Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition Hits 360 and PC in April

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition is coming to the Xbox 360 [and PC!] in April.

We've known about the forthcoming Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 for awhile [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/110601-The-Witcher-2-Coming-to-Xbox-360-EA-Comes-to-GOG], and now we finally have a release date: April 17 is the day that Xbox 360 owners finally get to discover for themselves what PC RPG fans are so wound up about. To mark the event, the game's new, freakishly-awesome and wickedly violent intro video has been turned loose as a preview of what's in store.

"The intro not only shows a very important event in the Witcher's universe [the assassination of King Demavend] but also it is a real piece of art," said CD Projekt Red chief Adam Badowski. "I think people who haven't played the game should enjoy it as much as our fans. The creators of the intro - Platige Image - are real artists and you should be prepared for a jaw dropping experience."

The Enhanced Edition will feature other new cinematics created for the game as well as numerous changes that will take advantage of the platform's different strengths. "This is a full adaptation of The Witcher 2 for a console. We have changed the game's controls and its menus to reflect the differences between the platforms, and we've made extensive modifications to the RED engine to make sure that the graphics are a jaw-dropping experience for Xbox 360 players," Badowski said. "We're proud of the fact that this is one of the best-looking games ever released on the Xbox 360, while also being one of the most complex RPG's ever brought to console gamers."

April 17 is also of interest to PC Witcher fans because the same day that the 360 version of the game launches, an Enhanced Edition update for the PC will also be released, and it will be free. Free! Along with the new cinematics, the Enhanced Edition will add new quests, characters and locations, adding up to four hours of additional gameplay over and above the original game. Is it any wonder that I love these guys?

The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition for the Xbox 360 will be available in two versions, the standard release and the "Dark Edition," which is almost as cool as the original Collector's Edition release for the PC. A Dark Edition reveal trailer is available on buy.thewitcher.com [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBAVgLQmMD8].

Free you say?

I like free. Hooray!!

Glad to see this game is coming to the 360. Everyone should be able to play it. Now all that's left is to bring it to the PS3. Which I hope they do because, as I said, everyone should be able to play it.

You didn't mention that they are refining the targeting system. That's what has me most interested. It was the only thing that bothered me with the game.

Holy shit, that trailer was sexy as hell.

I may have to pick this game up. I've heard nothing but good things about Witcher 2.

CD Projeckt Red are awesome, who doesn't like free stuff?

I will be buying the Xbox version of this game just because they deserve the money, but I will continue to play the PC one.

Just a quick question. Does Witcher 2 follow on from the original? Or is it a stand alone title?

The game picks up a month after the assassination attempt on King Foltest at the end of The Witcher. It plays into the story, but you might be surprised by the reason.

You will. The specifics might evade you thanks to the barrage of hard-to-remember names they throw at you, but the story isn't all that complicated.
Jolly good.

Think I'll preorder now...

I couldn't stop watching that intro, one of my favorite intros of all time along with one of my favorite games/RPGs of all time. It is a work of art, and shows how threatening the King Slayer is, and highlighting the abilities and combat prowess of a Witcher.

I'm tempted to buy the Dark Edition just for that sexy art book and Wolf Medallion. I'd wear that thing always. Well that, and just to further support these guys, fucking can't wait for what will most likely be Witcher 3.0 patch. This will make for an awesome 3rd (I'm just gonna abandon my current 3rd playthrough as it is now) and 4th playthrough.

While it picks up and references the original game, it can be played and enjoyed mostly without playing the first. Witcher 1 was more of a "gateway" game that introduced us to Geralt and hist world, its own story which was more on a personal level than a grand political scale. The ending of W1 segues into W2, but for the most part, 2's events are mostly their own.

Well, this looks grand. I'm looking forward to seeing it come out.

I hope it's not too hard to understand. I didn't ever play the first one.

Cool!

Man do I hope I don't have to play the original to understand the plot, the reason I'm excited for the 360 release is because my computer is crap!

I'm tempted to pick up the Dark Edition even though I don't have a 360. I'm afraid the PC collector's edition has slipped through my grasp at this point.

Not exactly. The opening might be a little confusing, as a lot of these characters are holdovers from the first game. However, once the prologue ends, and the game begins in earnest, your primary objective becomes quite clear and easier to follow.

Also, wow on the Dark Edition. That looks like it'd be epic to own. I want to learn the Cyrillic Alphabet so I can understand the map that came with my older edition.

Free upgrade to enhanced edition, very nice. At least they're consistent in they're release of enhanced edition in both adding new content to the game and giving it as a free patch to those who already own it.
