Meh, it is much more likely to happen in 2013 or 2014, they just chose the 2012 date for more impact. Anyway, the situation is easily fixed, simply coat your PC in lead.

2012 (along with most other end of the world stories) were either made up by trolls or paranoid people. The world is going to end when it's going to end. It could be 2 minutes, it could be 2 billion years.
No predictions say that the world will end only that it will change as we know it which many took to the extreme and said the world would end. it could also be something incredibly good like an efficient cure for cancer. however it could also be the total loss of all electronics like this artical statesDemonicVixen said:

2. Some scientists are saying this will be worse, but the prediction is it won't be as strong as one that happened earlier this century.
3. Your definition of technology is... well... pretty fucked up. You know, not only things developed in the last 100 years are tech, right? Feather pens are technology. So are wheels. Even pointy sticks are technology.

Ok, we should be worried but not THAT worried.
1. As many before pointed out before, a lot of the systems of the world are protected from such flares because they were made to be protected from the similar EMP's.
2. The likelyhood of it actually hitting Earth is very slim. We are just a tiny spec that doesn't even get a 100th of the sun's energy, thus most storms are just going to miss us.

Strike 1 correction.... if you read the article rather then reading just my comment underneath "The reason for the concern comes as the sun enters a phase known as Solar Cycle 24." Strike 3 if you read the report, the people FROM NASA spoke to them, plus if you read their website you will find a lot of infomation. The newest is in the link below. Yes, they are not saying how much damage will be done. But there are tonnes of stuff going around all saying the same thing. I dont hear NASA denying it.
