The 15 Best Space Combat Sims of All-Time

I understand why lists like these are Star Wars heavy, the SW universe is friendlier to it, but for my money Star Trek Bridge Commander deserved at least an honorable mention here. A good storyline, fun combat that actually felt like the Trek Universe, and the campaign was a pretty lengthy thing...

    Alpha Overhaul

I know you didn't like the Witcher when you played it originally, Shamus, but its the other recent RPG I can think of that has a morality system just like the one your describing here, you basically choose between the various factions in the game and each faction responds appropriately. There...

    Best Game Theme Music Ever

The final fantasy theme as it played on the title screen in FF4.

Most useless item in a game?

The underwater materia in FF7. It doubles the time you have to fight against an optional boss, but if you've gotten crazily high enough powered to beat him at all, you will beat him within the original time limit.

Old games that you think need a remake

Good call on Actraiser, Mother, and a few of the others. One game that definitly requires a remake is Pax Imperia, it was a space 4x game, but instead of MOO's turn based combat it had RTS combat. The AI was dodgy and the game lacked alot of the atmosphere of MOO, but RTS space combat...it...

Games that are an acquired taste

Paradox Strategy Games, their not newbie friendly (altough they've gotten better), often overwhelm the player with messages and alerts before you set the alert system properly, have too many things to do and too many ways to make mistakes, often have buggy or incomplete or simply inadequate...

Embarrassing or funny feats of fanboyism?

    1) Being able to recognize and give a plot summayr of every ST: TNG epsisode even years after it had gone off the air. 2) Driving a round trip of 200 or so miles to buy Victoria: An Empire under the Sun. Yes, I know, that wasn't the best Paradox game...I later regretted my fanboyism. I still...

Most Annoying Person You Have Met Online

I rememebr in the bad old days in which I played CTF with Quake 2 some people would complain about you "camping" in your base.... that always cracked me up.

Games you wish had a sequel.

I wish the original actual Fallout 3 had come out. I only have a few things against the one we actually got, but it definitely lost something.

    The Writers of BioWare

I think some of my fellow readers are interpreting as criticism something that wasn't meant *as* criticism. It was, in fact, a discussion of the character tropes common to bioware games, not an "accusation" that Bioware are a bunch of uncreative dolts.

WoW.... Should I venture into the unknown?

WoW encapsulates everything that is both good and bad about MMORPG's: There is always more to do, but alot of it is repetitive, time consuming, or both. Much of the high end stuff requires a good group of fellow players to properly be enjoyed. If you just jump in yourself, it will be much...

    Stupidest things you've ever done

I repelled off the side of a five story garage with clothes lines... twice. I only fell the second time, and only about ten feet and sprained a wrist. But boy was I lucky.

If all video games companies stopped making games, what would you do?

Read more and play more tabletop games, I suppose. Although, being an argumentative bastard, I want to say I wouldn't play along with the global abandoning of games and try and start up a new gaming company. I could make millions! No competition, lots of untapped demand....

    The Final Boss

I don't think it's unusual for people to be a 'little but of both' but it strikes me that the point of the article si that people are more one than the other. In order for the drama to be present, its generally the case that *some* sort of difficulty needs to be in place, its just a question of...
