Hyrule Warriors Is a Dynasty Warriors-Styled Zelda

The Hyrule Warriors spinoff game will launch in 2014 for Wii U.

Announced in Nintendo's last Nintendo Direct of 2013 was a new Legend of Zelda game, a spinoff named Hyrule Warriors. Developed by Tecmo Koei, known for franchises like Dynasty Warriors, Hyrule Warriors of course stars Link in a third-person combat game.

In Hyrule Warriors, Link uses his large arsenal of weapons to fight off giant hordes of enemies from Zelda games. There have been climactic moments in Zelda games when Link has needed to cut down group after group after group of enemies to get to the real baddie, and for anyone who's loved the combat in Legend of Zelda, it looks like Hyrule Warriors will have plenty of hack and slash action.

There's still no news on a new Legend of Zelda Wii U game, but a Dynasty Warriors-styled Legend of Zelda game sounds entertaining enough to be a solid spinoff title. On first reaction, it seems crazy. After a moment's passing, it seems like a fantastic idea. Legend of Zelda titles challenge your problem solving skills, but there's also quite a bit of combat for our legendary sword-equipped hero. Hyrule Warriors is not the in-depth Wii U Zelda title people have been waiting for, but it's the title we didn't know we wanted.

Nintendo notes that Hyrule Warriors is not a final title, so it may be changed. The game will launch next year for Wii U.

Well, this is a thing. I played a ton of Zelda throughout my life, and I played some Dynasty Warriors as a kid, but I only thought of combining the two as a brain-fart at most. To see them actually doing this is well, surprising to say the least. It could work though, so I hope it pans out well.

Yes, please!

A bit of variety in the LoZ franchise is more than welcome. I just wish that I could also play as Sheik (maybe?). Other than that, I'll be following this with attention.

I've just got to say that this game looks awesome! It was a brilliant way to start off the Nintendo Direct. I expected the surprise reveal at the end but no, right from the start and bam!

Now I just hope that Tingle will be playable because... it would be playable Tingle in a Dynasty Warriors styled game, that would be just hilarious.

Welp, now I have to get a Wii U. I wonder if there will be enough playable characters to justify a full release or if Link will be the only one with different loadouts?

funny, the human solders in this game will be just as useful as they are in all the other games, why have an army at all?!

If anything, it looks really fucking cool. I wonder if we get to play as Gorons, Rito or even Gerudo thieves. I see potential here.

Let the record state that this is the only thing from either the Wii or Wii U that I've seen and instantly thought to myself "I want to play that."

Pri-tee damn cool.

This looks pretty cool. This is the first thing I've seen that's made me consider someday getting a WiiU. I'll definitely be watching for more details on this.

Wait? This is real??!!! When I read the title, I was under the impression it was a fan made thing like that statergy LoZ game.

Well I do got to admit that the final part in Skyward Sword when you race down the spiral slope to reach the final boss but having an actual mob of moblins in your way (20+ in a screen as oppose to having 4 as the maximum enemies on the screen) was one of the highlight of that game! Now I think about it, why didn't they unleash that numbers onto Link in the first place?

Anyway this is pure awesome sauce!

when I saw the headline i assumed it was a fan mod. The idea of a main Nintendo series doing a spin-off by a whole different company... this is as much of a shock as Pokemon Conquest was!

I can only imagine what is going through Mr Croshaw's brain right now. After years of trying to persuade NIntendo to shake up the formula for their games, they've now gone and shaken up the most solidly set of the lot. I'll be curious to see how this changes during development.

Oh my. A new form of crack skinned in Zelda goodness... it can only end in disaster... "EXCUSE ME..." No. We won't be having that either, Link.
