Shadow of Mordor Free DLC Adds Option to Play as a Woman

The Power of Defiance DLC has a skin where you can slay orcs as Lithariel.

Warner Bros. and Monolith released a batch of free DLC yesterday for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/middle-earth%20shadow%20of%20mordor] that adds some new features, such as the unexpected addition to play as female character.

Talion's story is similar to that of many game protagonists - revenge over the death of his family. Being able to play as a different character - especially one who's a woman - at least makes the game feel a bit different on a surface level. This character is Lithariel, the Warrior Commander of the Tribesmen of Nurn. Daughter of Lady Marwen and Queen of Nurn, Lithariel also wears setting-appropriate clothing not all that different from Talion's.

However, Lithariel is available only as a skin rather than an entirely new playable character. Playing as Lithariel won't give you new abilities or actions. As Lithariel players will fight Sauron's forces through the new Test of Defiance challenge mode where you are unable to revive or use Wraith powers.

The Power of Defiance DLC also includes an Epic Rune called Defiant to the End, which gives an additional Last Chance to re-enter the fight after dying in combat.

An update released yesterday adds the DLC, but only for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It is not available on PS3 and Xbox 360.

With plenty of people asking game developers add options for inclusivity for women, it's nice to see there's an option to play as war commander Lithariel.

Oh my God, a woman. And one that isn't flaunting massive bouncy cleavage. The SJWs have won, this game is ruined.

...But on a serious note, the article leaves me slightly confused. Can she be played in the main story, even if she is "just a skin?" Or is it solely in these challenge modes?

I hear that she can be played in the story, but that in cutscenes that the skin won't appear. I suspect that the skin might not carry over a voice appropriate for it as well.
thats...really bizare...

at first I was like WHAAAT??

and then I snapped back to the real world and saw unsurprisingly it was an add on/multiplayer/I'm not sure what it is actually

ah well...there's always dragon age

Meanwhile, Ubisoft PR guy heads exploded as they read this article. XD

Anyway, this is kinda neat. More options are always good.

Thats completely ass backwards, gamers generally don't care if a character lacks huge bouncy cleavage but the SJWs soon start whining when one does have massive bouncy cleavage.

Shit man, imagine how much hyper-intensive animation work they had to do. They must be losing so much money releasing this for free.

I can live with that. Not my preferred option, but still.

Well, I was going to get this anyway, eventually, so it's more a perk.

Well, unless you're concerned with reality, that is. I mean, people bitched about Lara Croft's breast reduction, and that one game where the cover art changed the midriff, but sure. Gamers don't care. It's the SJWs who are whining about these things. That are completely antithetical to being an "SJW." Because ponies.

Y dey do dis to myne faevrith gaem?!

I hate females.

I don't actually. You really liked the thought getting to say what you thought just now, eh, Social Justice Feminazi?

I very much like the trend of "free DLC" content. I wanted to take on a challenge within this game anyway, for I found it slightly too easy (but luckily: unforgiving when I did die).

I think that's unfair. Given ACU, it's evident that it really IS hard for Ubisoft to animate characters. :p

One of those is changing a beloved and iconic character, the other is a midriff not breasts and the reason they where upset is the developer got coerced into changing it.

Sure. Let's make excuses for why this is totally different.

Why were none of these people concerned when that "beloved character's" breasts got bigger? I mean, if it's only about changes....

Come now. Does this fool anyone?

Relax... they opted to not include jiggle physics so it wasnt that expensive.

They should have gone with the male/female choice from the get go for the main campaign.

I would actually kinda like seeing a woman avenging her family for once.

But keep going on your random rants, though they are getting a bit annoying right now though.
Plus, it'd be hypocritical to tell me not to "rant" if you're going to keep lying.

However, you shouldn't tell people they're "lying" if you get called out when you're talking shit, mate.
Which is why I only say that people are lying if they are lying.

Hell, you even contradicted the other guy trying to argue the same thing.

Jesus man, I even provided the fucking post where the whole debacle was argued, it's a bit late now to go "menenene, you're lying".
You may have added it after the fact, but it wasn't there before. I can screencap the original message if you want to go to the mat on this one. Regardless, the OP there doesn't make the argument you think it's making. Maybe you should read your own "evidence" before using it. In fact, it's a counterpoint to just what I was saying! Not to mention the sheer volume of straw being beaten out of man-shaped objects.

Yeah, the other guy got it wrong, dunno, maybe he wasn't around, or misremembered it.
Or, you know, you're wrong, added a link after the fact, and didn't bother to parse for actual content.

Does this chaneg the fact that you made something up and got called out for it, and is now calling other people liars? Don't really know if this adds up.
See, that's lying. Right there.

Of course, if you change the facts, it won't add up.
