Started playing Hellgate London the other day, after rewatching the trailer and remembering how much I loved the premise of it. And.....

wow, this game is janky, low res, early '00s stuff if I've ever seen it. It honestly feels like an asset flip on steam, given how low rendered all the environments are. It's a really cheep Diablo clone, given the way the powers work, it's just an OTS instead of topdown isometric. I mean, I still find it somewhat fun to play, as I get to play a technopaladin, running around near-future, post apocalypse london, bringing holy smites to demons walking the earth but...man, is it some low quality graphics. We'll see if I keep dabbling with it over the next week or so.

Tried Worms Rumble (free on psplus this month)

Yeah, kind of like minecraft dungeons, maintaning an art style while trashing the entire uunique streengths of your gameplay seems like a mis step. For the unaware, this a 2d side view shooter battle royal. It kind of misses the main appeal of Worms zany nonsense weapons and level deformation entirely.

That's where I stopped my attempt on Crushing, after 2+ hours of trail and error.
It also does the scripted Boss fight better than Uncharted 4. I mean, by the end you're really just hammering the square button, but it feels very satisfying to gang up on Asav with Nadine and just beat the shit out of him.
I agree. The end fight of Uncharted 4 reminds me of the end fight of Metal Gear Solid 4, in that you're asked to suddenly learn new mechanics for one small final part. I don't play fighting games or rhythm games. The Lost Legacy's end fight still keeps dodge to one button, the one you've been using for the entire game, instead of two.

Another thing I liked about TLL compared to Uncharted 4 is the total lack of journals, notes and letters that somehow survived hundreds of years in exposure. They slow down the pacing too much and feel so contrived. Audio logs and journals are such a staple of AAA games now, almost an expectation. I read some of them only because I feel like I miss out if I don't. But they usually feel like a lazy way to tell a story.

It kind of amazing what conditions paper and patchment can survive under. Those conditions however are not "humid tropical island."

That was a bad influence coming out of The Last of Us. It made sense there, because a lot of time is spent just scrounging around for supplies in abandoned buildings, making those notes little stories of what happened there. But Uncharted is all about momentum and keeping the player going from one exciting moment to the next. Putting in a bunch of flavour text just clashes with that.

So does putting in a very slow moving flashback sequence that lasts, like, 15 minutes right in the middle. They do the same thing in TLoU2, and they do it 6 fucking times. On subsequent playthroughs this becomes the point where I just want to drop the game.

Oh boy you'd love mission 7(i think) of Doom Eternal.

Its basically a 15 minute walking exposition scene explaining the Doom Slayers history in URdak leading up to a boss fight.

Bot Vice - An old school gallery shooter in the style of Cabal, Wild Guns, and Time Crisis. is This game hard! Still fun though! I love the fact you can change the controls, because I did not like the default set up. The game came out in 2016 on Steam, and last year on Switch. I got the Switch version as they had a sale for it at $2.99. The sales been over for Bot Vice, and is back at $9.99 for those interested. You got your standard handgun with unlimited ammo, a dodge roll, take cover by pressing up (you can change this if that is too awkward), sword slash for melee or absorb bullets, and a lock on. You get other weapons with limited ammo by shooting specific yellow robots that drop power-ups and sometimes health. Gonna play more later as I do find it addicting.

I forgot to mention this, but Bot Vice is a game in a cyberpunk setting. Here is another cyberpunk style game I will be playing over Cyberpunk 2077.

For those playing, I highly recommend you change the control lay out to something more comfortable and makes more sense. Taking cover (presss Down), Shoot (Y), Dodge Roll (B), and Slash (A). To me, that is the best way to optimize the controls. Note: these control lay outs are for the Switch version. If you're getting the Steam version, just try and go what's the most comfortable to you.

Finished the second Palace dungeon in Persona 5 Royal with 10 days to spare. Definitely wasn't expecting the changes to the boss from the original; came in somewhat underprepared as a result, but I managed to keep it together. Still a really fun fight, too; definitely better than the remixed bosses from the original Persona 4 to Golden.

Still barely started Cyberpunk 2077, mostly due to decision paralysis. I've picked up quite a few sidequests and have no idea what order to do them in, when to follow up on the main quest again, or what to spend my level-up points on.

