Laws aren't a repellent, neither is twiddling your thumbs for 10 years. Death is a bigger consequence.
NOTE: I live in Canada so we don't execute people, I don't know how the U.S.'s system works but I know they do executions. I don't need to be educated too much either because I don't care enough.
