I disagree. Games these days tend to ship incomplete and broken. While a list of prospectively fun games is an interesting read, the fact that they are broken detracts from it to the point you wish it were never released.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - I think this has the potential to be excellent. Human Revolution was a great game. Shame about those boss fights.

Doom - I don't see the point. I'm sure this will be a serviceable FPS, but that's about all. The original Doom blew wholesale mind because it did so much that had never been done before. I just don't feel like there's much boundary to push in terms of FPS gameplay and that's what made the original so special. I'd like to be wrong.

Quantum Break - I just get a really The Order: 1886-ish feeling about this one. I have a hard time getting excited about new IP, though.

Dishonored 2 - I kind of got bored and never made it through the first one. My son will be all over it, though.

I don't know enough about the other games on the list to give an opinion and I'm way too jaded to take the phrase "golden age" seriously.

It's looking like a helluva year for films, however!

I can't think of a single thing coming out this year that interests me.

Maybe Total War: Warhammer but I've grown to hate the Total Wars games as the series has gone on, they seem to just get a little bit worse with each new game.

Part of the problem I think is that so many of the games that I may have taken an interest in are using the first person perspective, and I just can't stand that view in gaming as it feels so restrictive.

It'll probably be for me.
The year that has Dark Souls 3, Final Fantasy XV and Uncharted 4 is pretty great in my book.
I don't think I'll play many other games in 2016 because I'll invest huge ammounts of time in those games.

Well I just discovered how the notifications work on this site. And while I'm not here to start a big mess over pettyness. Generalizing a community and referring to the GT community as a cesspool (in another thread) with low quality threads (on this thread) speaks of ignorance. And we have as a whole, have done nothing to him or anyone else here to warrant such remarks. Not that I'm losing sleep over it 😆😆😆

We are here because the community here on the escapist, is a small tight knit one just like ours. Who desires mature discussions with jokes on the side. And not derailing threads left and right that happens on bigger forums. The layout is also similar giving this site a homey familiar feeling. As Defy Media recently introduced their tech to GT. Other than that, this site could use a bunch of forum goers ready to contribute to the well being of this site. So lets continue on with our discussions. And have our agreements and disagreements like we all normally would.

This doesn't relate to what I posted at all. Would be nice if we were on the same subject at least if you were going to quote my post.

While I do admit ignorance, can you really blame me for it? My first fully aware contact with your community was with B-Cell and yoshi.
Why yes. If you've got your experiences from two people then it's going to be wildly inaccurate to make a judgment about the community as a whole.

Which means 2017 will be the best year since then we'll see the release of patches to make these games great

the number of people giving love to person 5 in this thread pleases me. *nod nod* At the very least, it's the one game launching this year that I can count on to not need a day one patch and DLC to fill in late content.

My disdain for modern release practices aside, I do share a lot of excitement for this year's release slate. Provided half the titles don't get delayed, this could be the most content we've gotten in a single calendar year since the new gen started.

Gotta swing out and pick up the new fire emblem game this payday. Then I'm gonna find a let's play of the new farcry to see if it's something I want. Streetfighter five rushing out the door for Evo is understandable, but there's no excuse for how secretive they were about how little of the game was finished presently. I'll wait until June, when the story mode they're promising is supposed to come out, to pick it up.

After that, it's all a waiting game as I patiently await FFXV (which I'm excited for against my better judgement), Persona 5, and Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final (which may or may not see light outside japan, but I'm an optimist)

Looks like I got a little mixed up, partly because the site is congested on my phone. And I did read everything you wrote. I just had nothing more to add than the first sentence of my post regarding the notifications.

Fair enough. The two people you mention also made profiles on the escapist years ago. B-Cell was previously Diesel & TheGamerElite on a 2011 profile.

But enough of that. We'll agree or disagree on other things regarding religion, politics, games, sports, etc. But this isn't something worth wasting anymore time on.

Last year was pretty extraordinary. Good for RPGs in particular. This year seems to be heavier for strategy fans. A lot will depend on how good/bad Total Warhammer turns out to be.
Which good RPG's came out last year?
Genuinely asking. I wasn't aware that it was a special year for RPG's, with only really Witcher 3 registering on my radar.

Yeah, while Deisel/B-Cell can be quite the rascal, he's never outwardly disrespectful and never gets personal. GamingElite on the other hand stomped all over all sorts of boundaries with reckless abandon.

On topic though, I'd also like to share my excitement over Shadwen's release this year. It's frozenbytes latest game and this time they've gone stealth. The Trine trilogy remains one of the most sublime experiences I've ever had and I'm hot'n'a biscuit to see what they do with the stealth genre.

There are a couple of interesting hooks. One being the the ability to manipulate time and use it in conjunction with physics to solve puzzles. The other is a bit more unique. A little girl somehow starts following you around on your assassination mission, forcing you to decide whether or not to initiate lethal force in front of her or choose more peaceful means of navigating the game play.

The last three games from frozenbyte were personal game of the year contenders for me when they dropped. Hoping this matches up.

Witcher 3 was a seminal classic. Fallout 4 was a sprawling mess, but still 100+ hours of entertaining retread.

For those not soured on the retro revival, the year spat out Pillars of Eternity and Hong Kong: Shadowrun, along with the enhanced editions for Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity.

I've not played it, but I understand Undertale was well received. Likewise, Bloodborne was a cult hit on consoles.

Witcher alone would have been enough to make it a good year for the genre, but there was a lot of breadth to the offerings.

I'm fairly certain that if I absolutely had to I could subsist on nothing but Souls and Elder Scrolls games for the rest of my life.

Ah yes, Wasteland 2 is one game I look forward to playing someday.

It will be a refreshing change from what I've been playing the last year or so.

Deus Ex and a lot of others are sequels that could either stand as credits to their franchise, or be something less positive. Last year had The Witcher, which alone makes it a hard year to beat. To be honest though, I have pretty high hopes for 2016, and a lot of these titles are ones I want to see. Doom seems like they finally got the right idea for the IP on modern tech, and I love that. Dishonored was one of my favorite games in many years, to a sequel is welcome.

I love the Hitman franchise, but I'll wait to buy it as a complete game, and won't be a nickle and dimed. I still don't see it as a "Best year ever" though. A good year, a pretty normal good year.

I just picked it up a few weeks ago, and it is so deep, so rich, and so fun to play.

Well, at least you didn't apologize for lashing out for telling him to use quote or admit that you were wrong. So basically you're a perfect fit with the majority of the community.
