Passion says it all in this game, it's the love that the dev team have for this game, they risk, they sweat, they cry (they HAD TO DELAY IT), but they pulled it off, and delivered a game NO LESS THAN DUKE 3D! what more do people want? did they really want a "serous dark tone" story in this? I think GearBox did fine, consider this game is probably a bloody mess when they got it, to finish a game in 18 MO? it's a freaking miracle compare to HL-ep3! also this demos how cool Unreal Engine is!fix-the-spade said:I consider Gearbox to be the Anti-Valve.
They may not be able to deliver a fantastic game consistently, but they do get things finished on time and on budget. I suspect this is why publishers keep giving them money to make games*.
Any company funding games will likely know what a develoepr can do given a set time and budget, given that Gearbox has ahd 18months to finish DN:F from whatever pile of scraps they got delivered to their door, Take Two probably had a good idea of what would come out the other end. I'll bet they just wanted the damn thing done and out so they could get some return on all that investment.
However, that whole Los Vegas strip club for promo thing is totally unnecessary...
