I play it for Pc...
Okay, same.

runs fine,
Of course, because:

it has really good graphics,
Because it does not

The *Worst* part are the animations, which are the kind of thing people make in their second year of college in a games-design course as a proof of concept. Notice that duke jumps with his arms still, and it looks like shit. I could go on and on with the poor graphics, but it's not really much of a game measure, asides from making it look unprofessional.

interactivity with the world,
Not beyond the very tight confines of the game. You find yourself at a gym (after or just before the *****-queen, can't remember) and have to get through a door when the other room has lots of explosives. Interactivity? I threw a 100Lb dumbell at the glass, it bounced off it as if it were made of rubber and hit me. Then I tried stacking it with explosives, to blow off the door or to smash the glass or something, and nothing happened. Then, I did it the "right way", and with the same explosive force it opens up.

platforming and action scenes (wich breaks from the generic cover/ shoot mechanics)
But that's not the point of the game this should have been. The shooting should be good enough not to require constant detractions. The platforming is pretty terrible and linear though, and I really really really really hate playing vehicle games so I shouldn't review those.

it has a good sense of humour,
Somewhat agreed

That doesn't excuse terrible gameplay, but it's an aspect I like. Sometimes it's pretty poor like the poop throwing is just... (And it shows the shitty graphics(NPI))
a good array of weapons,
Nothing new, nothing awesome, retarded 2-weapon limit restricts your ability to enjoy them. Why conserve ammo with the pistol (A staple of classic FPS games) when everything else is more powerful? It doesn't even switch faster a la CoD

and hey... its over 8 hours... like im comparing to the crappy 4 hour long games you love so much..
And I judge books by how long they are too!

The game has puzzles and good details...
The puzzles are a fucking joke and require leaps of logic which make no sense. Horribly designed from a game-design perspective. That fucking crane scene took me forever to stumble upon the answer, there was even a crane with a ladder that wasn't the answer on your way back.

You can like it if you want, but by no means is it a good game from an analytical perspective.

you..... you really went all out in this one...

okay i can get down with your "opinion" or review, but i still feel like its better then games such has conduit 2 or even homefront (games that in my opinion... sucked.... sucked really hard). Dont forget that conduit 2 had a 7 and homefront a 8.... i do not belive Duke is worst then those 2... its not the perfect game... hey even i admit it, duke was not the expected.. but it was not worst then those 2.... not by a long shot... and it certanly did not deserved a 3 from a scale of 1/10...

That's... kinda awesome. I haven't played Duke Nukem since it was 2D so I have no opinion on DNF, but I like it when fans are rewarded for their commitment.
Amen to that. A little good will can go a long way - and ten years of good will is apparently greatly appreciated.

I haven't played DNF, I probably won't before it hits the bargain bin, but I feel much better disposed towards Gearbox.

I think I actually remember this guy from around the time that it sounded like Duke Nukem Forever would go down the drain. I recall this guy's receipt on another gaming site years ago. That or there is another Houston native who has been waiting a really long time...

Well I hear the games pretty bad (will be playing it soon to find that out) however I've got to give a thumbs up to Gearbox for this.
Play it for duke and not for the "INNOVATIVE GAME PLAY" and you winn have fun. its a game that is doomed to be picked to death by reviewers no matter how good a game it is.

OT: SO MUCH WANT! Props to gearbox for giving that guy everything he's been waiting for. That was extremely cool of them.

10 Year Old Duke Nukem Forever Preorder Honored - With Swag!

Gearbox Software honored a fan's pre-order of Duke Nukem Forever from 2001 with a boatload of swag.

Ok, we know that Duke Nukem Forever took a long time to make. And we know that a lot of people were disappointed with the result, Mr. Russ Pitts included. But at least Gearbox was cool of enough to make good on its claims to honor any and all preorders for the game. One gamer, known as Slash000, proved that he ordered the game all the way back on August 13th, 2001, and the Houston, TX area GameStop gave him the copy he was due. Not only that, Gearbox Software got wind of Slash's commitment to the Duke, and decided to shower him with tons of swag - including the special edition and a headshot of the titular lord signed by the whole development team.

[gallery=373]

Here's the list of everything he got:

Duke Nukem Forever PC Balls of Steel Edition #10, Signed by the Development Team
Duke Nukem Headshot, Signed by the Development Team
Logitech G19 Keyboard with GamePanel LCD Screen (Supported by Duke Nukem Forever PC)
Duke Nukem Forever Titty City Pint Glass
Duke Nukem Forever Titty City Shot Glass
Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club Shot Glass
Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club Mouse Pad
Duke Nukem Forever Belt Buckle
Duke Nukem Forever "Steroids"
Duke Nukem Forever Mini-Lithographs
Duke Nukem Forever gamerART Aluminum Mouse Pad
Duke Nukem Forever Hoody
Duke Burger T-Shirt
Hail to the King! T-Shirt
Come Get Some T-Shirt
Gearbox Swag Bag

Say what you want about Randy Pitchford and Gearbox taking over the reins of the Duke from 3D Realms, at least the team had the grace and professionalism to honor the people who stuck by the game and never cancelled the pre-order.

Now if only Gearbox had made a decent game ...

That is awesome of 2K to do that. Yea the game may not be that great but they still kept their word and then some. Too bad Gearbox couldn't save the game from the jaws of death that 3D Realms put in in. Oh well can't wait to see what Gearbox does with the Duke in the next game.

I watched a lets play of the first part of the game (the one on TGWTG) and it looked fun at first but it quickly descends into boredom. The problems I've seen so far (this is without playing the game, I could be wrong) is that its in an uncomfortable position of trying to be like a modern shooter whilst also trying to be a retro style shooter like the original.
I imagine this as a lot to do with the messy development, its probably been changed so much in the long development time that its a tad inconsistent. Makes sense, I think all Gearbox did was polish it the best they could then released it. Would have liked them to have maybe taken their time with it a little more.

That being said, I'll make my judgements when I get the game and play it for myself.

Again, play it for the duke, thats what I'm doing and I'm absolutely loving it, Oh and if you want to play it hard, put it as hard as possible, you will not be starved of a challenge.

I'll try that. The Duke is awesome, though that doesn't make it exempt from criticism. I want to play a game that's fun, I just hope this one delivers.

The icing on the cake would be that the guy plays the game, sees how awful it is, gives all the stuff back and says he wants a refund. That, or he sells all of it on E-Bay, he might get a buyer for the swag, but I doubt he would get a buyer for the game.
the game might be bad, but all that random crap is actually useful/collectible in a few years. plus the fucker might actually like it.

Its a quality game. Its just doomed to death by reviewer seeing as it is this old. The difficulty is exactly as it says. HARD.

That's heartwarming. I was hoping they would do something like this and the team pulled through.
All is right with the world.
