Lionhead Canvases Gamers for Fable Opinions

Which is more important: having a dog, or the ability to marry the town drunk? Lionhead really wants to know.

Lionhead wants to know what you're thinking, or more specifically, what you're thinking about the Fable series. In order to find out what parts of the Fable games people liked, and which they didn't, Lionhead has set up a survey and is entreating people to spend a few minutes filling it in.

The survey asks people to rank thirteen gameplay and story elements from the Fable series in order of importance. The list includes things like being accessible to players of all skill levels, hero customization, player freedom, and the ability to make choices that affect the world. Lionhead even gives people the chance to rate how important having a dog - which has been a staple of the series since Fable 2 - is to them. It also asks which of the Fable games people have played, and which was their favorite.

It's the sort of thing a Fable fan could obsess over for hours, as they try to decide if they think that the humor is more important than the hero morphing effects, or if the lore wins out over the simulation aspects. Hopefully though, it should net Lionhead some useful data that it can put towards making Fable 4 - or whatever the next game ends up being called - the best one yet. If you want to have your say, mosey on over to the Lionhead site [http://lionhead.com/blogs/fable_2_development/archive/2011/02/09/community-call-what-is-your-fable.aspx].

Lionhead, I just have one thing to say...
Give a raise to whoever writes the gravestones. That guy deserves money. Lots of it.

Anyway, neat survey wonder what'll come of it.

Well, thats what they're trying to do with this survey. Its just "make it suck less" is very, very vague and gives them nothing to go on. Since everyone has a different definition of "suck".

I don't think they'd find that particularly helpful. Perhaps if you were a lot more specific.

OT: As for me, I haven't played Fable III, but if I were to give Lionhead any suggestions I'd say focus less on that whole good/evil consequence thing and focus more on developing the actual story.

I agree, the only person who knows what they're doing is the gravestone guy, and I actually like the Fable games too.

The one thing I would like less are those stupid "Walk to other town for this random reason" quests, almost nothing for a reward and they take so damn long.

That's if anyone at Lionhead actually cares...

You have to give credit to Lionhead, they truly do care what people think of their games and they want to make them better. Not every studio is willing to accept fan opinions and even fewer are willing to admit their faults.

I took the survey and I ranked: making the world change through my choices, hero morphing and hero customization as the most important parts of the Fable series IMO.

I ranked: Local and live co-op, and making it accessible as the least important aspects of Fable IMO.

This was actually a really tough list to think about. In the end though, I thought choice and consequence was what defined the Fable series, or what should define it anyway.

I'm not sure if these are meant to be things we'd *like* to see in Fable, or if Lionhead thinks they're in the Fable games already. If it's the latter, these are kind of loaded.

"Emotional connections through drama: Fable games offer an emotional story, with great cast and a compulsive story." No, they don't. The story is totally irrelevant in Fable. There are no compelling characters, meaning no drama. Where can I pick that option?

"Lore: All Fable games are connected through the lore and the (back) story, characters and mysteries. (E.g. Old Kingdom, Guild ...)". None of that has mattered at all since the first game. The only unifying character is Theresa; she only appears for brief moments and her motivations are wholly unexplained. The Old Kingdom has not been mentioned since Lost Chapters. The only thing that carries over is "there are Heroes in Fable." There's no relevant lore at all.

Also, I know it's a ranking system, but still, it's really annoying that you can't give more than one option the same rating. > : (

My only complaint is that they haven't released more then the first game on PC! I want to play it, but I don't really want to play it on the 360. Mainly because I don't want to go out and hunt down a physical copy of it. Would rather to get them through steam or D2D or whatever.

CEO: "Damn it, Molyneux, nobody cares about the dog, the crappy minigames and the farting!"

PM: "Yes they do! They always did! The want the farting and the flexing and the buying of stuff with no ramification to the game!"

CEO: "No, Pete, they don't. Here, have a look at this survey we ran..."

that stupid poll doesnt work, nearly all the time i click on the options it unselect itself. The choices are vague and too few to give any meaningfull data.
So.. its basically useless.

How about a goddamned mana bar? Magic has been game breakingly powerful for TWO games now, it's a supidly obvious problem.

Also, I want to be able to make a friend in the game without having a bunch of homoerotic interactions forced upon me

The problem with the Fable series is that it's possible for them to take these key gameplay/story elements and consider them each separately. A good RPG needs to be a cohesive experience where everything works together. Fable simply doesn't deliver that experience.

Even the mind-numbingly dull resource mining in Mass Effect 2 complements the rest of the game mechanics. Learn from that.

This, the stones in fable 3 were hilarious.

"In loving memory of Arnold. He won't be back."
"JC Tailor. Eaten alive by hamsters."
"You´ve travelled to the future and this is your grave. Just kidding."
"Cpt.Sparrow. Where did it all go wrong?"

If I recall there was also one about wandering into the long grass.
