I actually found Doom Eternal to be significantly easier than Doom 2016 because of all the available mobility options. It's just so much easier to dodge around and not get cornered. Of course those same mobility options probably make it much more difficult to play on a controller because you have to wildly spin around to shoot things mid-air quite often.

Also, I agree, I hated seeing Doom Slayer's arms. I got the Doom 1 suit as soon as I could to cover up the gross flesh bits.
Eternal has some very specific bits in it where there's a clusterfuck of enemies and you can die super fast but yeah, if you equip the mobility runes and the time freeze/survive at 1hp ones the game is very much easier. I am very inexperienced with FPS games (have played maybe 4 of em in the last decade and a half if you don't count fallout) but I played it on hard mode and while I did die a bunch it never felt that hard, I was just doing something wrong as opposed to not being completely perfect at everything. Every enemy has a very glaring weakness that you can exploit to defeat them super efficiently.

Gave GameDec's Demo another shot. Managed to complete it this time. It's a little better then I gave it credit for. There's a conversation system where you have a little tracker to help you gauge how close you are to gaining the trust of the person you are interrogating and the trick is the figure out how to get them to open up based on their response to your answers and questions. I know it's been done before but it's an interesting mechanic and unlike say mass effect, it's not just "PIck the Blue/Red choice if available and it's possible to fail if you make enough wrong choices because you didn't pay attention.

The last part of the demo involves going into an online game to help get someone out of it(who IRL is essentially dead to the world while playing the game through a neural link). However, the game then tells you that you have 2 minutes before the demo ends and a little countdown start on the top of the screen. Considering this a game built around investigations and conversations and you just entered a brand new area, giving you a two minute time limit feels like a dick move on the demos part because you don't have nearly enough time to get a feel for what's going on. You could easily eat up 2 minutes in one conversation or try to rush things, which isn't the kind of game this is supposed to be.

Still an interesting idea but seriously questioning the implementation of a 2 min time limit at the end there with no justification why.

But GoT loads so fast!

Really though, I can’t even get myself to trudge through Infamous: SS and I loved the original game enough to Platinum it. Played the sequel nearly as much but I liked the Festival of Blood even more. As a stand alone DLC it was one of the better buy’s, and I liked the premise of racing for a cure as it stripped away some of the more tedious open world design aspects and gave the main focus more urgency. It also managed to not feel like I was being rushed, which was appreciated.

But SS...ugh. Guess I’m feeling fatigue of that game type too, but it really feels like they doubled down on the worst open world tropes of icon chasing, collecting, and clearing territories that I’m having a tough time staying interested. Maybe I should play as evil Delsin for more of an amusement factor, because for as much crap they littered the map with the game objectives ultimately feel pretty copy&paste-dead anyways.

Donut County sounds like it could be a fun jaunt though. Reminds me of one of those fuckabout games like Pain on PS3. Will put it on my watch list for a price drop.
To be fair, Infamous: Second Son is no slouch in the loading times either. If there is one thing Sucker Punch know how to do, its make their games load quickly:)

I am not claiming Second Son is a perfect game, there are certainly aspects of it that really annoy me, like trying to find the hidden secret agent. But I thought I'd finish my evil Delsin to see how that goes and get the platinum while I'm at it and I'm having fun with it.

Donut County was on sale on PS4 a couple of weeks ago, not sure if it still is.

Replayed Mario 64, & played Mario Sunshine for the first time, both in the Mario 3D All-Stars collection. Sunshine was a lot of fun, though there's very little diversity in the worlds: I got tired of beach locales and wished they mixed it up a bit more.

Also gone back to Guild Wars 2, and am trying to get through each raid at least once.

How's the emulation? I've heard mixed things about 64's and Sunshine's, but Galaxy's is supposed to be really good. I know you haven't played that one yet, but how did you find the other two?

I bought Guild Wars 2 a million years ago, uninstalled it after not giving it enough of a shot. Long story short, just reinstalled it last night to give it another shot. I did hate that I couldn't start it without these huge multi gig updates that felt like they happened every time I started it.

Metamorphosis by Ovid Works.

If you ask the average person about Franz Kafka, they might mention something about a man who turns into a bug, if they know the name at all. So it's no surprise that whenever something draws inspiration from him, it's normally a reference to the plot of the Metamorphosis, the story about Gregor Samsa, who wakes up as a man-sized bug for no apparent reason. However, this game uses that as a jumping off point to incorporate Kafka's other notable works, such as The Trial and The Castle.

The game begins with a surreal nightmarish sequence where Gregor, the PC, wakes up in an unfamiliar room and trying to leave for work, finds himself traversing a series of increasingly bizarre rooms and hallways, unaware he's slowly getting smaller and turning into a bug. A series of cryptic notes points him towards THE TOWER, where he can possibly become human again, and the rest of the game involves a journey across an increasingly weird and unhinged series of environments in the apartment building but also a fantastical bug society hidden in the walls and floors. In the meantime, Gregors journey as a bug has him bear witness to a parallel story of Joseph K, Gregors friend, who is under arrest for an unspecified and unknown crime, which is pulled straight from The Trial. Gregor can't directly interact with this due to the scale(though there are some things he can influence), and Joseph never notices the now insectoid Gregor. What it does play out as is Gregor traverse a room where everything(including the humans) are enormous in comparison and that plot is unfolding as a form of background narration to accompany the platforming and traversal.

