Honestly, the playstation and xbox are basically the same thing. They both can play the same high power games, but one of them just happens to have worthwhile exclusives.
Yep. That's why I've been sticking with Sony & Nintendo. Plus, Japanese gaming is in my heart.

Demon's Souls as a launch title: Yes. All of this. In my face. Brbrbrbrbrbr.

Game prices going up during a worldwide recession: ...Screw everyone involved in this decision.

Still don't know the PS4 backwards compatibility list: As much as I want to play DeS, and kinda Miles Morales as well, I don't intend to get a PS5 until it can play enough of my PS4 games as well that I don't need to feel bad about it replacing my PS4.

Demon's Souls on PC, maybe?: Apparently this was a case of 'whoops, how did that get in there?' Oh well.

Okay, now I REALLY believe Demon's Souls is coming to PC.

When pressed on whether Demon's Souls is actually a lifetime exclusive to the console or a timed exclusive like Death Stranding, Sony declined to elaborate further, reiterating "Demon’s Souls is exclusive to PlayStation 5."

Don't see them making this kind of mistake unless it was true anyway.

Which is nice, because it's the one PS5 game I wanted, and I wasn't going to pay a subscription (PSN) for all its features. I played Bloodborne alone.

They'll be $70 or 80 EUR, despite the fact that it should be cheaper in EUR.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm out. They can go fuck themselves. Price increase and an undoubtedly greater focus on microtransactions. I'm not a fuckin' idiot who's willing to bend over for a bunch of billionaires for whom no amount of money is ever enough.

Oh, and let's not forget that they decided to do this in a year of economic collapse when millions of people have lost their jobs. They should be beaten to an inch of their life for this type of greed.

FTR I remember paying $80 for Turok 2: Seeds of Evil and KI Gold on N64 well over 2 decades ago.

You know what is more off-putting than a $70 - keep forever videogame that will be half price anyways if people wait for a sale? Paying $100+ every damn month for stupid cell phone service that I'll never own, which no one raises half the stink over. Let's not even get into $1000 iphones or Androids ever few years.

But the game industry really wants to get to the point where you own nothing and pay subscription services to play your games, which can be taken away at any time for any reason.

There's still a disc version of the PS5 that I'll throw down for when the time/price is right. I would hope, that with the amount of bitching consumers do about things not working correctly until they do, that that would continue to be the case the day videogames make the complete shift from product to service. Otherwise, there's more than enough current (and likely upcoming) games that I still haven't played to enjoy instead of that bs.

Not now; don't care. Not in the mood for the boardgame speeches. Fucking save it! I rarely even touch boardgames anymore. I did mention on other threads that my main focus will be on AA or and smaller games mostly, but I will still callout the bullshit in AAA industry. There is no other reason than fuck, you give us more money for our price hike. Or "video games are too expensive to make!" It's, the PS3 all over again. Do this in an economic recession. I guess Kun Lan was right in some ways.
It has nothing to do with board games, try bowling or golfing or Magic or whatever type of games you like, they're all more expensive than video games. Going to 2 movies a month is more expensive than video games (and that's only ~4 hours of entertainment/month). Going to you're local watering hole once a week is more expensive than video games. And video game prices have been going down ever since I was a kid, a 16% increase isn't a "fuck you". Same thing with the hardware too, try finding JUST a video card that gives you similar PS5/Xbox performance at the $500 price point, then you still have to buy everything else to boot.

I only pay $15/month for cell phone service from T-Mobile. I even splurged a bit buying a $180 Moto G8 Power (the specs it has are unbeatable at that price) because I dropped down from paying $30/month at MetroPCS (the savings in the monthly rate pays for the phone in a year basically). I even made a thread in the old forums about people's obsession with expensive phones. I upgraded my desktop, bought a new laptop and new phone this year for the price (somewhere between $1100-$1200 for all three) some people pay for a flagship phone or video card or a laptop.

@Phoenixmgs Read me clearly:

I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ANY OF THAT! IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT! THOSE OTHER HOBBIES HAVE NOTHING TO WITH ANYTHING! IT'S ABOUT FLIMSY, UNJUSTIFIED, AND STUPID PRICE INCREASE IN A TIME OF DISASTER AND ANOTHER ECONOMIC RECESSION! SONY IS GETTING ARROGANT AGAIN AND MAKING THE SAME MISTAKES THEY DID BACK IN 2006!

Get it? Fuck the whataboutism and other hobbies that have nothing to do with gaming! I don't like Magic or other card games. I bowl occasionally (until COVID fucked that up), but prefer when it celebrating with friends or family. Do not bother adding anything else, because zero fucks are given.

Bluepoint really are the MVPs of Sony between remastering the God of War/Metal Gear Solid/Uncharted/Gravity Rush games and remaking Shadow of the Colossus and now Demon's Souls.

You do realize Microsoft was way more arrogant with the 360 than Sony was with the PS3. The main reason why PS3s were expensive was the blu-ray drive (partly Microsoft's fault actually, no lie), which you can call arrogance on that a bit because I'm sure Sony was using PS3 as a Trojan horse for blu-ray like the PS2 for DVD, but blu-ray is far better than DVD for storage (equaling better audio for PS3 games), ability to watch movies, and scratch resistance on the discs. Outside of that, Sony sold you a console with a hard drive, wi-fi, and a HDMI port, which the 360 didn't have. Microsoft charged an exorbitant amount for both wi-fi and hard drive add-ons that you could ONLY BUY FROM THEM. Microsoft, the one company of the big 3 that actually makes their own internet browser obviously, didn't put an internet browser on the 360 so they could control everything you do on the internet and charge you for it while even Nintendo, the company that seems like they don't even understand the Internet, put Opera on the Wii. Wanna use Facebook, you gotta pay for Xbox Gold. Wanna watch Netflix that you pay Netflix for, you gotta pay Microsoft for some reason (and still do). PS3 had free multiplayer gaming, 360 didn't. Oh, and PS3s didn't break like once a month like 360s, which Microsoft knew about before even selling them. Sony "arrogance" during the PS3 generation is so overblown, it's not even funny.

