You'll still be able to play majority of the new games with your "old" graphics card though. Not the same with the PS4. I think its a fairly natural reaction to an expense that pops up after fairly long time periods. I'd ***** about having to buy a new car, despite getting so much use out of the old car that its falling apart. I mean, who would have a positive reaction towards the idea of having to spend more money? Regardless of justified the expense would be.
Except there are two problems with that.
First:
Some of the games have been confirmed to also be on PS4, HorizonZD2, and Mile Morales have been confirmed for PS4 as well. The Call of Duty will be on Ps4 too. And I'm sure lots of other games will be available on PS4 as well. Plus sony has confirmed that they will be supporting the PS4 for the next 3 years. So You don't have to upgrade right away.

Secondly:
Buying a new Graphics card is WAY WAY more expensive than upgrading a console. Even with the additional ten bucks per game, you could buy a PS5 and EVERY launch title and still not spend as much as a new graphics card would cost you. So you expect a LOT more life out of a top end GPU than you should out of a console. Not to mention that sometimes new GPU's require a whole computer upgrade, depending on age, so your potential cost to make a "next-gen" PC is far greater than any console. So you really can't compare them one-to-one.

Each new generation is an investment of course, and frankly the additional $10 is not that big of a deal. Very very few people buy every new release, and those people with a little bit of patience will end up waiting for a sale. How often have we seen games drop in price 4-6weeks after launch? Wait a month and buy the game on sale for $50 and you'll never even feel the hit of that extra $10 per game.

CDPR has confirmed that CyberPunk 2077 will be available on launch for Ps5 too. And also PS4 and everything else under the sun.

Just waiting for the Ps5 version of Skyrim.

So everyone's having trouble with pre-ordering PS5 now. I'd imagine the same thing will happen when it actually comes out this holiday season. I think I'll just wait for things to die down. No reason to jump into this mess. I am not quite ready to drop $500 + $70 for a Demon's Souls quite just yet. Maybe during the next round of sales.

Then again, I am also conflicted to get 3070 potentially along with upgrades on other pc parts :/

which is why i skipped this generation. i want the best optimal experience in one machine.
That will never happen. You'll always be behind in some way. I don't really see the benefit of waiting because you will miss shit from previous generations always. Play what you want, again a Ps4 and even a digital Ps5 isn't that expensive. All things considered.

I wonder if we will get remasters of ps4 games.
They already started. The Ultimate Edition of the Miles Morales game includes a download code for the remaster of the PS4 Spider-Man

It's also only $40 and expected to be a 10-20hour experience. It's not a sequel and was never labeled as such. It's like a stand alone expansion pack similar to what Far Cry has been doing.

They can make the game look prettier and add a ton of graphic details and lighting effects but dynamic damage models is really on another level. Technically that was already possible this gen but the only studios to pull it off were Rockstar and Naughty Dog with respectively RDR2 and TLoU2. Both games were in development for like seven years and had hundreds if not thousands of people working on these kind of animations. RE2 Remake zombie dismemberment was also on another level, just as the visible knife slashes on Jack Baker in RE7, but you're talking two enemy types here in fairly static encounters. Having this translated to a game like DeS with it's zoo of monsters and different enemy types and flexible encounters I wouldn't know how many resources or manpower has to be put in to have dynamic damage models and reactive animations on them. Some games have even taken a step back if you compare the physics model of GTA4 with GTA5 or Far Cry 2 with FC3, 4, 5 etc. At one point a choice has to be made between graphic fidelity and physics/damage models. And pretty graphics are just more of a crowd pleaser. Probably also the reason why enemy A.I. seems to have never really advanced beyond a certain level.

I would definitely love realistic damage models as well. One of the reasons RE4 remains one of my most favorite games is because the damage model and particle effects still haven't really been surpassed. But with the almost photo realistic graphics I think the most realistic expectation for next-gen is prettier and better looking without sinking the framerate. Unless you're a studio with infinite resources and the better part of a decade of development time I don't think it's really possible to have dynamic damage models. And even then it's still pretty limited.

