That does not sound like ACG. So this is surprising. I don't watch every single one of his videos, and everybody has their own complaints, but he is not the most whining person I've ever seen on the internet. Especially when it comes to gaming. See Simmons from YoVideoGames. Sorry that happened to you. I'm not making excuses for the guy, but I am going to assume he was either having a bad day or stress. Let me know if you ever find that video.

I'll say the same thing I did back then: "oh my god, who the hell cares?!". That was my response to those idiots. Y'all got through the game or we're getting through the game fairly, so why does it matter? The person doing the cheating obviously didn't care.
Yeah it was really weird, cause before that I tended to watch all his stuff and he seemed really chill. If he was one of those over react types then I wouldn't care but for him to suddenly go off on a pretty nothing thing. Very weird.

Yeah it was the dumbest non issue. Gamers have this weird gate keeping thing going on, to be fair most groups do, remember the 'fake nerd girl' thing from awhile back? Its really weird how we tend to demand credentials from people who we think fall outside of the demographic that enjoy our favorite entertainment.

Admittedly some of those "fake gamer girls" became cam-girls on twitch.

And today we have games being censored by moral busybodies attempting to please to people who will never buy their games no matter how much skin is covered up.

Back then, we didn't gatekeep hard enough.

'we'? Are you a dev?
The community may have been gatekeeping, moreso before 2014, but the devs were mostly open to this change.

I mean "we" as in the gaming community that would be asking "fake geek girls" for their credentials.
Maybe if the community gatekept harder, the devs wouldn't be as open to the idea.

I didn't give money to Tropes vs. Women patreon, mate. Did you? It happened regardless of our disapproval. Plus, the devs aren't often connected to what the general player-base wants.

If I may speculate for a moment, I think the point where the community messed up was when they let themselves be mocked by "fake geek girl" stuff. That phrase exists because the (gaming) media used it as a criticism against gamers who would exclude such people from their spaces. The community shouldn't have let this happen. The community should have done more to point out the REAL harm that would be done to the hobby.

Now it's too late.

But we didn't know the future, and we were only a small part of the cultural shift that was to come.
We just... didn't know.

It is funny because this could also be applies to gaming journalists who write articles that dont know what the fuck they're talking. Demanding easy modes or writing shit talk about how gaming is gatekeeping the marginalized or whatever else.

As if trying to hold the games media to a higher standard is something more of us should be trying to do to keep their bias from painting the wrong image of the hobby as a whole.

While it may only be showcased heavily on a souls game. The implication these articles push out is that gaming in general is too difficult and only crazy nerds can ever get through them or find enjoyment with them. Thus possibly pushing people away from games they might actually end up really enjoying or even pushing them away from the hobby in general.

It isnt just bitching. There is a potential danger to letting these people write whatever fucking trash article they want with no checks and balances.

They're mostly communications and journalism graduates that got networked into the field and aren't very familiar with games. Friends bring their friends, etc., entirely natural. It's also why youtube independent streamers picked up listeners - like TotalBiscuit (rest in peace) and ACG.

Are you serious? Ok, so try to remember the 90s and how much censorship was going on then, none of that is going on now, we have active porn games available on steam and the moral outrage against them comes from mgtow/incel idiots, same as those that like to report cam girls to the irs and such. Back in the 90s we had congressional hearings about games and censorship and such. Now its people questioning weird outfit choices in otherwise serious games. Back in the 90s Nintendo censored a lot of stuff, from drinking to religion to sex discussion. They were determined to be a safe for everyone company. For all the idiot anti-sjws out there who think everything is being censored, much much less is and those people they like to rail about, don't care.

Good point, I agree.
I wish more media outlets would call out other "journalists" like this.

Right about what? No part of being a gamer means you can't do cam shows, also I'm pretty sure twitch is pretty harsh on sexual streamers at the moment.

I was very young during the 90s, and I definitely wasn't "awake" to media censorship, unless you're talking about Jack Thompson, so I don't know what you're talking about.

we have active porn games available on steam
That's funny, because Steam is wildly inconsistent, and will censor anime-looking games that have girls in school uniforms, regardless of any adult content, because they automatically think that means "UNDERAGE!"

For example, see the quote at the end of this link
If we've gone one step forward, we've gone two steps back

But the worst part of it all isn't from platforms being a cause of censorship, the worst part of it is the twitter outrage mob and the few individuals who get "localization" and "diversity consultant" jobs and who are either blackmailed or influenced by the twitter mob. That does more damage than Steam deciding not to put a game on their storefront.

Well, I gave you examples of how draconian Nintendo was with their policies back in the 90s, really it wasn't till they released a the snes version of Mortal Kombat with the bloody fatalities removed and blood replaced by sweat that they got enough outrage to back off and Mortal Kombat 2 on the snes was the best home version for the time. That isn't even mentioning the congressional hearings from Lieberman and such that ended up with the ESRB rating system as a means to avoid actual government censorship.

Steam will tend to err on the safe side against underage looking characters, mostly. But they allow some very explicit porn games on their platform, Cloud Meadow, Princess & Conquest, Tower & Sword of Succubus to name a few. They aren't perfect with it but considering such things have never been allowed on a major platform in the states, welcome to progress. I have seen very little outrage mob and more outraged people complaining about the outrage mob that they are sure exists.

Remember the non-issue over Tracers butt and how the anti-sjws crowed freaked the fuck out about Blizzard changing a pose? Pepperidge farm remembers.

Because the usual outraged suspects don't pay attention that closely to the gaming community, since they aren't Real Gamers™
These games aren't advertised, and don't even show up unless you opt-in to see them.

Instead they hang around E3 and the other major trade shows, bemoaning how all the protags are white males, and too many guns, and not enough black and trans people.
Which is exactly the kind of behavior one would expect. These people only have surface-level knowledge of the most popularized things.

It sounds like they aren't really a thing then. Like you are inflating them and their influence. I mean if someone wants to say, why not have more diverse characters, guess what, that isn't a problem and we have gotten much more diverse characters in gaming, which is neat.

I don't like modern diversity. I like stuff like The Descent (2005), Alien, Terminator 1&2. These are movies with good female casts and roles. Nowadays you get movies with full female cast like Ghost Busters and it's a total flop. No substance, only declarations of virtue.

Except that the Ghost Busters reboot would have been shit regardless of if the cast was male or female. Its weird that people also seem to forget that Ghost Busters 2 even with the original cast wasn't very good, certainly not up to the first one.

Besides, you are completely ignoring a movie like Annihilation which had an all female cast and was awesome.
