New Assassin's Creed Title Outed By GameStop Art

A new Assassin's Creed that is not Assassin's Creed 3 is coming to stores in the Fall, but nobody knows just what is is yet.

A piece of boxart that made its way to GameStop today has landed in The Escapist's lap and apparently reveals a new Assassin's Creed game in development. It's called Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and is scheduled for Fall 2010.

The game hasn't been officially announced, but it was confirmed to multiple outlets (such as Joystiq [http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/05/assassins-creed-brotherhood-placeholder-art-spotted-at-gamestop/]) that it is real and more information is coming next week. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will include some type of new multiplayer component, as a caption below a screenshot reads: "A never-before seen online multiplayer experience."

The short paragraph on the art says:

Live and breathe as Ezio, now a legendary master assassin, in his struggle against the Templar Order. Lead your own brotherhood of assassins and strike at the heart of the enemy. Rome.

And for the first time, take part in an innovative multiplayer layer allowing you to embody an assassin of your choosing and define their killing style.

Ezio is shown in front of six assassins all dressed uniquely, seemingly of different abilities and classes. Anything said about Brotherhood now is pure speculation, but the multiplayer component where a player can perhaps control such a unique assassin sounds interesting. Judging by the simple title, it's unsure if Brotherhood will be a digital and retail release, a spinoff, fully priced or bargain priced, or what. What I do know is that players will probably complain less about an online game being required to be on the internet for DRM purposes [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/98396-Ubisoft-Online-DRM-Its-Worse-Than-Expected].

Pre-ordering from GameStop will net players an extra multiplayer character, and the boxart also shows that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will be coming to the PC [http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=77863]. Whatever Brotherhood is, I'm thinking someone at GameStop is getting tortured with a pitchfork right now.

If it's anything like Assassin's Creed 2 I'm seriously looking forward to this. I might even have live by the time it comes out, so that's another bonus.

Looks like another romp with Ezio with another contrived tie-back to Altair?... Expanded mini-kingdom sim, ability to co-op assassinate, and capture-the-flag transformed into shank-the-fatty?

Hmm it appears that the assassins behind him are the assassins of old that you gather treasures from in AC2, the ones to unlock Altair's Armour

"Lead your own brotherhood of assassins and strike at the heart of the enemy. Rome."

That brotherhood statement just gave me the random thought of it being like Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. Though if it's like AC2, I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on this one and am still waiting for AC3.

As long as it has single player I'm game, if the only way I can play the story is online co-op, this one won't even be on my radar.

I'm hoping that it's both PVP and PVE. Co-Op and Competition. Assassin's working together to complete a task, which was hinted in the first games by all the low-level assassins forcing missions on you to unlock memories, but also Assassin vs Assassin which was hinted in AC2 with the various factions in Venice all going up against each other.

From the wording though, it sounds something like Mass Effect 2: You have an incredibly powerful Main Character (Ezio/Shepard) that must gather a team of specialists to overcome some sort of malicious entity.

I have a sneaking suspicion this will all take place in the time gap between when Ezio went to Rome and when the final battle of AC2 Occurs (There IS a time jump there, correct?) and Rome is your sandbox.

Who knows? Between this and Megaman Universe, who knows what could happen.

Actually they're not. These are just random characters out of nowhere, mainly to showcase the fact that there is a Brotherhood. If you recall, the Assassin statues you see in-game look way different from these guys. In addition all of these guys are wearing Renaissance-era clothing.

At any rate, I'm cautiously pessimistic about this. Assassin's Creed as a franchise has one of the most original concept I've ever seen and they have had really good games. Luckily this is just a spin-off and not a true sequel, but I am hoping AC3 will still be a single player game.

I'm not really looking forward to a multiplayer Assassin's Creed. It doesn't really seem like the game that multiplayer modes would gel with.

It looks to me like it will be a spin-off. With this multiplayer aspect, I wonder if Ezio will actually be a playable character. It seems to me that they could make you choose one of the existing assassins based on their style, and Ezio will just be a leader.

Well, it may not be AC3, but I will still say: HEEEEELLL YEAAAAAAHH!

*ahem* I'm excited for this. I love the Creed series.

Assassin's Creed 2 wasn't that bad!

I get the feeling that the lynching mob is getting quite tired of game stores "accidently" releasing this stuff.

I recall in Altiar's crypt from AC2, there were statues of 6 other, very different, assassins. I'd personally like a game exploring them.

Dude, know exactly what you're talking about/going through. Get live ASAP it is so worth it.

OT: I loved Screed 2 and can't wait to play as Ezio again and multiplayer could be goos if done properly.

sounds VERY interesting, although considering they don't seem to be calling it AC3 i am thinking there won't be any (or maybe just VERY limited) Desmond, the Animus, or Future stuff involved in this one.