Gameplay is pretty basic. As a bug you can climb, jump and move and occasionally make other things move by standing on them. There are sticky substances you can walk through and gain a limited supply of....stickiness that can be used to climb vertical surfaces, but the pools you walk through are infinite and it's easy enough to go to the nearest source if you run out. A vast majority of the challenge involves figuring out where to go and how to get there, but the game does have a built in "Map" that gives a birds eye view of the current area and gives you your current objective and where to go(you'll sometimes see glowing symbols to help as well). The game is actually fairly linear so it's hard to get lost for too long and you can generally only move forward, which avoids tedious long backtracking.

Ironically, the general plot of Gregor's journey to the tower involves him getting shuffled through a bunch of goals(short term goals) given to him by other bugs(who are implied to have also been human as well), of "Chain of deals" kind, where Bug A want you to do Action B for him you need something from Location C first. It's annoying but at the same time the linearity of the game makes it a lot less annoying then it could be, because you'll always end up where you need to go next by following the path. The obnoxious bureaucracy does feel fitting thematic because Kafka's works often entail meaningless red tape that serves no real purpose but you have to do it because that's all part of a vast machine that runs of its own accord(fittingly you'll have to weave your way through laybtihs of pipes and valves and wires and such along the way). You can easily die, but sometimes deaths are basically "You fell into an area you wouldn't be able to get out of" and then you're instantly taken back to the last checkpoint(and these are fairly reasonably spaced and autosaved).

The atmosphere is appropriately surreal, much like the mans writing, though the bugs you meet only kind of work in this regard. As mentioned before, it's implied they were all human like yourself once and everyone knows of the tower but everyone else has either given up trying to get there or has become stuck along their journey, so you have pockets of a bug society, such a town built around a film projector out of discarding cans and buildings made of pieces of scrap wood with creepy soviet-eqse propaganda films shown on a regular basis, posters with art deco bug people imploring "DUTY" and a 1930's style nightclub built into a gramophone(An old-timey record player). However, beyond that, nobody really seems to care much about their seemingly permanent transformation, so then you have the weirdness of being solicited by bug prostitutes(wierd and disturbing, because they're trying to use the sexy body language on you, despite the whole insect thing) and a mad preacher who has a region for every type of insect(though all the ones in the game look pretty similar). I also appreciated how Gregors voice starts as normal human, gets more and more creepy as he becomes a bug and eventually turns into a gutteral incomprehensible alien bug talk the rest speak.

In the end, the whole thing kind of does come together in a way that feels appropriate if not particularly happy. The devs appreciation of the subject matter is on display here(though it feels like knowledge of The Trial helps a bit understanding what's going on), with some nods to the banality of evil and dehumanization in an industrialized society. It's also just about 3 hours long, so it doesn't overstay it's welcome. However, how much someone actually likes it will depend a lot on two things. Are you interested in playing a 3d surreal platformer where you're an insect and do you appreciate Kafka(or think you would)? Because if you do, this game would probably work for you. If only one or neither of these are true, you'll likely want to give it a pass.

I got Mario 3D All-Stars, and I tried to play Mario 64... Jesus, does that game play like shit, I could barely sit through 5 minutes of it. Can anyone tell me what's worth suffering through these awful controls when I can just play Galaxy instead?

Started playing Fallout 4 again last night. Going for a ninja/melee build. I was inspired to load it back up after watching Many A True Nerd's recent video

And, due to me watching multiple videos from gainjin goomba, about historical ninjas and their accuracy in gaming/media, I decided to try and replicate them as closely as I could. So I plan on focusing on stealth melee kills, using that air rifle syringe gun to replicate using a blowgun, EXPLOSIVES!!, getting Aquaboy to replicate them using reeds to breath underwater, and high charisma to charm my way past defenses when applicable. And some other details I'm sure I'm forgetting at this moment. I think it will be fun, as I've never done melee in FO 4. I've done the stealth sniper, as that's pretty much my default. But I'm curious how well the stealth melee kills will work long term.

I watched his video, I feel like he front loaded every positive thing about fallout 4, his next video might be very negative since he'll have to tackle most of the downside (poor conversation system, non nonsensical main plot, terrible faction outside BoS and so on). But I do think fallout 4 is quite a fun game, it's just a poor fallout game.

Melee is really strong in FO4 since you can use vats to teleport to enemy a surprisingly long distance.

Enjoy. I think I'm going to stop at Speed Brawl for now. I'm at a stopping point and there are certain challenges you need to do to progress the story and they are not fun. There are certain pole races that are just unfair. Which sucks because I dig the art style and characters. So these challenges are not really "optional" at all. I might finally pop in Travis Strikes again tonight or most likely tomorrow since I'll be off that day. Other than that, I've been playing some DMC 5 in preparation for Vergil.

