BioWare Says Farewell With Mass Effect 3: Citadel and Reckoning

The final piece of Mass Effect 3 single-player DLC will see the return of some old friends and old flames.

The story of Commander Shepard is finally coming to a close with a big, two-part DLC blowout. First up is Mass Effect 3: Citadel, a single-player add-on that has Commander Shepard targeted by a "sinister conspiracy," leading him into new Citadel locations ranging from the Wards to the top-secret Council Archives. The final Mass Effect 3 single-player DLC will bring about the return of squadmates from the original Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 and while EA hasn't revealed the full lineup yet, Urdnot Wrex is definitely on the list.

It's a "final, sentimental journey" with all-new cinematics and even the opportunity to "rekindle romances" with old paramours. And once the trouble is over, the Commander and Co. will be able to relax for awhile at the Silver Coast Casino, hit up the Armax Combat Arena and furnish Shepard's own personal living quarters on the station.

"As the launch of these chapters near, the feeling around the studio is bittersweet," Mass Effect Executive Producer Casey Hudson said. "We hope fans will enjoy spending more time with some of their favorite characters - we have certainly enjoyed spending time creating them. We're excited to release this final sendoff for the trilogy and move forward into the future of the Mass Effect universe."

On the multiplayer side of the coin, Mass Effect 3: Reckoning will add the Geth Spitfire assault rifle, Venom shotgun, Lancer assault rifle and Biotic Hammer, as well as new classes including the Geth Juggernaut, Female Turian Raptor, Talon Mercenary and Alliance Infiltration Unit. Two new weapon mods are also being tossed into the mix, the Geth Scanner and the Assault Rifle Omni-Blade.

Mass Effect 3: Citadel is scheduled to launch on March 5 at a cost of 1200 Microsoft points or $14.99. Mass Effect 3: Reckoning will hit on February 26, and will be free. To find out more about both, head over to masseffect.com [http://masseffect.bioware.com/downloads/citadel/].

Well it looks like their experiment with increasing Omega's price to $15 worked. This doesn't exactly sound very interesting honestly. I was kind of hoping for something a bit grander.

I wonder if we're still going to be able to access these new areas of the Citadel after the DLC story is finished. Or is it just going to be one Big Lipped Alligator moment like Omega was.

If it was an epilogue after the ending that just had Shepard, Wrex and Garrus cracking open a cold one while sitting on the Citadel, I'd say nice. But I doubt that will happen.

I guess I see what people are saying, you kind of have to pretend you haven't finished the game yet and that those quests just came up out of nowhere. I don't know if what ultimately happens makes it that difficult to enjoy the new self-contained story, though. It's cool that one of them is free at least.

I'm actually excited for this. I've put off the SP DLC so I can play them all at once, so I'll be replaying it when it comes out.
PS Does anyone know if the DLC is ever on sale? I know Origin does sales from time to time but DLC costs aren't discounted.

I'm a sucker for Mass Effect 3, so I'll probably end up getting this. Omega was pretty meh though so I'm liable to wait a few days while I listen for reviews. If its well received, I'll pick it up. Otherwise, I shall wait for a sale.

Finally. The bits and pieces of Mass Effect 3 are done. Maybe they'll release the complete version of the game sometime this winter and I'll have reason to play Mass Effect 3 for the first time.

You know, despite that aweful ending (which I havn't played but have watched) if this comes out as a big package bundle with all 3 games and DLC's, im definatly buying it. I don't care if the last 10 mins was a flop as the rest was God tier in terms of characters and setting. I damn near melted every time Tali said a word and Garrus... well, what can I say... Garrus, bro for life *beats chest*.

I hope that this "spending time with old friends" DLC isn't going to be as corny and vomit inducing as the multiple farewells during Mass Effect 3's final mission. That just came off as a forced attempt at some sort of closure. Hint: It didn't work.

I like my single player and I also like single player DLC. What I like more than anything is playing those two things in the right order. ME3's DLC schedule has been nothing if not unconventional. I'm playing the trilogy again now, right from the beginning. Hopefully by the time I reach Mass Effect 3 again I'll be interested enough to purchase the remaining DLC.

The conspiracy: That whole thing never happened. It was all a dream. Shepard is being held by Cerberus forces and her team busts her out. They then must stop the Illusive Man from helping the Reapers complete their conquest. Afterward, you get to see all your old friends and catch up with them while you hang out in your home and enjoy the company of your chosen romance. You know, like how the game should have ended originally.
What? I can hope.

Honestly though, this does sound like how the game should have ended--the seeing old friends and hanging out part anyway. Rekindle old flames has me interested, though only because I can only think of two people: Jacob and Kelly. Jacob would be wrong, seeing as he's already taken now, but if they bring back Kelly (more than just, 'Let's go have sex in this container where everyone can see/hear us)...I will complete my ME2 run with my Aimee Shepard.

Pretty much my thoughts, unless they change the ending, they aren't selling me anything here. The ending was sufficient to retroactively destroy the series. As long as that ending stands nothing they do that does not change that ending even remotely matters.

You guys should check out the announcement topic on Bioware forums. It's hilarious. I can't count how many "thank you BIOWARE!" and "I'm so excited" I've seen on a single page.

Thank you Bioware for what? Excited for what? It's a $15 DLC and they won't even tell you what it's about apart from some vague description about a conspiracy and a casino. We know it's a conspiracy. Almost everything in Mass Effect has been a conspiracy of some kind. It will probably be some emotionally manipulative crap. But is it actually worth the money? Does the DLC matter at all? Does it impact the ending in any way? No one seems to be asking those questions. It's like they've all been indoctrinated.
