Yeah think I'll pass on this if it ever gets to the UK. 3D is enough, and even that I can take or leave.

But....................wouldn't the fog and water on the glasses make actually viewing the movie that little bit more difficult and/or irritating?

I thought this was going to be a joke article about 3D movie theaters adding the fourth dimension of time to their viewing, perhaps allowing customers to rewind and rewatch scenes even as the rest watch on in a straight line, or perhaps skip ahead, or perhaps even watch scenes from movies that have not yet been written, let alone filmed. But, no, it's the old immersive stuff that American theater managers have been experimenting with since the 1950s, from seat mounted shock points and bass speakers to Smell-o-Vision cards. I guess anything that serves to distract the audience from how completely their pockets are being picked to pay for the dreck being flushed out of the screen in front of them these days is a good thing for the industry, eh?

I hated those things when I accidentally went to them in theme parks, so I will refuse to go to any theater that installs this stuff. Why can't we just go to the movies and watch them anymore? 3D is on it's way out again, the high frame rate didn't catch on, so what makes them think that people want their seats to buzz, or get sprayed with water, or any other awful thing they decide to add?

Checks calender... 28th of june? that can't be right, tell me this is a wind up? This is actually a thing? It sounds fucking terrible even worse than 3D.

I don't see this taking off too well. The theatre I go to has one screen with a few rows of seats for "D-Box" tickets.
D-Box being this totally immersive experience for 3D films that essentially just tilts the seat a bit and vibrates your butt during wizz bang action flicks.

Even in a packed house I've never seen anyone shell out the dough for those seats.

I can't picture anyone spending extra money to have nasty theatre water sprayed in their faces or, at worst, suffer a violent sickness when the theatre decides that what would go wonderfully with a gutfull of popcorn and theatre food is a strong whiff of whatever ghastly miasma they think will immerse the viewer in the experience.

Well, the "smell" thing can only be an improvement on the usual theater olfactory experience- spilled soda, stale popcorn, and the guy directly in front of you who scarfed down an entire Taco Bell 12-pack half an hour ago.

Yeah, they will. They'll know exactly what's coming. And where. And how much.

4D version of the new TMNT? Including olfactory gimmicks? ... That's a horrible idea. The Turtles live in a sewer.

Semantics incoming: THIS IS NOT 4D. "Fog" is not an axis you have a position on. A 4D theater would be one where you could either travel through time to see movies (4th axis time) in the past or one that transports you to an alternate reality (similar to "sheets" as they're shown when dealing with arrays)

In another 5 years we hopefully will be able to travel between alternate universes. I went to two of these twice when I was a kid. Don't remember what I thought of it back then. But I sure as hell wont go to any movie that has this crap. I can live with those stupid glasses but this no.

If the 4D version of porn isn't having physical tits in my face, then I'm not at all interested.

OT: Stupid quote aside, this is a pretty dumb idea, and I still wasn't on board with basic 3D on its own. This won't find a big market in the US. If it does, god help us all.

beside watching "the fog" and maybe jurassic parc, when the ability to shoot fog in the movie theatre would actually immerse you...

maybe the 4d version of dawn of apes will throw feces at you ?

You know what surprises me the most about this news? That I was informed that this was not a thing in the US. 4D showings have been here for some time now (at ridiculous prices) that I'm just astonished this hadn't made into the US market. It's a gimmick, a rather expensive gimmick at that, but if it can gather so much audience in my country with our miserable salaries it will be a sure hit north of the border.

I don't have any problem with being engaged by a "boring" standard movie screening, it's actually quite easy to be sucked in if the movie is well made. I can't see how getting water in your face is going to enhance it in any way, seems more like a desperate attempt to conceal that a lot of big movies are quite flawed at the moment. Just throw water and smoke in there, then the audience won't notice that Hollywood has run out of ideas :p.

But they will all know who's coming. *hint: it typically isn't the female* Also, if the porn industry does implement this tech, then they're gonna need Oozinator-esque devices:
