And the rays of radiation are going to wake up all the dead, and BAM! There we have it; The zombie apocalypse.

Can't wait.

If so, thank goodness I subscribe to a gaming magazine.

Quick tip: The average person doesn't need electronics to survive. Of course, there are the people who need medical support from machines, but this is countered by another loophole; only machines directly in the sunlight would be affected. Get yourself a bunker that's below ground level and your gaming console will be just fine. Of course, that still leaves the satellites, but I'm sure NASA and other space programs aren't stupid enough to just leave them hanging in space.

Remember that woman in Spain who claimed ownership of the sun last month? If anything happens, we'll all sue her for damage of our electronics and infrastructure.

You'd be surprised how much our society relies on electronic equipment. Powerplants, water facilities, pretty much the entire economic system. We live in a digitalised world and we're pretty vurnerable against events like that.

I'm also not sure where you got the direct sunlight thing from. We're talking radation here, stuff that fries electrical grids and creates power outages.

As for satellites, it's not like NASA has much of a choice. You try raking in about 3.000 satellites, and it's not like you can simply pluck them out of the sky either.

Honestly your post is so silly that I suspect it's a clever trolling attempt. You can't fool me!

You sir, are a genius. That's the coolest anti-trolling plan EVAH!

Oh my god, won't someone please think of the computers! Why Sun, whyyyy?! Imagine the carnage...

On a more serious note, is it just me or does this solar flare of death sound like the perfect idea for a post-apocalyptic novel?

Phht.. this is bullshit.

We all know that Nibiru is coming around in 2012 and the Anunaki will share their secrets of using gold to shield the atmosphere to prevent this.

Duhh..

Perkele! When has the sun ever done anything good for us?

Oh well, whatever happens, happens. It will only do good and be interesting for a while, if some of this digital world stops sizzling.

Hold on a minute! I'm going to lose internet, aren't I?
Don't worry, I'm sure the porn industry won't let that happen. They made VHS and CDs big, they are surely not going to let the internet die.

They're probably already assembling their smartest dialog writers, directors and actors to face that issue.

All this because the sun will be entering its phase known as Solar Cycle 24
Strike 1, we are already in Solar Cycle number 24, since it began in 2008.

Strike 2, you forgot that Earth is surrounded by magnetic field.

Strike 3, If you havent heard it directly from NASA representatives, dont believe it.

You're out !

You know they'll just turn off the grids for a day or two whilst this happens. They only blow up if the grids are live.

HAHA, classic, you get todays two thumbs award for outstanding common sense.

Funnily enough at the time I remember thinking if I develop skin cancer, I'm suing her.

My word, do you know what this means?!?!?! We must EXTINGUISH the Sun! Quickly! Before our computers break!!!
Immediatly assemble a team of our hottest scientist/astronauts!

But seriously ?
Worst case is 1 trillion in damages ?
Yes.... a catastrophe that would do that much damage, would certainly lead to the end of the world..... *cough*
Aslong as my Xbox, Ps3, laptop, one socket and one tv is fine I'll be ok

Read it for yourself. Facts point to a global break down of ALL electronics due to the sun having a repeat Solar Storm but this time, WORSE.
All this because the sun will be entering its phase known as Solar Cycle 24

So, think 2012 really is going to be the end? Or is this really what everyone has been crying over?

Then again, without technology, do we really know how to survive?

You're a moron, we're hit by solar storms every single day.
If I remember right then the magnetic thingamajick saves us and do you know how far the sun is from our planet?

Silly bugger.

I really wish people would stop blowing 2012 out of proportion, solar flares happen on a large scale all of the time. Without our atmosphere it would be a very dangerous thing indeed but it keeps us sheltered from the suns solar cycles.

Seriously people, we have "Solar weather stations" to monitor the suns activity, where people are informed of dangers of solar activity to electronics in orbit, power plants, transformers on power lines.

This whole thing is very closely monitored, we know what's coming. And if anything that would damage electronics would come along I'm sure the news who blows shit out of proportion like flu and other nonsense would be going on and on about this. Or at the very least you'd see lead cases going on sale on newegg.com and what not.
