How is any of this evidence that using the term or defending its use is telling people that "they aren't part of your community"?

In that video posted by kae in post 69, there's a section where a cosplayer who identifies as "line trap" was at an anime convention dressed in an female's anime-style school uniform. He lifted up his shirt to "flash" people with his male chest. The staff tried to remove the cosplayer but he told them that he was a guy, while the crowd chanted "Trap! Trap! Trap!" in support.

How is this telling the cosplayer that they aren't part of the community? This seems to be the opposite of that, especially as how this person embraced "Line Trap" as their nickname.

I guess this person, now transexual and a porn actress, is part of the problem?

If you're saying that "no, only CERTAIN trans people..." it makes you sound like a TERF.

This may sound like a shock to you, but self-identifying yourself as a term that is used as a slur is, in fact, different than someone who isn't self-identifying with that being called that. I know many trans and GNC people by virtue of being within that community because I am trans as well, some of whom do identify as traps as a way of giving a name to their identity (and, more often than not, to do sex work because it's fundamentally a marketing term for most of them). Derogatory terms that are used by specific individuals to talk about themselves are respected, but almost never used by others to describe them even if they use the term, usually defaulting to femboy as that's a more accepted term. And that's within the trans community. Outside the community, it is just a slur and a part of a culture of violence towards trans people and feminine trans people in particular.

To put it bluntly, this is one of those words that if someone uses it to describe themselves, that is allowed to be used only by them because they are making that decision, but if you are not someone who personally identifies as one, then it's one of those words that you are not allowed to say. Language is like that sometimes.

So, in other words, you're talking about a T-word pass, just like an N-word pass? If you have it, you can say it, and it's okay, but if you don't have it, you can't say it, and it's not okay?

It's like you're barging into a hip-hop clubhouse and banning use of the N-word because "you're telling black people they aren't part of your community", because "people on the outside use the word in bad ways!" - That would be ridiculous right?

Nobody is being harmed. Nobody feels excluded. Nobody is getting offended except the people that need to be outraged in order to feel pleasure.

Pretty much.

If the vast majority of people using it are white and the people asking you to not use it are black, which is the situation we're talking about here, no it wouldn't be. Trans people, both inside and outside the anime community, are asking you to not use a slur that is regularly used to invalidate their identity. This should not be a big ask.

Nobody is being harmed.
Again, we (trans people) live under a near-constant threat of violence. Making the environment more hostile to trans people by the casual use of a slur does actually harm us by making us less safe.
Nobody feels excluded.
Except trans people who don't want to deal with slurs while engaging in their preferred hobby
Nobody is getting offended except the people that need to be outraged in order to feel pleasure.
Except the people whom the word is used against both in real life and in fiction.

This is not a hypothetical to us. This is our lives, lives too often cut short because of violence that is deemed acceptable or not as serious because of who we are. Trap is used as a slur against us and no amount of trying to weasel out of that is going to change that. We just want to be able to go through a day without dealing with transphobic bullshit and engage in our preferred hobbies without being pelted with slurs even if they're not explicitly directed at us in that moment (and I say in the moment because it doesn't take long to be a target if you're out as trans, believe me).

How do you know? Have you surveyed the animemes subreddit or any other group of anime fans to see what their gender identities are? Do you know whether or not they've been given honorary T-word passes, just like a white hip-hop fan might be given an honorary N-word pass? I've given a few of the latter out myself, and we'd all laugh at you if you barged in to our space and told us to stop.

Trans people, both inside and outside the anime community, are asking you to not use a slur that is regularly used to invalidate their identity.
You mean those three bloggers you linked above? Besides that, no they aren't.

Again, we (trans people) live under a near-constant threat of violence.
You're confusing who is actually making the threats of violence.

Just like black people aren't being threatened by people from the hip-hop community, they're being threatened by actual racists, trans people are not being threatened by weebs.

You're saying that violence "outside the club" justifies banning the word "inside the club".

You want to ban the N-word inside of hip-hop groups because actual racists use the N-word outside of these groups.
And that's ridiculous. You have no argument here.

Except trans people who don't want to deal with slurs while engaging in their preferred hobby
Like all the black people who dislike the use of the N-word in hip-hop. What solution do you propose for those people? That hip-hop should be changed? That they should leave the community?

Except for your three nobody bloggers, right.

This is not a hypothetical to us. This is our lives, lives too often cut short because of violence that is deemed acceptable or not as serious because of who we are. See how silly that sounds?

I mean... can't we have nice things? The sub that banned the no-no word got nuked from orbit because people didn't like it. Do we have a responsibility to teach people what are no-no words and make them give up on it?

I had to post this for the sake of humor.

Man, that new series reboot is supposed to be a commentary about trump, but by the time my niggas roll that shit out, he's probably going to be out of office.

Yes we do. Time to go after rap next. We gotta teach those guys that the N-word is bad and that they should stop using it because they're perpetuating racism and making people feel uncomfortable. Black people just want to go about their day listening to gangsta rap without having to hear the N-word (except the ones that don't)

Most people on the internet are on the spectrum and have depression. Discussion will just go on in circles with no end in sight.

Yikes. That's sad.
Sometimes I just don't want to argue anymore, I'll tell them they're right and to get some help. Then they tell me that they have to die fighting orange man bag... sigh. Look out for your own health first, people.

I do appreciate the like you gave me, I just hope for your sake you are black. And none of that I'm 1.0 to 10% black. Hopefully your least a quarter. I don't like the use of the n word period. Either of them. I took a personal vow not to use it.

I'm 100% black, and I give everyone in this topic an N-word pass, and it's even retroactive.

But I also don't like using the word. I don't use it, and I don't like listening to rap or music with vulgar language in general. That's my personal choice of what I speak and what I deliberately put into my ears. What I don't do is demand that everyone needs to change to suit me. I don't demand that people need to stop using words. I don't barge into places and tell them to stop because I'm offended.

Because I'm nice like that.
