Bethesda "Disappointed" There's No PS3 Skyrim DLC Yet

Bethesda's PR responded on Twitter to accusations of ignoring Sony's console.

You poor players of Skyrim on the PS3. First you had to deal with the bloated save games that made the game the next DLC Hearthfire [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/115154-Skyrims-PS3-Lag-Gets-A-Patch-This-Month], PS3 owners took to complaining on Twitter and Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda responded saying he's sorry the PS3 DLC hasn't come yet. They have multiple teams working on various projects though, so creating new Hearthfire doesn't impact the PS3 coding.

"We are working on multiple projects, even beyond those two things. The entire team doesn't work on one thing at a time," Hines said.

One PS3 player of Skyrim complained directly to Hines that he was disappointed. "We're disappointed too, but we're keeping at it," Hines responded. The player pressed the issue, asking whether making Hearthfire impacts Dawnguard for the PS3.

"No, they are separate things," Hines said.

I feel bad for PS3 owners who are still playing Skyrim and want some extra content. I'm sure it takes development time and money to convert the code to the PS3 and optimize it, but there are customers who want to buy stuff from you, Bethesda. What's the hold up?

This is one of the reasons for why you don't show favourites when it comes to platform DLC. They should have held back the Xbox 360 and PC versions and released them all at the same time.

Not just to avoid pissing off certain sections of the consumer base, but also to make sure the quality is up to an acceptable standard. As the Xbox version of DawnGuard is incredibly buggy, with any luck the PS3 owners will get to play it without all the little issues, which might make it worth the wait.

Forgive me if I'm not too enthused by Hines' outward apologies and disappointment.
The fact of the matter is, the PS3 was never seen as equal to Bethesda, as demonstrated by the 360 and PC versions of their games being of a higher quality.
Stop trying to look good in front of fans on PS3, because you clearly don't care about that particular demographic.

I imagine the hold up is making sure it is up to some sort of quality standard or there is some weird company politics dealing with the PS3.

Or Bethesda could be a bunch of jerks having a fine laugh over everyone who bought the PS3 version.

Makes no difference to me, I traded my copy in after that whole patch/lag debacle. I might buy a PC copy in a couple of years in whatever GOTY edition is knocking about

Hines is disapointed? Has he got a ps3 too? To be frank Hines me old mucka. For such a patronising statement you should have been kicked in the balls. Then you can sympathise with how a ps3 owner feels.

While the development kit for the PS3 is difficult it shouldn't qualify as an excuse to (as some people see it) "neglect" your customers. The real salt in the wound comes from the fact that Bethesda has announced a second DLC without even any window of release for Dawnguard on the PS3. That is what really stings because it implies a lack of caring to get the DLC on the PS3. The excuse of the development kit being really difficult can only carry so long in a situation like this. The fact that it has been able to carry as long as it has in our current culture of instantaneous satisfaction is remarkable in and of itself. I say excuse of a tough development kit because obviously they can get it working when need be or else Skyrim on PS3 would still be the mess it was upon release. So it is understandable for PS3 owners to be a little upset at this news.

It's been obvious for years that the PS3's memory architecture (256MB of main memory) has been the bane of Bethesda games. Of course, they can't come out and actually SAY that. I'm pretty sure the PS3 issues are technical challenges that there isn't an easy way to solve and therefore they have no idea when or if PS3 DLC will see release.

But come on, Bethesda games on PS3? People should know better by now. The "Fool me twice" threshold was passed years ago. I wouldn't even buy their games on 360. It's PC or bust, because you never know when you'll need to use a console command to un**** your game.

I'm disappointed too.

I'm disappointed in myself for thinking that they will have this out in a timely manner, but now I'm going towards the "I don't give a shit anymore" territory with this. I guess we both lose now, don't we?

He can take that statement, and go pound sand.

I think they are NOT going to release DLC on the PS3.
They just wont say it.

If that is so I bet Microsoft did that.

Yeah i don't see me bothering with any games Bethesda makes on the ps3 anymore, I got it on ps3 because my Xbox got fried and my pc lost a fan and died. So yay me on getting fucked over cause they are kinda shitty with a system they had years to learn to work with and in bed with Microsoft. Though that does not mean i will stop buying it means im going to buy it all during a steam sale so i never again pay full price for bullshit, and it also means that there actions mess up my view of the every other dev team, though they don't really need it thank you ID for making a beautifully boring game.

Sorry if that seemed like a rant lol just my thoughts and hey its better then most boycotts of them, i do want fallout4, though not the MMO TES.

It's worth noting that you're allowed to curse on these forums, just so-long as it isn't too fucking excessive (or blatantly insulting).

But yes, you are right. I don't trust Bethesda on a platform where fans aren't able to release their own fixes. Bethesda might release some great games, but it's beyond apparent that they care little about the actual quality, given how many fixes the fans are able to patch into the game via modding, yet never see any kind of official fix.

More importantly, why haven't they brought the voice features from 360 to PC? It's not like PC users don't have microphones they could use.

P.S. Thanks

I've seen the dlc and as a ps3 owner I say they can keep it.
I just want them to make ps3 games that work at launch.

PR guy saying exactly what consumers want to hear despite company interests? Check.
All is right here.
