Exactly! That's why we should guillotine them, charge people to see (victims families get in free), and reduce taxes slightly (for money earned and money saved on prison)!

Laws aren't a repellent, neither is twiddling your thumbs for 10 years. Death is a bigger consequence.

NOTE: I live in Canada so we don't execute people, I don't know how the U.S.'s system works but I know they do executions. I don't need to be educated too much either because I don't care enough.

I really really hope this doesnt turn into a gun control topic.....oh wait, too late. Well as previously stated, stricter laws regarding guns won't stop illegal guns from getting into criminal's hands.

My condolences to the family, friends, and acquaintances of all those who have been killed in the last few weeks. Whatever that's worth. It's tragic when these sorts of things happen, but it's not uncommon.

They had been living there for six months and if they had enough money to go to Disneyland they had enough money to move out of a neighborhood that their seven year old daughter knew was too dangerous. My family never had enough money for a trip to Disneyland but there are no gangs where I live. I can't really have much sympathy for parents who don't give the safety and welfare of their children the highest priority.

Capcha: Many happy returns
Now THAT's insensitive
Sorry to say it, but this man speaks the truth.

Strain theory dude, how can you move to a better place when you don't have the economic means too? Unless one chooses to break law and/or opts for a lower standard of living.

Though you're right to an extent. If I wanted a house in this country for a couple thousand dollars I could. It would be in the poorest part of Detroit, but I certainly could do it.
See above post. Like I said, Chicago is expensive. There are cheaper less shitty places to get to, and these people probably could have moved. It's not like Detroit where it's been crap for years and no one cares, so everything is cheap. Chicago's a relatively nice place that just so happens to have roving bands of killers.
Still. One has to rent a u-haul truck, get cardboard boxes, tape, buy/rent a new location (while still paying for the current one), not to mention uprooting their location could very well be at the cost of a steady job... which in this economy is a commodity.

You're right to an extent but theres quite a bit of factors in play in making that choice. It's not quite as easy of a choice to make as... say, do I want to take a shower or a bath today? ya know?

That is so many levels of apathy for a human life, it's not even funny. A little girl died and you're just cracking jokes about it.

I may be a fan of edgy comedy but that was just wrong.

Anyways, my prayers will go out to the girl and her family.
Awe, come on, don't be so sour. There are better issues to make a stand on. Stop being such a child about all of this. ;D

Darn. I was going to make some crack about her prices being too high.
But it had to be a stray bullet.

Oh well. I'll take my comedy gold elsewhere.

To be honest if I was shot and died horribly in some reasonless accident like this I'd much rather have people cracking jokes. I'd feel horrible if all my short life amounted to was a reason for lots of people to sigh and feel depressed for a brief moment before they forgot about it a few hours later.

While true, it would have been harder to obtain them.
Making more laws for them to break would have made it harder? lolwut

Know what they did after a school shooting in the U.S.? Made it illegal to carry guns on school property. Know what happened? Fuck all. Know why? People who want to kill people don't give a shit how many laws they are breaking. Go ahead, try your best to make it almost impossible to get a gun. The only ones affected will be the law abiding citizens--the ones not breaking the law in the first place.

Schools:
  • Illegal to carry guns
    Metal Detectors
    Security patting people down

Number of fatalities from guns - a lot.

Gun conventions:
  • Legal to carry guns
    Lots of guns
    Lots of people buying guns

Number of fatalities from guns - none.

Laws don't stop people from killing each other. You can make all the laws in the world and not a single thing will change. You need to change the culture and treat poverty if you want gun related killings to slow.

As an aside: the largest school massacre in U.S. history was carried out with a homemade bomb.
No one being killed at gun shows isn't true.

This is a ghastly thread.
Does that really count? The poster you quoted was about people shooting other people. That little boy clearly shot himself.

And on a side note, what the fuck is wrong with that DA? Why go after the gun show organizer when it was clear if anyone should be on trial it should be the person that loaded that Uzi and left it unattended?

Also, who the fuck was watching that kid?

^ this. I love my guns, but if there is one thing you don't do, it's give an 8 year old an uzi. Seriously, I wouldnt trust anyone but my closest friends with a machine/submachine gun within 2 miles of me, let alone a little kid who probably doesnt have the strength to control the recoil.

The biggest problem with the U.S. in regard to guns is their attitude. Firearms are an extremely deadly weapon, built primarily for destruction. My dad owns a few rifles (he hunts maybe once a year, but mostly target shoots) and he treats them with the respect they deserve. For starters, no rifle ever leaves the locked, bolted to the concrete safe unless it's in his own hands and he's using it or cleaning it. Guns are never kept loaded and are checked and double checked before and after any handling--still, they are always regarded as loaded, because mistakes happen. Ammunition is kept in a separate, locked safe, with a different key. He is the only person in the world that knows where the keys are--not even my mother knows.

Of course not all U.S. citizens are gun toting idiots and anyone claiming they are needs a lesson in vocal minorities, but I do believe far too many Americans possess a lax attitude towards firearms. They aren't toys and they will kill someone. The number of times people have been killed because some dickhead let a loaded handgun on the table or something... Common-fucking-sense.

Am I racist(prejudiced?) for having immediately guessed that this must have happened in America? (that or some third world country).

If I had ever been wrong after making such an assumption it would be easier to put it down to anti-american prejudice so many people fall pray to, but... well, it always ends up being the correct guess, so now I'm not sure :X

It sucks, but this isn't news, not really, this shit happens everyday.
She should have carried a gun, it would have saved her life.

This sounds like it came right out of a parent's nightmare... One day everything's going so smoothly, the family planning to attend Disney World which is almost every 7 year old's dream come true, and as they wait, the daughter sells lemonade.

Then out of the blue, violence erupts with a shootout and she gets killed on the spot in cold blood. My body trembles to the thought of me having to see someone I care or know die in front of me. It's already a devastation when you hear about someone you know/loving, but to see it for oneself... that, is just horribly awful. My sympathy goes to the family and especially the mother of that girl.
Frappe pretty much covered it.

What a really crap situation.

I know it's not real news but I still thought it was worth mentioning. Sure, people get shot every day but not like that.
What, you mean casualities caught on the cross fire?

That happens ALL THE TIME.

The real kicker is... she was about to go to DISNEY WORLD. That's just fucking EVIL, death is too merciful for the person or persons who killed her before she ever got to go to the theme park I could only WISH I could have gone to.

Sympathy for the girl and her bereaved family, none at all for the USA. They are happy and adamant to continue allowing guns to be privately owned, this is the inevitable result. Americans have no right to bemoan both the tragic loss of a child's life and their personal, inalienable right to own guns.

One is the consequence of the other so you make your bed and lie in it.

Well that's a shame. But it makes it easier to cope with knowing it was an accident and not something more.. extreme? Or personal? There would be other victims from this too, though. The ones who did it. It was an accident, with no intention of killing a 7 year old, so both (or more?) of those guys are probably going to live with this guilt for the rest of their lives. Damn.
