Why does video game insanity always come from China or Russia?
Because insane [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95710-Drunken-Father-Kills-Son-Missing-Videogame-Blamed]?

I don't know, but I wouldn't classify a couple of recent stories as "always", especially not when compared to the frequency this sort of thing occurs in countries that aren't China or Russia.

Frightened, the boy's mother gave him back the keyboard, he returned to his computer and continued playing until he fell asleep.
That is seriously creepy
What this guy said. I wonder how long she waited before fleeing.

It's entirely possible that his father was sexually abusive or something, and had just taken away the kids only form of escapism. So the kid killed him.

I'm not saying that's the situation, by any means, but you have to look at this from different perspectives.

I hope he was playing 'Putt Putt goes to the Moon' or something.
Otherwise the media is going to have a field-day with this.

The kid was obviously unhinged, and without knowledge of how this kid was raised, there are any number of reasons he's a little psychopath. But of course: They'll point at games.
Probably Hello Kitty Online. Damn those violent video games!

HOLD ON A Minute...

This is a sledgehammer

Now, imagine yourself at 14.

Could you sneak into your dad's bedroom, swing that thing at him, recover and swing again?

Seriously, try and lift one sometime. They are incredibly heavy. If a fourteen year old can easily lift and swing one, then he's in the top echelon of teenage strength.

Now, we'll assume his mother is in the same bed as his dad...at which point she handed over his keyboard and he went back?

And his mother rang her RELATIVES...presumably covered in the gore from the accident, instead of the police?

Nah. There's some serious pieces missing here.
I could swing one at least twice at 14 and I'm just as (reasonably) lazy as any other (reasonable) gamer.

Something like that happened recently in Vienna. A 14-year old girl killed her mother with a knife because she had forbidden her to surf the Internet.

Here's a link: http://www.monstersandcritics.com/news/europe/news/article_1548138.php/Viennese-girl-kills-mother-after-internet-ban
It may be a coincidence that both kids were 14, but I am seriously thinking about staying away from any kid that looks 14.

It could be an apocalyptic virus that effects 14 year-olds and makes them go crazy. If you know anybody that is 14, watch your back.

Great I can see CNN, FOX, or MSNBC getting a hold of this and instead of saying the little phyco had a sever mental problem they will twist it and make it out to be that video games are as addictive and dangerous as crack and people will kill to get some.

And I hate to say it but the kid should probably be tried as an adult.

Great, more fuel for the anti-game fires. It's always the completely bat-shit crazy gamers that make the news, never the thousands of sane ones...I guess that's not really news though is it? - "Thousands of gamers played video games quite happily in their homes last night with nothing out of the ordinary happening what so ever".

Try sneaking while cradling one, now swing at a soft surface and recover quickly. I can carry 96 kilos with reasonable ease and I'd have trouble doing it.
Now think about it doing that when you're in sleep-deprivation. If you can really do that, I'll be impressed.

Now, imagine being covered in gore (A strike against a prone body would literally gib it with that weight) and not going to wash it off? The human mind/body doesn't work like that without some severe disturbances that would have been set off and have been noticeable years ago.

Not the computer's fault the kid was crazy, I'm pretty sure that there were previous symptoms of emotional unbalance before the "keyboard" issue, that's what child-psychologists are for.

Just charge him as you would any murderer.

PS: What's with Russia and bludgeoning people to death? Seriously... Country is messed up...

This is crazy. Unfortunately, I'm sure if CNN or other parental groups get a hold of it, it will become another story of how "violent video games are ruining our kids" rather than seeing it for what it is: a kid with severe emotional and rage issues finally acts out, and in the worst way.
It must have been some keyboard..

I'm glad Russian laws allow to convict 14 year olds for murder. It should be like that everywhere.

Wait, wait. Let me get this straight: He was punished for playing too long, lost his keyboard, killed his father with a sledgehammer, then spared his mother when he got the keyboard back so he could go back to playing the game. Then fell asleep.

Okay, I know that certain alarmist news stations will try and pin this on the game, but damn. Anybody with a brain stem should know that there is obviously some serious underlying issue with this kid. I still can't wrap my head around it. He killed his dad, then went back to playing the game as if nothing had happened.

They're in Russia. Craaaaazy stuff happens there.

OT: That's really sad. One, because a man died because of a nutjob son who had severe problems.
two: because games/gamers will probably get the blame.
HAHA like playing hacky sack with hand grenades XD... lil joke me and my friends have. O did i mention they are LIVE grenades
