from a technical/artistic standpoint. The design choices involving story beats, structure, characters and pacing are what mainly bog it down. I don’t mind the dark brooding tone, but it could’ve used some more levity besides smalltalk banter about angry wives and such. For all the excellence in character performances they don’t have much personality on display, which would’ve also been nice. I’m spoiled by the camp life of RDR2 I guess.

Having said that, in terms of story I always try to go in with a grain of salt, and realize that it’s art like anything creative. It’s technically not there to please me or even agree with how I think it woulda/coulda/shoulda been, so to help preserve my sanity whether it’s books, movies, TV, games, etc. I try to make sense of it from the writer’s perspective and ultimately accept it for what it is, good or bad. For instance I don’t feel the characters can be specifically faulted for behaving as they do, because they are written to be flawed. At most I can lay criticism down for how their individual threads are tied together.
Apparently in an interview with GQ or something Druckman claimed to want to 'Take down gaming sacred cow' so to speak

For Druckmann, he’s faced years of doubt for even thinking a sequel was worthwhile. “The first game is so sacred. The ending is so sacred,” he says. “People are always like, ‘Do another one but focus [on] all new characters.’ Or like, ‘Do it in, like, Europe. Or do it in Japan. Do something really different.’” But in the end he felt that diverging from Joel and Ellie’s story was the “coward’s way out. To me, at that point, you might as well just do a new IP,” he continues, “versus saying: no, we’re gonna double down and we’re gonna expose what this ending means. To take some of the things that people hold sacred and just... dismantle it.”

I’d like the full story to eventually surface sooner than later about the reasoning behind her character model. IIRC they’ve only said it was to help LGTBQ’s feel comfortable, which is understandable. But whether she was always intended to be designed as cis or not isn’t entirely certain. Her voice hadn’t deepened at all from the four year gap before and after her traumatic experience, which would’ve suggested hormone therapy might have contributed to her appearance.

I’ll have to take it for how I see/hear it until more is revealed, if ever.
So don't Lesbians find conventionally sexy women sexy?
Do Lesbians not like Big boobs?

I'm sorry this argument seems stupid to be considering it's not just Abby who was changed.

I mean this is who was allegedly who Dina is modelled after

It's a trend in modern gaming and I really can't believe this is actually being done to be inclusive to LGBTQ people unless they're literally the kind of people who go on about "The breeders" or who yell that female character designs are too sexy on twitter while posting gay furry muscle porn.

Sorry but it seems more of a conspiracy theory to suggest the changes to characters were done for LGBTQ people to make them feel comfortable and not you know it's a bunch of neo-puritan being neo-puritan again pushing for "modesty standards"

Those people who shame attractive femininity in video games while calling themselves feminist are sexist themselves. It's also why Lara Laura Croft is shorter and more average looking now. To be feminist would be to accept that it's fine to have bodies like Lara Croft (adjusting for the old cartoon art style) or that model above.

But... if satire means the OPPOSITE, does this mean he thinks Maneater is a shit game?
Satire doesn't mean opposite, sarcasm is opposite.

He kinda did take the coward's way out though. Very little of the game is actually a continuance of Joel and Ellie's relationship or story. You could've done this story without Joel and Ellie if you wanted to.

A recurring criticism from chuds on 4chan is not valid, i've not seen any critics that reviewed this game make any such claims about Abby. There's plenty of women built like that in real life, i've got to say you're coming off as awfully sexist here.

I'm mainly talking about commercially released products, Japan has some beyond creepy shit in their fictional media like Dear S that would NEVER in a million years be allowed in the USA.

Which said all the way back in the beginning when the sequel was first announced. That is what they should have done.
LOL no, then it would've been like every other dime-a-dozen video game sequels, i'm glad part 2 had the fucking balls to try something that very few games did.

Oh spare me the fake outrage, nobody is "Shaming attractive feminity" edgelord incel troll, go back to Kiwifarms fool.

