Get Deus Ex for a Dollar at Games for Windows Marketplace

Games for Windows Marketplace has unveiled its latest and possibly greatest Daily Deal: The Deus Ex Game of the Year edition for only 99 cents.

There's really not much more to say about this. It's Deus Ex for a buck. And that should be enough, really, because there are two kinds of people in the world: those who have played Deus Ex and know what a screamingly good deal this is, and those who have not and are on the cusp of stumbling into one of the most mind-shatteringly great deals of their videogaming lives.

Deus Ex is ten years old and, truth be told, it was already looking past its prime when it was new. Character animations are stiff, facial animations are essentially non-existent and voice acting ranges from dodgy to outright awful. It doesn't matter. I'm not sure what sort of dark magic Ion Storm wove to create this game but it's an amazing blend of action, stealth, comedy and pathos, all wrapped up in a multi-layer conspiracy theory that somehow, impossibly, comes together as one of the finest videogames ever put to disc. It's like putting a dozen monkeys into a room with a dozen typewriters and then coming back from lunch to discover they've banged out the works of Shakespeare.

Another point about this that I think is worth a mention is the fact that in spite of a just too good to ignore [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105309-Games-for-Windows-Marketplace-Relaunches].

What Microsoft will do with that attention is the big question. The occasional great deal on old classics won't be enough to make Games for Windows a legitimate alternative to gamesforwindows.com [http://store.steampowered.com]!

If I didn't have Deus Ex already, I'd probably still pass.

After trying to get AoE III on my computer I just gave up. No game is worth that amount of hassle.

Still a good deal though, and if your one of the lucky people that GFWL actually works for you should totally buy it.

I bought it (and the sequel, though that doesn't count) for five bucks during the recent Steam sale... I think that I still would have gotten it off Steam if I had heard about this at the same time. Games For Windows is famous for being *incredibly* user-hostile.

Speaking of which, didn't they do this a few days ago with Ages of Empire 3 (I think that was the one) and it was so bad that it prompted Shamus Young to go on a rant about the experience?

I can't even be bothered to check because if sure (just like the last awesome deal) that I won't be able to buy it in Australia... Wht is it going to cost more money to send the fucking data over here...

Already got it, which is good since I'm not sure I could bear to use GFWL Market place again.

If there's a gem covered in poop, would you touch it?
Yep. Pick it up, hold it next to my heart, kiss it, whatever. IT'S STILL A GEM. Besides, you can still wash it off.

Also, this gem is not covered in poop. That would be GFWL. This is GFW, which is like acquiring said gem from a man who thinks he's Jesus. Buy it, then pretend he doesn't exist, and he'll go away.

No matter WHAT this gem was covered in, I'd still buy it, tortured metaphor and all.

So I have to pay a 75p and install the GFW client on my computer?

No thanks, I'd rather pay £5.99 for it on Steam, a small price to pay to avoid Games For Windows.

I spent 2 hours trying to buy Age of Empires 3.

2 hours. So I could throw my money at microsoft. With deals like this, you're not paying for the game. You're paying by dealing with the shit

also.

If the marketplace website still isn't available in your region, the client will work.

Of course. People who have never used it are going to talk shit about it.

Considering how much trouble 1 person had to make a 10 cent game work... haha... no thank you, I'd hate to see the kind of trouble a $1 game would bring. My computer would be out of commission for a week.
Open the client and click view keys? Unless you are talking about the keys running out, which has happened and did on Steam one week before, it wasn't any trouble at all.

It is on Games for Windows Marketplace though which is a horrible place to buy things. I think I might wait for it be on the Xmas sale on Steam. Damn thing is so bad it isn't even in my region.

Theoretically, you don't need to work your way through the awful (read: worst in the world) sign up more than once. Buying AoEIII took me forty seconds (plus two days for a key... oh well).
