OT: I dunno how I feel about this. On the one hand my plan was to wait for all the DLC to come out so I can play through it all at once. Buttttt on the other I've basically lost all enthusiasm for the series after the ending and given the quality of the DLCs given the cost I don't think it'll be worth it. I'll probably have to wait for more details before I get excited.

I know exactly how you feel. That ending has completely sapped my appreciation for the whole trilogy. It's hard to imagine one single misstep like that could destroy a whole series... They can release DLC until the end of days, and it still wouldn't fix anything.

I mean, I've tried. I've really tried to get into it again. And when I do, i find that the combat is still really good, the action is still good, and the story is still good.... until I think about what awaits at the end of the journey, and all enthusiasm just drains away into nothing.

I've seen a lot of bad endings in games over the years, but never has one caused me to feel like this about a whole franchise before.

It was fucking horrible, not subpar.
Gearbox has to release a third awful game. BioWare got a free ride on Dragon Age II and The Old Republic.

It's not like mentioning DAII sparks an instant flame war anywhere on the internet, and The Old Republic is still moderately well received.
Try again though, I'm really interested in having this discussion again, it's been all of two days since I saw the last METhree vicious slap fight thread.

Then again, DNF is rubbed in Gearbox' face to this day and Colonial Marines is too fresh to judge it's effect on the overall reputation. Besides, Gearbox also released Borderlands and Borderlands 2, which are pretty popular and well-received, while BioWare's releases after Mass Effect 2 (which itself was fairly alarming, but was still damn good) were nothing but a cavalcade of failure.

Yeah, but the other 95% of the game was awesome, and they're selling more of that. I called Omega for being a time waster and it's why I didn't buy it. This on the other hand, sounds fun.

DNF is never brought up, it's swept under the rug for the most part with any threads dedicated to it not being set aflame with Gearbox hate. As for Colonial Marines being too fresh to judge it on reputation? Top sellers list on Steam from Preorders and then tanking due to outright lying on Gearbox's part with Pitchford going and trying to stir shit up with people who reviewed it poorly, and the forums are not alight with hate.
Still too soon to judge my ass, if this was a Bioware production the forums would be burning for three weeks, minimum.

Also, I'm given to understand that Robin Sachs (Zaeed's VA who recently passed away) recorded lines for this before he died. Let's hope it was a nice send-off.

Saying they were building up to the endings is like saying your life is building up to your death. While it's true that Death is at the end of it, is that all that mattered in the end? None of what you did or memorable experiences counts for anything, it's just the endings?

Any story will progress until it reaches the end, and everything that comes before that is not rendered meaningless by coming to the conclusion.