What single mistake is Sony even repeating from 2006 as their main mistake from then was using blu-ray drives one gen too early and over doing the R&D on the cell processor? For PS5, they're using standard x86 architecture with AMD chips and still using blu-ray drives. PS5's big thing is the SSD for this gen but console gaming really needs SSDs at this point and the competition is doing the same as well. The price point for games going up isn't a Sony only thing and will probably make it's way to PC gaming as well. Hell, Nintendo's whole "our games never go on sale" thing cost consumers more money than this will. Mario Kart on the Switch is basically the WiiU version and it still cost $60 today.

I legit wonder if they are making it diskless to combat Gamefly and other types of sharing options. I legit don't get who'd prefer that even at a discount. Either way, FFXVI is still faaaaar away so I'll hold off on this for a while more now.

More and more people are digitally buying games nowadays. It's going to be the consumers that kill physical copies and the 2nd hand market just like PC gamers killed physical media there.

PC Gamers didn't kill physical media. Stores stopped allowing you to return, exchange, or resell games PC games, and publishers started making PC games have 1 time use keys so you couldn't trade them to other people. There stopped being any kind of tangible benefit to having physical PC games if you can't do anything with the disk after installing the game once.

Pre-ordered the digital edition. Really can't wait to play DeS remake. Can't believe it's actually a launch title. This and Cyberpunk in the same month. Gonna be good!

Well, Horizon: Forbidden West and Spider-Man: Miles Morelas are coming to PS4. And Sackboy.

So there is no need for me to buy a PS5 for at least 2 to 3 years after launch. Not that I was buying it at launch anyway. Sure I expect these games to not run quite as well on PS4 as they do on PS5, but I don't expect them to look or run like shit. I can wait for the price to drop on the console, I'm not paying £450 just because I refuse to buy into the whole digital only future. And everyone can fuck off with these £70 games. Sure, the price hasn't risen is however long and games cost more in the past. But the industry never had microtransactions or DLC or subscription services back then either. These companies are hardly going broke are they?

I think that while more people buy games digitally, virtually nobody buys digital games exclusively, which is the key nuance here in my estimation.

I too buy most stuff digitally since they have a million sales, but I still get a couple of things physical too, sometimes due to the LE having nice goodies, or there being cool physical preorder stuff like the upcoming free artbook that's coming together with 13 Sentinels for no extra charge.

This looks like a push for gaming to go in that direction more so than a response to gaming being there already, and that's a push I do not understand.

Given how much of my library is digital nowadays, I'd probably go with the digital only anyhow, unless they do the same dumb**** MKicrosoft did and also give the digital only one a smaller storage drive (Because that makes logical sense of course), which they haven't actually included the storage in their specs even on the officla Playstation sources.

But yeah, the last remaining vestiges of disks I have are Monster Hunter (which is basically just obsolete now because the disk doesn't have the 18 odd content updates or Iceborne, and my review copy of No Mans Sky (for much the same reason, the disk is largely obsolete, as there's been 4 expansions and like 20 DLC packs on that at this point, it's like 1/10th of the game package. I think we already hit this gen where the games were bigger then the disks anyways for your big shiny Rockstars and et al. So its literally just a fancy box for a download key.

For all the F*** AAA attitude, I dunno why people are even concerned about the disks, most of the non-AAA stuff doesn't even get disk releases now (or gets them way later based on cult following from a digital release).

Price point, I mean, Canada didn't even get included, insofar as I know we were already at the corresponding price points best I can tell (again, I'm heavily in the AA space a lot of the time)..

Nothing super-jumps out for the launch lineup. Godfall wasn't in the event and thats probably the best looking of it, and thats even a "Wait and see" approach. Deathloop maybe, but I don't have full confidence in Arkane moving even moreso into shooting (nor has Arkane's post-Dishonored output been outsanding for me, with Prey being a solid meh, and there other involvement in the horrid mess that was Wolfenstein : Youngblood). Destruction whatever seems like a good candidate for the early PSPlus freebie anyhow. Maybe Final Fantasy will get out of its nonsensical rut with the director change, but thats also an even more definitive wait and see. And Spider MAn which is a solid discount option is gonna be on PS4 anyways.

There's tons of AA Japanese stuff that gets physical releases on release date out there actually. Tons of Jrpgs and fighting games and random sprite animated stuff.

Fuck it, gonna ***** about that price hike some more. That 80 euros? Fuck you, for effectively making us pay $15-20 more when taking exchange rates and sales tax into account, just because we so happen to not live in the US. Can't imagine what the rest of the world get to look forward to, like the Aussies. And Latin America is no doubt completely shafted.

It's fine tho. I got my monthly €60 games budget and I'll be sticking to it. Meanwhile, PS5 is going on the backburner for at least 3-4 years and that €500 is going towards pc upgrades.

I really need to start living life more instead of this addictive past-time. Can't let this coping mechanism for the multitude of anxieties swallow the rest of the dwindling time and money any more than it already has.
