If Only All Copyright Infringement Could Be So Delicious
An ad campaign for tasty-looking Russian snack food revolves around thinly-veiled pastiches of Mario, Chuck Norris, Darth Vader and the Tetris blocks beating the snot out of each other.
Right off the bat, I have to say this: I've never heard of the snacks being advertised in this Red Medusa [http://www.tvigle.ru/category/comedy/versus?video=437871]. As near as I can tell, they're called "Xpyc Team" snacks (though given that the name is probably in Cyrillic letters your guess is as good as mine), and they seem to be some sort of crisped french fries from the available pictures.
But now, I really want to try some. This campaign is absolutely brilliant: It features obvious parodies of famous fictional (and not-so-fictional) characters beating the hell out of each other. What does this have to do with french fries? I have no idea! It's still awesome!
Above, you can see Mario and Pac-Man battling over a mushroom, but some of the other highlights include on the official site [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DEd4IFbJYk].
I gotta be honest, this makes me want to run out and buy some of these Xpyc Team fries. The animation is funny, the vocal sound effects are charming, and the entire thing is simply hilarious. I'm not sure about what the possible legal ramifications would be, if at all - this is pretty clearly a parody of all involved. Actually, the whole thing vaguely reminds me of the (also Russian) Wrath of the Lich King-inspired deodorant commercial [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/97613-Russian-TV-Ad-Copies-WoW-Lich-King-Cinematic] from a few months back.
Eh, even if it is copyright infringement, it's downright hilarious. I say we let it stay.
