God, I hope that the media can recognize that the kid was obviously out of his damn mind. Who am I kidding, this will be hell for the industry.

It's the "Teenager who killed his mom for cutting his Halo time and ended up in jail months later" story all over again.

Am I the only one who still remember that event?

I can't help but feel bad about the mother of the kid. It must have been pretty horrible to witness that.

With some one this mentally unstable, I think this kid would have done something violent eventually.

That being said, I can already imagine the press coverage this is going to get.

The solution is obvious. Ban sledgehammers. And video games, for good measure. And for fuck's sake, don't let anyone from the US try to adopt him.

...

Anyway, I feel sorry for the father and mother. Although I get the feeling that this might have been the first time these parents actually tried discipline. It's actually quite hard to raise that cold-blooded of a child.

I really doubt anyone is stupid enough to chalk this up to video-games. It's pretty obvious the kid was mentally unstable.

Oh, this is wonderful. Now you watch as other gamers get blamed and the press goes apeshit crazy over this.

But, really, a sledgehammer? C'mon kid, it's just a keyboard. Go out and do something with yourself, jesus christ...

Maybe he was playing Command and Conquer. But really, you don't kill your father until he kills an innocent family member on purpose. If he hits you, just hit back. But since neither of these occured, he was not justified and seemed to be psycotic before this. Even I've gone for 15 hours straight and never did this. But I start to pass out after a while. So I should eat my words.

Holy crap.

He just went back to playing his video games after killing his own father???

I have to admit, I could never imagine myself doing such a thing...

edit: hmmm...

I hear a lot of people saying that people are going to point towards violent videogames as a cause... but I dunno, I think in a way it could be blamed on video games, actually, but not in the way that violent video games specifically has caused this...

I have more of a feeling that this is a really really serious case of addiction to video games, coupled with some serious psychological issues.

The problem, I think, doesn't lie in the fact that said video game was violent or not, but just by the fact that he obviously wanted it so badly that he would kill his own father for it. People shouldn't just use it as another excuse to try and ban video games... We need to work out how the child got into such an emotional state, and furthermore how he got so addicted to the thing in the first place. Just trying to ban the games won't work - such a thing won't happen anyway. What can happen, and I would like to see happen, is analysis on what kind of behaviour we need to look for, and how we can help the person affected by the video games before he/she turns violent and/or starts to neglect their day-to-day needs like sleep, food, etc.

The article said nothing about gaming really. For all we know it could have been an online chat obsession. If it was gaming, and the kid really needed his fix, there are tons of free flash games you can play with just a mouse. Much easier than patricide.
Clearly there were underlying mental issues with this kid if something like that could set him off. It almost sounds cold hearted to say especially when the father was the victim, but really Mom and Dad? Did they not notice a pattern of abhorrent/psychotic behavior in this kid that it could even get to this point? What a sad story.
