Sony Wants To Know About Your First Kiss

Sony is surveying its customers about their personal lives, including when they had their first kiss and what their dating habits are.

When you first start dating someone, do you hide your PlayStation 3 in the closet? Do you casually insert comments about interactive entertainment over drinks and dinner to see how your date feels about gaming? It's not me asking, it's Sony, with a somewhat odd survey recently sent out to PlayStation owners.

Surveys such as this normally ask questions about how many hours you play games in a week, or what your favorite genres are. This one asks about first kisses and when you reveal that you play videogames to a significant other, amongst other fairly personal questions.

The first oddity is when Sony asks respondents if they would rather give up videogames for one year, or time with their family for one year. Sony also wants to know if customers have ever missed a date or party because they were playing games.

The survey goes on to ask: "What are your dating rules around the PS3?" Available answers are: "By date three, they must be introduced to my PS3 and gaming lifestyle or it will never work," "Will only date people who like to game," and "Cannot date anyone that sets limits on my gaming."

And the weirdest part is a section where Sony gives respondents the choice of various time periods to check off for when they first encountered certain situations. Those situations include driving your first car, going to your first concert, and having your first kiss.

It almost seems like Sony is trying to determine how many of its customers have an unhealthy addiction to videogames, and which portions of its demographic never leave the house. I'm truly wondering what Sony is planning to use this research for, whether it be a dating service integrated into the PlayStation 3 or if it wants to send encouraging emails to those that haven't kissed anyone yet. The survey looks like a genuine attempt to try to get to know the personal lives of gamers, but for what purpose is unknown.

An odd study, to say the least.

I guess I can kinda see the point of it, but....eh...still odd.

Maybe they're going to start bringing all those weird Japanese dating games over here and want to know if enough people are lonely, addicted to games and never leave the house enough to see if they'll sell.

What do you mean 'Do you hide your PS3 in the closet', Sony? How am I going to show my date my awesome ecchi anime collection on blu-ray if it's not plugged in and fully on display? /sarcasm

In all seriousness, this is certainly a bizarre study. I fear they may be setting up a 'Playstation Home' dating service. Good God, I hope that's not the case.
Whoah that is a very scary thought.. wow I that would be so AWES silly.

I want to take this survey now! haha sounds fun!

Is this on the website, or on the PS3 itself? I haven't turned my PS3 on recently because of SCII and TF2.

I expect they're collecting that kind of data so they can laud it over Microsoft in a future press release.
