Mass Effect 2 "Best Game in the History of BioWare"

This month's Mass Effect 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-2-Xbox-360/dp/B001TORSII/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278968926&sr=1-1] will probably be good, but just how good, you ask? Well, according to producer Adrien Cho, it's easily the best game BioWare has ever made.

You know how people shake their heads and tsk-tsk when a developer releases a game in the incredibly crowded holiday season, because it's not like they're not up against quality competition, right? Yeah, well, 2010 is kind of like that the entire way through (seriously, check the amount of big-name games coming out this year, it's kind of nuts). When asked BioShock 2 [http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=229700], though, Mass Effect 2 producer Adrien Cho all but laughed it off.

The reason? Cho thinks ME2 is the best game the Edmonton-based studio has ever produced, and is confident that the RPG sequel will "blow people out of the water."

"We're so proud of the game that I'm not worried at all," said Cho, "[BioWare CEO] Ray Muzyka was talking to me about this; of all the games we've made so far this was able to encapsulate everything we've been trying to do in games and present it in such a digestible form. Each game we've put out has been great, each game has flaws, whereas this one represents the pinnacle BioWare experience."

"If you're going to play one BioWare game ever in your life, this is the one to try."

BioWare has reportedly fixed quite a few things [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/op-ed/6918-Five-Things-BioWare-Fixed-for-Mass-Effect-2] that gamers didn't like from the original Mass Effect, and Senior Editor Susan Arendt quite liked what she saw up in their frozen Canadian battle fortress. But then again, BioWare is also the company that brought us Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Knights of the Old Republic (and most recently Dragon Age). Those are tough acts to follow.

We'll know when the game comes out this month.

I'm normally wary of these "most awesome game ever" pronouncements. Given that the first Mass Effect was nearly perfect, though, and that they've apparently fixed everything that was wrong with it--well, nearly everything; I think I would have actually preferred an elevator ride with some dialogue from the characters, or one of those news clips, rather than a plain old loading screen...

BioWare has improved thier games steadily with each release, and I don't think I know a single person that *isn't* looking forward to this game.

So long as your companions have more depth than a puddle, I will be happy.

But after seeing their profile videos... I'm a little worried.

I can see this, mass effect 1 was nothing short of epic, and 2 can only make it better from what ive seen.

i doubt it since the original in my opinion was the worst bioware game in the history of bioware.

but im not so cynical that i wont give it a try, but i really hated the first, i had more fun with rogue warrior.

Well it hardly has much competition now does it? Saying it's the best Bioware game would only mean something if Bioware produced very high quality games, but they don't so it doesn't carry any real weight.

When asked CVG if he was concerned about releasing his game around other high-profile titles like Bayonetta, Dark Void and...
Dark Void is a high-profile title?

I doubt it'll beat Baldur's Gate 2.

But I'll be happy if they're close.

Pretty much the same. Except the Rogue Warrior part. There was hardly any action, too much talking and the sidequests were boring and unneeded.

I will buy it, however. If it's like Dragon Age but in the future, I'd be fine with that.

Oh, and this. Baldur's Gate 2 is the best game of all time, in my eyes and it wont beat it.

On the off-chance that it does; I think I'll run around my village with my pants around my ankles singing "I feel pretty".

Well, I still think I won't like it as much as DA:O. The Sci-fi setting doesn't appeal to me as much as the Fantasy setting, but who knows, we'll see.

I'm not really taking this boast at face value, I'll agree with this statement after I've played it. But it's good when the developer has some confidence with the game they'll be releasing soon.

He's saying that Baldur's Gate, KoToR, Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect 1, and Dragon Age all suck ass. Take it as you will.

Agreed, somehow I feel DA:O is a little better than Mass Effect in some regards.

It will be a good game, no doubt. But this coming from a PRODUCER doesn't really mean much. Their job is the money side of things and if he says this is the best game in the history of the world then all he is trying to do is get the game to sell more copies. He wants more money to make sure it makes a large profit to make up the deficit spent making the game so all this means is MORE ADVERTISING (we are all reading about Mass Effect 2 atm).

Ahh, right... I forgot about them. I was actually hoping for some reasonable debate...