It could be faked a bit if needed and that would at least be a start; hell there’s a few older games that already do that as Critical said. It just seems if they can make materials-based rendering systems that have any number of textures dynamically react to various light sources then it doesn’t seem like a stretch for character models to have a bit of that based on attack types if nothing else. I’m not saying it has to be pinpoint accurate but at least give the impression that x attack did y damage type to the model. Fighting games have also been doing this for generations now.

Good for me, and thanks for the info. Not everygame has to be 40+ hours @Gergar12. It's why I don't bother with super long RPGS, the crap Ubisoft sells, and most open world games. Don't have time for it; especially when it is full of senseless padding.

Wasn't even sure if I wanted to respond to the posts a few pages ago about digitally downloaded games when I wrote this yesterday, but until bandwidth caps mostly disappear in the USA, I'll keep getting what I can physically. Don't wanna have to think about or check how much I've downloaded in a month. I'm not that confident in Sony's security anyway. Someone stole my PS3 account. I do download everything on PC, my main platform, but it's mostly because I don't have a choice and DRM is so much stricter with physical games there anyway and the gaming community rejected Blu-ray. (Who wants to install seven DVDs to play one game?) I also haven't gotten any of my PC accounts stolen yet.

I personally like having the physical box on my shelf. So I avoid Digital purchases when physical copies are available. So I'll be getting the disc drive version of the system, because I like having the feeling of physically collecting things.

Some people don't give a shit about that. Some people play a game and delete it when finished and that's fine. I'm just on one of them.

PC Gamers didn't kill physical media. Stores stopped allowing you to return, exchange, or resell games PC games, and publishers started making PC games have 1 time use keys so you couldn't trade them to other people. There stopped being any kind of tangible benefit to having physical PC games if you can't do anything with the disk after installing the game once.
Ah, I did forget about the one-time use codes.

I’m hoping I’m wrong and this was all just early footage shown purely for demonstration, but it really feels like a rough draft in terms of combat. I know this is really early next gen but I feel like Demon’s Souls kinda seems a little off. From the footage I can get a sense of how it plays, and I like the little grunts and melee animations, but I think they could’ve dove a bit deeper. Maybe it’s expecting too much from essentially a port/remake developer, or I’m being too critical being a huge fan with hundreds of hours in the original and wanting this update to be perfect.
I think the goal Bluepoint has with these type of games is doing a graphics overhaul and nothing else. Shadow of the Colossus remake feels like Shadow of the Colossus in every respect, it just looks a lot better obviously. I'd expect Bluepoint is doing the same with Demons Souls, not wanting to change the game whatsoever outside of doing a graphical overhaul. I wouldn't be surprised if anything does get changed, Bluepoint directly asked From if it was OK or asked From what they would change about Demons.

I also wouldn't expect AAA devs doing much to actually improve games outside of graphics like @stroopwafel cited older games doing things better than current games. AA devs and indies are literally pushing games more than AAA devs.

No fucking duh on microsoft. That's not the point. Right now they're both being arrogant assholes. With Nintendo not that far behind us certain aspects. If you stop adding all the other stuff that's not the main point. Doesn't matter end of the discussion for me.
If you wanna rate the Big 3 on arrogance objectively (looking at everything every one of them has done), Sony is quite a bit behind the other 2 with Nintendo competing with Microsoft for most arrogant. Hell, if it wasn't for the whole Xbone debacle, a case could easily be made for Nintendo being even worse than Microsoft. People don't realize how bad Nintendo actually is as they get "passes" for like everything as the recent Escapist Show even pointed out.

I'm quickly running out of space, more because of my movies, and my apartment doesn't have much room for another bookcase. I wish game packages were much smaller if they're not even gonna include manuals. Movie packages too.

Which stands to reason, as Nintendo is virtually the Disney of the videogame industry.

I feel that. I'm running out of room myself, but I never had much room to begin with. I actually regret my childhood where I gave away my previous gen shit to my cousins every time I upgraded. I would have loved to still have my NES, SNES, Ps1/2/3 collections still around.
