Exposed to inappropriate content? Hands up who was looking for and at "Inappropriate content" in their teenage years. \\(^_^)
But... the disclaimers say you have to be 18 or older! You broke the law of the internet!
you filthy, filthy bast- okay, I did it too. Don't tell anyone!

I guess these 60% are only the ones who were ashamed to confess they looked at it intentionally. Or religious zealots. Or strange, strange persons.
Exactly what law do you break if you look at porn under age?

Sure its not maybe 90%?
All i ever hear is the breathing into the mic/high pitched voice of an 11 year old BOY! shortly followed by both teams trying to kill him and shouting "Shut up and hit puberty"

Thats the first thing I did. I thought thats what the internet was for. I have fond memories of showing my father the hilarity that was talking dirty to random starngers over the internet. We're a weird family.

Also, I'm surprised the percentage is so low. Lets remember that many children will not admit to looking up naughty stuff online out of fear of getting in trouble, no matter how well thw researchers try to covnince them that everything is anonymous.

or propositioned to meet up with someone they met online.
Having met with numerous people I've met online, not just from this site, I can say that this being "a bad experience" is only applicable for the minority. The real question is how the child felt about it, not to mention other factors such as the purpose of the meeting, how well the child knew the person online and whether the proposition involved only the child, unsupervised.

I'm a child so I still count.

Wonderful - Another multimillion dollar study to aid corporations in Stating The Obvious, then never speaking of it again.

90% of this 60% will more than likely just be people who've been insulted while playing a game online.

Oh boo-hoo. Cry me a river.
If it doesn't happen on the internet, it's gonna happen when they come across an asshole in rl.

The internet can be a pretty weird place for an adult, so imagine what it's like if you're a kid.
So? Online is not the only place kids can get a bad experience. Life is not all milk and honey you know. Online is the least of their problems. At least they are physically safe online.

Half the kids online are assholes online because they would get the crap beaten out of them(literally and figuratively) if they did in RL.
And when they get out matched they get sad.
gettign beaten in a game maybe half or more of that 60%

Hate to be rather frank here, but it's the internet. No one is safe, when you give someone complete anonymousness, 9 out of 10 people are going to abuse it. What the hell are children doing on the internet unsupervised anyway? Sure, I can see teenagers, but are you going to let your 8 year old kid open up a portal, that every person in the world can enter at any time?

That's basically what the internet is. Anyone can open up a conversation with anyone, at any time. Email, IM, chatrooms, the possibilities for pedophiles to get at your kids are endless. And the internet doesn't work like real life. You can't just say "Don't get in a stranger's car" and think your job is done. Parents really need to shape the fuck up, but that is a rant for another time, perhaps for it's own thread.

My 2 cents.

It's a shame to since the internet is a good way to loose your faith in humanity that children really REALLY shouldn't experience at their age...

...that's best saved for a mid-life crisis, not starting-life.

Solution?
Remove all children from the internet.
some of the problem solved.
I myself wasn't exposed to the internet until i was 13, and then i stuck with my nerdy friends from school playing Runescape until we upgraded to WoW. And since our computer was in the living room i was never alone with it(mom and dad contemplated sending me to a psychiatrist after the maniacal laughter i got from sniping in TF2) so if we can't get kids off the internet, remove the computer from the kids bedroom, put K9 web block so they can't browse when you aren't there(make the PW 1111 to outsmart them)and make sure they don't know how to clear history.
If some parenting took place it wouldn't be that bad, but NOOO pawn your kids off on the poor Online community you stupid jerks.
