There is definitely some shit from the 90s we've done well to forget.

However, a lot of what I was listening to in the 90s has held up, and I think it will in the years to come. On the whole, mainstream music in the 90s was better, at least as far as I'm concerned. Tards! At The Disco or Coldplay or Deathcab for Cutie or any one of a number of other acts from this decade probably have less staying power than an 18 year old virgin.
This does not mean, of course, that there is a dearth of music from this decade. It just gets lost in the white noise getting pumped at you. Frankly, Iron & Wine or Audioslave or Velvet Revolver have done some good stuff (although there is a lot of 80s and 90s heritage in there, so maybe that's why I like them) this decade, as have Wolfmother. Although, looking through my music collection on my computer, there really isn't much that started this decade.
Emo shit can piss right off, though. Whiny little fuckers. Dashboard Confessional can fuck right off. Look for The Emo Song on YouTube. That about sums it up.
I doubt I'm going to convince anyone to change their mind about this, and I'm not going to worry about it. I'll take what's good and do my best to forget about the bad.
And just a side note about the 90s... that decade gave us Britney. So not everything was good about it.