Yes he did front load most of the good stuff, but that's also the entire point of the video. Jon has stated multiple times in his videos (usually the live streams) that he tends to focus on the positive things when he is critiquing a game. That he doesn't LIKE being a negative shit talker. He will call out games when they do stuff wrong, just watch his video about how FO 76 failed to see evidence. But I mean, his entire viewpoint is one of a more positive opinion on the things that others love to shit on like it's a festering pile of goo. And since he doesn't see them that way, yeah is videos aren't going to lean that way in their tone.

I personally disagree that FO4 is a poor fallout game, I think it's a perfectly good one. But, I also hate New Vegas, and find it to be a boring pile of shit that gets WAY more hype than it deserves.

And yeah I've seen Jon's playthrough as a melee fighter (His warrior woman Bacon), and yeah, the teleporting perk Blitz is first on my list to pick up. I think it fits my theme of going for a ninja, and the tropey teleporting dash strike they often can do in anime.

It's why I like people like CinemaWins, Omega Sphere, White light, ExoParadigmGamer, & Rayveick. They mostly focus on the positives and try not to be overly negative or just use it as a crutch.

CinemaSins go fuck himself, and has become nothing more than a man blaming his shortcomings on other things or people, and claim it as satire.

GamingBrit is trying to be more positive, but there's no guaranteed where he won't go full negative on something undeservedly or not. Some of that negativity he brought to himself. Hopefully, he's learned to calm down a bit more.

Yeah CinemaWins is fun. I do watch his videos regularly. I loved his reaction to the bridge fight scene in Thor: Ragnarok. The incomprehensible giggling as he just smashes that Win button of his. I do appreciate that sometimes he is struggling to say good things about some movies that he just really didn't like. And while I don't always agree, I also don't really care if someone enjoys something I hate, or vice versa.

Haven't watched Sins in a while.

The emulation was absolutely fine: visually 64 & Sunshine both look clean & sharp and run perfectly smoothly.

The ports include all the stuff that was clunky in the original, though. The camera in 64 is still awful. And though Sunshine is in widescreen, 64 isn't.

I bought Guild Wars 2 a million years ago, uninstalled it after not giving it enough of a shot. Long story short, just reinstalled it last night to give it another shot. I did hate that I couldn't start it without these huge multi gig updates that felt like they happened every time I started it.
A great deal has changed in the past few years, including a lot of quality-of-life stuff. It should be a less clunky experience. Let me know how you get on, because I love that game (and the original).

And if you've got the expansions, Path of Fire is greatly superior to Heart of Thorns. Greatly superior.

According to UPS, 13 Sentinels will finally be delivered today, preordered it almost 5 months ago but it took em 8 days lmao.

But alas, 8 days is nothing compared to the 3-4 years I've waited since I learned of Vanillaware making this game. Finally the wait is over. Let us go blow up some Kaijuu with gorgeous sprite artwork!

I'm about halfway and man the story is so good. It's like every detail has been meticulously placed there for a reason. Can't wait to see where it goes. Just like the artwork the game is a hand crafted labor of love. I love all the 80s hommages as well. This might be one of my favorite games of the year.

Well very few people criticized FO4 on the stuff that he's praising it in that video, so its not really addressing the point of "how is fallout 4 better than we think". Like for example, I'm playing left alive at the moment. The game got massively shat on at release, but there's actually a bunch of cool stuff in it. You're not a super soldier so you have to sneak around because otherwise you easily get killed by the enemy that are really strong and numerous. Enemy react to your action and if you cause a lot of trouble in an area they'll increase patrol around it. You spend most of the time crawling around being scared of getting caught, but every once in awhile you get to pilot a massive mech and get to gleefully mow down the enemy that you previously had to avoid. The story draw on previous entry in front mission to give a lot of backstory into the world. You play in these pretty big level that are open and can explore for loot and pick your own route trough.

All that sounds pretty good, right? But the thing is that's the positive aspect and all of it goes to hell because of everything else. The control are pretty bad with a clunky interface. Turn out the enemy soldier aren't dangerous, they're just super tanky and only because gun damage drop off with distance is insane, if you actually just roll toward the enemy and just shoot them point blank they go down really quickly. And you're actually really tanky so nothing stop you from just running to your destination and ignoring stealth, anyway enemy are so poorly perceptive most of the time you're half way there when they spot you. The levels get re use a ton and exploring them is almost pointless, all the good loot is found at save point which are marked on the map. Otherwise you just get junk that you can use to craft stuff (grenade, trap, molotov cocktail) but those only slightly tickle the enemy and aren't worth using, so exploration is pointless. Most of the content actually involves escorting NPC to shelter, but you can't pick their route and they're suicidal so they'll just walk up to enemy tank and then just curl up in a ball and let themselves get killed. You just end up having to clear up all the enemy to your destination anyway, making the stealth aspect pointless (you can't do silent takedown and silent weapon don't kill enemy in one shoot, ensuring you get found). By just focusing on the positive in trying to make a point about something being good, you really miss the point.

*shrugs* He says he has seen these criticisms multiple times, and that's why he is directly addressing them. And given how much research he puts into them, I'm fairly confident that he is actually finding criticisms that people put forth to justify them saying the game is bad.