Been playing Project Wingman. It's an indie Ace Combat, and a rather good one at that (which is amazing in and of itself, as it's a three man team; music composer, writer, and "everything else"). Planes have a nice weight to them, and while enemy planes are a little bit tougher to hit, you get way more normal missiles to start with (almost 200), plus the ability for most planes to carry more than one special weapon means that you have enough ammo for the long missions on offer. Campaign plot is a little wonky, there's not enough variety in the combat chatter (and allies and enemies pull from the same list of lines), and the main villain of the game is tad overdramatic and obnoxious, but considering the team size and source material, it's alright. Also has a "rouge-like" conquest mode which is pretty fun. Plus, he still has the playable demo (which has a few different planes, a couple of early versions of campaign missions, and the conquest mode) available to download off of itch.io here.

Please tell me he has a line about CRISP! WHITE! SHEETS! :)

Seriously, I'm glad someone has played it. I've had that on my wishlist for a while and I've been waiting for some reviews or someone to talk about if it's good or not.

Yeah, it plays really well, and it has VR support too (though I can't comment on it as I don't have one). Plus, the developer seems keen to add content and there's about 10 planes or so that are in the files, but didn't make the cut for the 1.0 release.

Usually with open world RPGs I start off doing every side-quest, then I burn out on the game and don't finish it.

This time with Cyberpunk I'm making a concerted effort to only do the sidequests that look interesting. If I miss things I might do a second playthrough but I'm going out of my way to not go out of my way.

Definitely gonna pick it up then. I've really enjoyed the AC series so far even AC7 whose plot is...I'm gonna be nice and say it's uneven, but the gameplay was mostly fun(that hunting trucks in the sandstorm mission can go to hell).

The download for Vergil went live on DMC5 Standard. It should not have taken them this long to release Vergil and make him $5 DLC on top of it. I've already unlocked all of his moves, because the 5+million orbs I saved. I started playing him on Son of Sparda mode, and he is once again a fucking game breaker. I do find it weird that they changed the name of Summon Swords to Mirage Swords for no reason. Imma still gonna call'em Summon Swords. I did the prologue and first mission just to test him out. It's ironic they took the the doppelgänger mechanics from DmC (itself a copy from DMC3) and made it better than DmC!Vergil's doppelgänger Devil Trigger. Right down to Normal, Slow, and Haste being the equivalent of Human Stance, Demon Stance, and Angel Stance. You're getting the best of all of Vergil's move sets from each games. I'll be playing more tomorrow after work.

Cyberpunk 2077. My lowly GTX1070 (although paired with a 7th gen i7 chip) is running it surprisingly smoothly so far on a mix of High and Ultra defaults; no RTX though of course. Still the game look impressive and after getting to my room the only noticeable glitch I've encountered is a stuck "Stash" info icon in the bottom left corner. Overall it's looking to be a pretty captivating game as an initial take. Production values aren't the strongest I've seen but everything generally feels well done so far, and I'm liking the first person viewpoint for a change. I've only scratched the surface but already am intrigued enough to stick with it vs going back to finish The Witcher 3.

The GTX 1070 is a damn powerful card. Not surprised it is kicking just about any current game out at 60 FPS 1080p. Might groan with some at 4K 30 FPS.

Internet was down this AM. Really weird as I got replies pinging Internet sites. EA wouldn't take my password. Yesterday it was Google. Strange goings on. While waiting for the fix, I loaded Resistance 3 onto my PS3 and got in some gaming. 1) looked very pretty for it's age. 2) Load times are not a thing of Gen 8 only. It took 1/2 an hour from putting in the disc to loading and then playing this thing on a super slim.

EDIT: A review

I guess the other thing is I have a decent amount less real estate to fill on my meager 1680x1050 monitor. I keep thinking why not just get at least a 1080 but then think well, I can deal with a 22” display for better performance, at least while my Samsung still works. Also could say I’m waiting to see how much cheaper OLED displays will get in the time being.

*sigh*

I’ve had issues with certain websites too, to the point I had to test my speeds one night. It might’ve been Cyber Monday server strain though now that I think of it. Kept getting a resolving host message but it finally cleared up after an hour or so. Other times it’s been the ISP.

I actually bought the Resistance collection a couple years ago since I sold my individual games, but never even opened it yet. I do think the last game was the best overall for a campaign though. By far best set pieces and weapons. They also really dialed in the aiming smoothness to the point it felt even better than some PS4 shooters.