Lara Croft got changed because her original look was frankly outdated.

You clearly don't know a goddamn thing about feminism, it's about accepting ALL body types, not JUST attractive ones.

I'm guessing you're a creepy stalker.

I'm well aware of that, but Japan is unique in that they have the youngest age of consent of any country(13, i'm not joking) and that innevitably bleeds over into their fictional media in some truly creepy ways.

Look I like a lot of anime, but i'd be lying if I said there wasn't some seriously icky stuff that made me seriously question who it was for.

This thread is not about Anita Sarkeesian. Please drop this subject.
A recurring criticism from chuds on 4chan is not valid, i've not seen any critics that reviewed this game make any such claims about Abby.

Yeh there isn't a critic review saying it........... which is even more hilarious because for fucking years we've been having stuff like "Old Lara Croft was just a man with boobs" or "[insert strong female character people like] is just a man with boobs".

Suddenly here we have Abby who both looks like and acts like a man with boobs and suddenly not a damn sound.

There's plenty of women built like that in real life, i've got to say you're coming off as awfully sexist here.
And there's plenty of women built like Quiet in real life or Dead or Alive characters but apparently they're probleatic

I'm mainly talking about commercially released products, Japan has some beyond creepy shit in their fictional media like Dear S that would NEVER in a million years be allowed in the USA.
just as a reminder Bigfoot erotica exists in the USA........... I'll say that again. Bigfoot Erotica.........Those are actual products you can buy.........

It got changed in the name of realism and complaints that she was too unrealistically different than women could look......... Except there was literally a movie with Angelina Jolie playing her and no-one went "Well she doesn't look like Lara Croft"

Also have you ever read Anita Sarkeesians Masters thesis?

It's a ride

Most of it is how the Feminine is bad character creation.

Hell if that's not enough Anita herself did a handy video on why Lego is problematic because they decided to make lines to appeal to each sex

Hell even if that's not your thing. Have an image from an alleged protest that happened many years ago outside a Hooters restaurant.

Oh and before you pull the "Creepy Stalker card" may I just say the name Matt Hickey.....

1) No it's not that's a misnomer, it used to be decades ago in some areas due to the way the laws worked but most have been superseded since by he governmental laws that mean in most areas it's 16 and in some areas 18.

2) It's not actually the youngest in the world that would be the Philippines which is 12 (according to google) Also depending on how you interpret it Saudi Arabia has no age of consent laws only that you must be married.

Sorry to say, but Part II does not have the balls you think it does. Their story was complete with nowhere else to go. Anything else afterward is a bad fan fic. Is misery piled on more mistery for little to no reason. It thinks it handles grey areas well, but it does not. Dark, brooding, and edgey thinking its deep "art" or "profound" once again. All of that sound and fury; signifying nothing. Gee, never seen that billion times before. A dime dozen misfire on what some director or execs that thinks they're inventing slices of bread. Just another edge lord crawling in the shit maggot pile.

I'm aware, but like I said before, you blew off criticism and singled out a country for nothing that has to do with the LoUs Pt. II or anything. All countries have messed up values. It is just a matter whether you bother to acknowledge, are aware, ignorant, or choose to not know, give some a pass, or act oblivious to certain countries. I am not going to throw everyone under blanket because of a few fucking pervs.

Japan’s laws are also too confusing. The penal code (which was established in 1907) uses 13yrs as a base, but the Juvenile Obscene Acts takes precedence over it and is based on individual prefectures. Since the age of adulthood is 20yrs that means it could be considered illegal to have any type of sexual relationship with someone under that age, or whatever age is set by the individual prefecture.

It's cowardly in the sense that Druckmann described as being cowardly. Only like 10% of the story actually continued on from the 1st game (which was by far the best bits). The other 90% of the story could've replaced any characters and it would've been the same. Hell, half the game was literally not Ellie and not Joel. Thus, in the sense that Druckmann himself said would be cowardly, the game was just that for the most part.
