Epic Fail!!

I would rather the production money be put towards the next full game, not a multiplayer title.

Damn all of you who want great single player games to be multiplayer!!!!

As I calm down, and think this through... I guess it could be ok, this might be a stand alone pvp thing. As long as the next installment of Assassins Creed is not hijacked like bioshock 2 and force an online multiplayer component, I guess I can accept this.
Maybe this is why they're doing it.
They don't want to sully AC3 with a multiplayer component, so they're making a spinoff title dedicated to it what will not take as long to develop and release.

What's this? A second game I find to be worth looking forward to!? WHA!? Looks like Ezio will be here to keep me entertained for a little while while waiting on the Holiday 2010 Fall 2011* release of Portal 2.

*Fixed in accordance with Valve Time [http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time]

I really hope this means that Assassins Creed 3 will have a new main character, I don't feel like Ezio (or his time period) should be the plot of AC3, just from a narrative point of view. Thats just my opinion

I'm really quite disappointed by this. I just want the last game in the trilogy to be released so I can finally play as Desmond not being whiny about everything.

Gamestop does this so often with Assassin's Creed I think it might even be planned.

Every single non-numbered Assassin's Creed (linear-canonical?) game has been "announced" this way.

What I want to see come out of this series which probably will never happen is a MMO. You choose to be an Assassin or a Templar and you take on missions to kill people of the opposite side or to protect someone or something precious to your own cause. With controls similar to that of what the games are at now but with less deadly counters that just do damage and ways to counter counters. I think that would be something cool and as you gain levels you either learn new sword techniques(Templar) or new Assassination techniques.

Desmond not being, well, what he was, would be a nice touch, but I'm kind of glad they (kind of) ditched him for another character. There's this thing with Nolan North, the characters he voiced were almost universally likable, and at its worst, he would have voiced some guard NPC you wouldn't even remember after you'd beaten the game, but Desmond was quite an anomaly. He was a straight up douche uncongenial character. Even his progression as Altair, who at some point saw the light and gave up being a douche entirely disagreeable would seem arbitrary, considering you'd still play *just* Desmond after having played through the last memory block.

TL;DR: Good riddance, Mr. Miles.

Obligatory on-topic paragraph: What's this I'm seeing? Implementing squad based tactics while directing a full-on assault on Rome? Or maybe some Lost Vikings type of shit? I am intrigued.

EDIT: Before I get chewed up and spat out by all those Northies out there, I do not claim complete or even moderately comprehensive knowledge of Nolan North's roles, I could only think of a few memorable and even fewer forgettable ones while I was typing up this shit.

awesome, cuz I played AC2 to death (1000G...wow that's a first for me), and can't wait for something new
multiplayer would be sweet
and ultimately?
continue Ezio's story...seriously
Mr. Miles can take a break, I'll take AC2.5 over AC3 for a long whiles

It seems to me this will be Ubisoft experimenting on multiplayer for Assassin's creed....

Perhaps to decide whether or not to include it in 3.
In any case, sounds very intresting, and I'll certainlly look into it.

And another IP thus beings to show the first symptoms of what is professionally referred to as 'being milked to the last drop', the earliest symptom of which is the abandonment of linear numbering (c.f. Resident Evil, GTA, just about anything produced by EA).

Well, FINALLY someone decided to take advantage of the HUGE multiplayer potential these games have. And a good idea to ensure sales too, considering the huge multiplayer driven market out there.

Looks like another romp with Ezio with another contrived tie-back to Altair?... Expanded mini-kingdom sim, ability to co-op assassinate, and capture-the-flag transformed into shank-the-fatty?
Isn't that what we all want?

Nice. Just finished off AC2 last week. So with it being fresh in my mind is making this seem very appealing. Though by the autumn I'd probably not care so much.

Somehow I doubt publishers are really upset about these kind of leaks. "Oh no, people will hear of our game and be interested enough to talk about it! This is a disaster!" It's not as though box art provides spoilers.
