*quietly comes out of hiding*

Not this again... As a person who "tries" to identity as a "trap" I don't find it personally offensive because its what I want to be as well as having a word I can easily describe myself with. But this feels like discourse over the anime community as a whole which is pretty common as you'd probably heard with the Uzaki-chan backlash which I'll leave at that.
Uzaki just shows the point I have been making about the anti-loli hypocrites for ages now.

People will claim "just make them COLLEGE AGED! they can look however they want, just make their little age note higher numbers, I don't mind how they look, I just find them being children mentally to be creepy".

But. When we do make them college aged, and when their appearance isn't actually childlike at all, but it's also very attractive and makes the complainers become triggered by their subconscious inferiority complex, we find out the thing that I pointed out multiple times in the past.

As it turns out, even if you make them college aged, other people, not the ones complaining about then not being college aged, but rather a separate group, one who seemingly doesn't even understand anime at all and comes into it with westerner perspectives, will start complaining and start calling people who like this:
h7ba6PE.jpg
(and for those who don't know, the woman on the right is her mother, she is in her 40s!)

as being the same as people who like this:
rokyubu-ss-character-song-best-remix-cd-439045.3.jpg

Such an environment is untenable for rational discourse. Just ignore them, don't give them any power over anything in your mind or feelings. Do like Japan does and pretend they don't exist, because for all intents and purposes as far as anime culture goes, they never did in the first place.

What is this Uzaki-chan thing?
It's what I specify in the above post. People are calling people pedos for liking the show with that girl with the SUGOI DEKAI tshirt in the above image ("Uzaki chan wa asobitai/ Uzaki chan wants to hang" out is the name of the show). But she's 19 and very explicitly a college student in the story, also doesn't look anything like a kid, she's 150cm tall which is normal short adult woman height in Japan. They're just petite over there. Also the protag is unusually tall which is why he kinda towers over her.

The real reason, btw, is that some months ago, back before the anime was even made, the Japanese Red Cross made a poster to garner up blood donations that used a cover of one of the Uzaki manga, to which a westerner reacted unfavorably on twitter, calling it sexist because Uzaki has a sinful body, apparently. The red cross at first reacted by removing the poster but then we supported them (also their blood donations fell noticeably, there was even a JP news program about this) and they reinstated it, ignoring the idiotic whiners.

This caused friction on the twitters so people have it out for that series and now that the anime is out you have bad faith actors trying to find anything at all bad to say about a very milquetoast slice of life rom-com. Their latest weapons is saying Uzaki looks like a child and the people who like the show or her are attracted to children.

Well making weebs cry is always fun, so if removing the word trap from their vocabulary makes them weep I say do it, let's make it an official hate word and why stop there?

Let's find a way to ruin tsundere, moe and uwu!

Any ideas?

I think the reddit weebs just made their own new subreddit where trap is allowed to be uttered, it's not like a curse was placed on them where if they try to say the word their hearts start to seize and they can't speak.

Damn!

Foiled by those filthy weebs, but I swear one day I will take my revenge!

By being Australia conquering the whole world and banning all anime with lolis in it, that'll teach them!

Seems like there are a lot of people that seem to just assume all anime is pedo bait or something.

I just don't know what to really say because sometimes I feel like I'm part of the problem. I do want trans people to be treated with respect but I guess people will abuse things to the point where no fun is allowed. *shrug*
That's one thing that bothers me about how the internet works, or just how these things work in general. Enough people get all in a fit about a term, phrase, or whatever else, to the point that the original word/phrase is no longer something people wanna use or it builds a negative meaning behind it. I do understand why, some terms simply become offensive to enough people to warrant the change. But those who had no issue with being called a certain thing before suddenly feel compelled to change how they identified themselves just cause everyone else doesn't like it any more.

These people get all riled up over it and make their huge stink about whatever term they don't like, but then the people that don't have issue with it don't get any say because suddenly they're the ones being offensive for not having issue with it. Words and language evolves, and I get that. But situations like the one I quoted above happen in the process, and I think that's a shitty thing to happen too

It's almost as if some people enter communities for the express purpose of changing things, just to make themselves feel powerful and in control of their otherwise powerless and out-of-control existence. If more people believed that, they wouldn't give these people an inch and tell them to go see a therapist instead.

I think we must come to the conclusion that the ease with which the internet has allowed us to create niche communities has been matched by the ease with which people people can find and attack them. It's moved the private discussions of nerds hanging out on a sofa on a Saturday afternoon while playing video-games to the "public square". I've even started to see people talking about how gatekeeping is good and should have been practiced before this stuff started, they've created the very monster they claimed they were trying to slay.

Also, if all these people getting upset about Uzaki actually legitimately gave a shit about this then they'd be talking about Eiken's, Komoe or some actual hentai.

Prolly different communities who didn't go to those threads but did go to the one that banned the term.

I mean, the word has become a very clearly transphobic thing.

Plus, it's just kind of an obnoxious concept to begin with, so I don't really see the value in trying to preserve it really.

If you wanna self-identify as a thing that exists to trick heterosexuals, then I respect your choice but I also think you need to respect yourself.

You are aware that, at the bottom of the first page, a user identifies as a trap and doesn't find the term offensive? Are you saying that this user doesn't respect himself?

Because if you aren't aware of any of that, it would make sense why you'd say such a potentially insulting thing, since you would be thinking that nobody who fits that description is around to hear it. If a tree falls in the forest, right?

But if you are aware of that, one would question why you didn't quote or @ that user directly and say it "to their face" as it were...
